disappointing 2008-06-08
It's going back to Amazon. Very poor instructions. Poor scan quality on negatives.

Inexpensive Easy to use scanner 2008-06-07
This is my first slide and color negative scanner. Though i have used scanners for documents and pictures since the days of the 80286, I had no idea what to buy to catalog over 50 years of family slides and negatives.

For the price, this scanner did exactly what I wanted, was easy to learn to use. You can scan four slides, or one strip of negatives. You must advance the slides manually for each scan, but the included film holders let you preload. It comes with three pieces of software, once, which i have learned is one of the best named Silverfast SE. This is a fully licensed copy, and I was able to download a software update immediately after registering the included serial number.

Prescanning at a low resolution is quite fast. Editing is simple once you master a workflow. I can scan about 30 to 40 slides in about 40-60 minutes. Once you decide on a specific slide to do a full detail scan on for image enhancement and repair, a scan can easily last 4 minutes for a 7200 DPI (optical) scan. Interpolation allows even higher dpi, though i can't imagine that being necessary.

I was able to use the included twain drive with PaintShop Pro, and their is an included plugin for Photoshop users.

I highly recommend this scanner.

Good Quality Scanner/Poor Software 2008-06-07
We bought this scanner for my parents to scan the TONS of slides they have kept in the basement. I personally scanned around 300 slides. The quality of the scans is very good - but be prepared to wait. Scanning slides is time consuming. I found that I could scan around 40 slides an hour once I got going.

My only problem is the included scanner software. I found it clumsy and hard to use. If there is a way to use it without the provided software I haven't found it.

Overall, I would recommend this scanner. For the price you can't beat it, and you can put up with clunky software for good quality images.

Worked immediately 2008-05-29
Was scanning 35mm slides within minutes. Worked as promised and easy to use. Software and directions also easy to use.

A Best Buy 2008-05-27
My dad over the years has accumulated a sizable collection of slides that he has given to me. As I live in the digital age I needed an easy way to convert these to a digital format. It was down to this and another scanner and decided to go with it based upon previous Amazon reviews, as well as general appearance. As for setup it was done in as long as it took to load the software. Once loaded you hit the power button and then the button to initiate the imaging software and away you go. Being an IS person I wanted to see how easy it was to set up and begin scanning with little reading of the reference material. With just a few times that I needed to check the documentation I was scanning in no time. Considering that my dad's slides have been in the attic for close to 20 years the images that the scanner produced were very acceptable (issue due to heat, not the device or software). For the price I paid I have to say its a good scanner for the purpose it serves.

Plustek Optifilm 7200 35mm Film Scanner 2008-06-26
I needed a simple scanner for my old 35mm slides that was easy to use at a reasonable cost. I finally found this one and am very happy with it. So far, I have scanned about 600 slides and still going. Mostly, the program is automatic but allows me to do easy color and contrast adjustments. Easy is important to me as a beginner and I get nice quality, with a wide range of dpi-resolution settings. It also works well with my Vista software. A good choice for me and a good buy.

Very pleased. 2008-06-24
This product worked as advertised. No problems installing the software on Windows Vista, which gives a variety of editing options after scanning. I am very pleased with this setup.

Excellent, More than I Expected 2008-06-19
Beautiful pictures & colours, even with QuickScan. SilverFast definitely needs computer savvy, so if you are computer shy stick to QuickScan - like its name, it is quick (and trivial). SilverFast on the other hand has great Global Colour Correction and Scratch Removal features. I use 3600 dpi for best results. The resultant file is indeed large; but who cares, in this day & age of limitless space hard disks and DVDs...

excellent little scanner 2008-06-15
I am scanning slides at 1200 to 1800 dpi, using mostly the default color optimization and corrections on each slide. Some post-editing is required to remove blemishes from dirty slides, but I expected that. The SilverFast software was a little confusing to set up at first, but it works great! I am scanning slides at the rate of 2.5 minutes per slide, including minor touchup on a fraction of the resulting photos.

I am very pleased with this little scanner. The carrying case is a nice extra touch.

Plustek 7200 Great Value 2008-06-13
I purchased this slide scanner because of the good reviews and high praise for the SilverFast software that comes with it and I was not disappointed. This small machine provides great reproduction from slides and the editing ability of SilverFast has helped me clean up damage on 40 year old slides. I found both the scanner and the software to be easy to use. Slides load securely into the 4-slide carriage. Everything is well made, even comes with a case which holds all components of the set.
