Cartridge Failed! 2008-09-06
Bought this printer about year and a half ago. Was working fine, I was happy with the purchase. Until....Replacing color cartridge. Upon removing the old color cartridge I noticed in the cradle there was thin metal clip/spring that didn't look quite right. Mind you, this was on removing the empty. No abuse, no forcing a new color cartridge. The little thin plastic clip that held in the metal clip/spring in place must have broken during printing with the old color cartridge. I never found it. Looking at the black cartridge cradle. It's thin plastic clip is approximately 2 millimeters thick. Obviously not thick enough to hold the limited stress put on it by the metal clip/spring. Clearly a design flaw as you can gather from the number of other reviewers with exactly the same problem. I've contacted HP and they agreed to escalate the issue. I'm expecting, or hoping, to receive a call from them within the next couple of days. Not sure of the response I'll get. But if a handful of customer took the time to write here. There must be a significantly greater amount that just gave up. Stay away from this printer, it seems to last just long enough to pass warranty. Now I'm left with a slow gray-scale printing color printer. With a fancy LED displaying "Cartridge Failed".

Was 5 stars last week! 2007-06-30
I loved this printer until a couple of days ago. It printed excellent photos, and I've never had any problems with it since I bought it about 2 years ago. The next day after printing a beautiful set of pictures, I turned it on and the display window read, "Cartridge Service Station is Stuck" and it won't do a thing. After chatting on line to an HP rep. He says it's hardware problem and of course there's no servicing it.

Awesome Printer and very fast. Great bonus having card reader, and LCD that is built in. I tend to favor the HP Products and the cartridges are not extremely expensive either.

Good Printer 2007-03-27
I've had it for a couple of years now atleast. No problems so far. Great photos.

Works great... Sort of 2007-03-16

Less then 2 years moderate usage and now it's only printing in black backup mode! 2007-01-12
This HP Photosmart 8150 Printer worked fine with only moderate use for about 1.75 years but now the flimsy Tri-color Ink Cartridge holder no longer properly detects any new Tri-color Ink cartridges detecting every new Tri-color cartridge as being bad.
Less than 2 years of moderate use at best and it only prints in black back up mode now which makes this once great photo printer absolutely useless.
*Word to the wise, if you buy this over priced, older, discontinued model HP Photosmart 8150 Printer new, you had better get the 2 or 3 year replacement, next day exchange extended warranty with it! It will malfunction before it's two years old almost guaranteed!

You get what you pay for 2006-11-02
Not a terribly bad printer, with fairly good photo quality. However, the paper does jam frequently with both plain and photo papers. Sometimes the printer does not recognize the photo tray when placed into position.

Small part broke off from tri-color cartridge holder 2006-07-17
A small plastic part broke off from the tri-color cartridge holder, and now the little metal wire in that cartridge holder area no longer is in the correct position. When I put a tri-color cartridge in, the printer says the color cartridge is bad. The printer now will only print with the black or photo cartridge in--but either way the prints come out black and white. I really loved this printer until this happened. I was concerned about the cheap feel of the cartridge holders and the snap down latch on the cartridges--but I thought it would be ok since it was made by HP. I am going to miss this printer (I am still upset that it broke!) and I was careful with it.

Flimsy as advertised... 2006-03-21
As others have specified, things are flimsy. I've had this printer now for 389 days. And as the tech support person I talked to this evening, there is only a 365 day warranty...

As others have said, it was the color cartridge that is no longer being recognized.

I love(d) this printer... Decent software. Extremely happy with the prints. But after finding out that my "photo" printer is essentially now just a really fast (and that isn't really true with it in ink-backup mode) text printer, I'm not really thrilled with it anymore.

Hopefully there's someone on eBay ready to buy the ink that I just dropped a gold mine on trying to debug this problem tonight...
