Gavin Degraw's CD Chariot is the type of CD that you can listen to over and over again. Its fusion of different genres allows this CD to appeal to a wide range of audiences and demographics. The songs tell a story of love and love lost and gives you the feeling that you are actually walking in his shoes. Although the beats are great, Gavin's voice and writing ability are the selling points for this CD. This is evident when you listen to the stripped version which is an acoustic set of all his songs. This added CD alone is enough reason to purchase this CD.

Pick this up not knowing it was a two disc special, just wanted to see what it was all about. Fell in love instantly. Gavin DeGraw is the new Van Morisson! . . sensitive, passionate, lyrical. He doesn't possess the typical pop idol voice or much less a crooner's voice, what he has is a lot more. Every emotion, every nuances of each lyric is riding on his unabashingly strong vocals, raw with feelings worn on his sleeve. Makes a girl weak in the knees! Chariot/Stripped is his defining album wether he becames more famous or just a one CD wonder. The second CD is like icing because it showed the process of coming up with the finished product. It was a nice bonus, highly recommend you listen to this one also. Each song so masterfully crafted, so poetically written, most are about longings, falling in and out of love but my favorite is "Over rated." about how after meeting that special someone, everything else seems so ordinary. So for all of you who are in love, pre-falling in love, post break-up, or in the process of breaking up, this one's for you, come on, it's okay to be sensitive, it's okay to sing along, just make sure you're in your car, alone, commuting from work, with the windows closed.

I bought this CD for the song "Chariot", which I heard every day at work. I love that song, but I had to ask a co-worker who sang it! When the CD arrived, I couldn't wait to play it. I was delighted to discover that the whole CD is excellent, and Gavin DeGraw is no "one hit wonder". The entire work is great listening. The bonus CD is very good too, although I prefer the original recording, personally.

Follow Through - 4.25 stars. I love this song. It's so innocent.
Chariot - 4.5 stars. We've all heard this one a million times. I think it's a stronger song than Follow Through but they're both good.
Just Friends - 3.5 stars. This song is weaker than the 2 previous tracks. It has alright lyrics though.
(Nice to Meet You) Anyway - 3.75 stars. Stronger than Just Friends, weaker than Follow Through. It makes for a decent song though.
Chemical Party - 3.5 stars. This is a good song. It speaks about a girl who has fun at a party and enjoys everyone but Gavin. He's drunk and she is high...too high to realize him.
Belief - 5 stars. This song is kind of weird. I don't really know much about it besides some person defended and captured Gavin's heart...But the lyrics: "When you came to my defense/With a knife/In the shape of your mouth/In the form of your body..." doesn't make too much sense to me. I do like the ending though.
Crush - 4 stars. Thank you, Gavin. You delivered another strong track. I love the composition of this song. Once again, good job!
I Don't Want to Be - 4.25 stars. Gavin's first single. It's a great one at that. Gives off a good message.
Meaning - 3 stars. This song doesn't really do much for me...it's skip-able.
More Than Anyone - 3.25 stars. This song is a step up from Meaning but that's not saying much. It really drags on...
Over-rated - 4 stars. This song gets a higher score than some because I really like the lyrics.
The average is 4.20454545454545.

P.S. didn't really liked the actual stripped CD with the bonus remake track because the arrangements changed, and became less memorable. I haven't listened to it since.

Melodies that inspire the soul... 2006-07-11
Gavin DeGraw has created a masterful blend of introspective and inventive music that I cannot get enough of. I personally enjoyed the "Stripped" album more than the studio version.
The heart of this album is evident all over every song. Lyrically, it speaks to me and so many others in a real way. Sure, it may have it's cheesy moments, but who doesn't?
"I Don't Want To Be" was so explosive when it was re-introduced to the world after One Tree Hill, that it just blew me away.
My favorite song in the album is "Over-Rated". It has beauty and heart. Truthfull, I listened to "Chariot" for 2 months straight.
Did I mention that I am a 24 year-old black kid who is in love with rock? Must have forgot.
But that is not important, what's important is that Gavin rocks!!!

Gavin DeGraw has an amazing voice. I'll start with that. He is incredibly talented, both as a singer and a songwriter. The only reason I give this cd four stars and not five is because it's not super memorable. I listen to a lot of music and whenever I stumble upon this cd, I'm pleasantly suprised. He has an incredible style that puts his breathtaking vocals against dramatic forceful melodies. A good number of his songs have the same relaxing rhythm. Overall this cd is great, I would reccommend buying it if you like anything along the lines of....hmm comparisons are hard, buy it and find out. (Also, I would definitely reccommend this stripped version for the extra couple of bucks)
Chariot Stripped will make you a fan! 2008-04-02
I became a fan of Gavin's after I heard him sing Chariot on Leno, it was hearing his live performance that sparked my curiosity and kept me interested as a fan. That is what I love about Chariot Stripped.....truely showcases Gavin's range and talent!

Great CD. I purchased this CD because I love the popular tracks on it (Follow through...), after listening to it a few times I found that even the other songs, that were not as popular, are extraordinary!

This CD was even better than I expected. I had already heard that it was a great CD, from friends. Gavin is an exceptional songwriter, and vocalist. Hope to see more from him. Every song is inspired, well-written, and well done. The "stripped" versions give a glimpse of what to expect from a live show.
