Built inside a durable metal cabinet housing, this monitor includes eight DIN/BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman, RF-type) composite video inputs, and eight RCA audio inputs. Also included are eight alarm inputs with one alarm output for connecting external alarm devices. The SG21CD7481UQ-A80 monitor features on-screen display of date/time/camera, and a stand-by switch that allows recording to occur while monitor is off. Multi-voltage compatible, the SG21CD7481UQ-A80's monitor runs on 90 to 250-volts of power, achieves an high horizontal resolution of 480 TVL (TV lines) at up to 30 fps (frames-per-second), and has an operating temperature of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius.

The camera that comes with the SG21CD7481UQ-A80 utilizes a 0.25-inch color CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensor with a 3.6mm fixed lens. Powered from the monitor via the connecting cable, this camera achieves a horizontal resolution of 330 TVL and can receive a usable picture at a minimum illumination level of 0.5 Lux for very low-light condition viewing. Constructed of a durable white ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, this unit features an automatic electronic shutter with speeds ranging from 1/60 to 1/100,000 of a second, and a PIR (passive InfraRed) motion sensor that alerts you of camera activity. The SG21CD7481UQ-A80's camera comes with its own 63-foot connection cable allowing you to install it virtually anywhere, and can operate in temperatures ranging from -20 to 50 degrees Celsius.

Technical Features:

Designed primarily for indoor use, the Lorex SG21CD7481UQ-A80 offers you everything you need in a security surveillance system. Though only one camera is included, the SG21CD7481UQ-A80 allows up to eight cameras to be controlled, viewed, and recorded all by a single unit. While the monitor for this unit is an eight-channel system, the DVR is only a four-channel system. Users should note that the CCD image sensor in the camera may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

What's in the Box
Color quad monitor (built-in DVD), camera, cable, camera bracket, hard disk drive, 2 keys for cartridge, Internet security software, and owner's manual.

Review: ... "Click! The No Nonsense Guide to Digital Cameras" is misnamed. It covers a lot more than just cameras. In a couple of hundred pages, it includes using a scanner and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to rescue faded, damaged family photos, the basic guidelines to good picture taking, how to use Elements 2 to improve your digital photos, and how to print and preserve your pictures for the ages. White, the author of the bestseller "How Computers Work," knows how to pack a lot of helpful, understandable information in a brief no nonsense book.

Review: "This Camera is one of the best in its price range. It takes beautiful clear pictures and can be used right out of the box, but its worth learning all its features. The included memory holds about 20-25 pictures so I upgraded to 128mb. I reccomend getting a 128mb card and the Sony camera case. Not only is this one of the best cameras in its class it includes decent software and rechargeable batteries that are at least a 20$ value.
HIGHLY reccomend over canon, kodak, and fuji. One more thing this camera has CARL Zeiss lens (if you dont know, great lens) all the competetors have generic lens."

From the Back Cover The megapixel hype
The fact is a camera’s megapixel rating is only a measure of how many pixels (photosensitive sites) an image sensor has…. An image sensor is simply one component of an entire system that produces a digital photograph… So resist buying into the megapixel hype when you’re choosing a digital camera. From Chapter 1
