Okay for a Season

I've used this for quite a while now. Yes, it does keep the heat away from you, but it has warped quite badly and the rubber bumpers have been a problem all along. They don't stay stuck to the mat and at this point, I've lost two of them altogether. It's time for a new lap desk.

Outstanding product. After trying other options, I find the Lapinator to be the best. I enthusiastically recommend it to friends, all of them pleased, and enjoy giving it as a gift. Once you own one, you never want to be without it.
Horrible for hot, bottom vented laptops!

The plastic becomes pliable when it's hot and basically sucks right up to the vents on the bottom of your computer, even with the little rubber feet in place. It really blocks the heat alright.. blocks it from escaping the computer at all!
Best Heat Reducing Lap Desk
2008-03-13
I've tried the Lapinator, LaptopDesk 2.0 and the iLap and of the three it's not even close...the Lapinator is the BEST at keeping the heat off your legs.
The best part of the Lapinator is that you can use a laptop that gets super hot (my first generation black Macbook) for hours on end and not feel the heat on your legs. Is the Lapinator perfect? No. After extended use, you will be able to feel some heat coming out from the bottom of the Lapinator, but NOWHERE NEAR the amount of heat you would feel from the LaptopDesk and iLap.
For men, you might be better off getting the larger size Lapinator. From the looks of the measurements it seems that the larger Lapinator is wider allowing you spread your legs a bit while using it. The original Lapinator that I have requires you to keep your legs relatively close together for it to stay on your lap.
I never understood how insulating material would keep heat off your legs, but it does. The Thinsulate, I guess, absorbs the heat and keeps it in the material without disbursing it down to your legs. The problem with the LaptopDesk and iLap is that the materials not only absorb the heat, but it makes the heat escape down to your legs. The Lapinator does an EXCELLENT job of preventing the heat from going towards your legs.
I've heard people complain that the Lapinator will only work well for 1.5 hours, but I haven't found that to be true at all. I've used it for 3-5 hours on my lap and the heat does NOT get anywhere near the point of discomfort. You will feel the heat after a while, but again it is negligible.
The rubber stoppers that are included with the Lapinator raise the back of your laptop. I imagine this further helps keep the heat away from your legs. The Lapinator surface is slippery despite what they say, however, attaching the rubber stoppers virtually eliminates any sliding around.
Hope you guys find this useful

Just a simple product that works

The only laptop desk that keeps your lap cool and your laptop cooler. The Lapinator uses ThinsulateTM insulation as the main barrier to the heat generated by laptop computers. This keeps your lap cool allowing you to compute in comfort. The Lapinator keeps your laptop computer cooler too! In fact, it can reduce the CPU temperature by 11 degrees more than the same laptop running on a wooden desk.
Works well

This particular one is too small for using a mouse, so you might want the next bigger one.
worth it

I know this thing can't cost that much to make, so i wish it wasn't $31 (with shipping). That said, I didn't find anything else that solves the thigh-heat problem! It's not sexy, but it works just like you hope it will.
Feel the burn? Not anymore!

I use my Thinkpad a lot. So much so, that I actually managed to cause a minor burn on my leg after using it for a long period of time. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had been using a really hot laptop. Since then I've acquired a small collection of laptop pads.
I have one from Thermaltake that is a mat filled with powder that melts when it gets hot. Interesting, but kind of floppy too. I have one shaped like an X, which I'm sure would be more impressive if I were into video games (it looks like an X box top), but it is really stiff. This one, as they say, is just right.
The two pads lift the main top off your lap altogether, and create an airspace between you and the hot laptop. The top itself is thin, but that's okay because it isn't touching you so it doesn't have to be thick.
The only thing I would change is the top is really slick and the laptop slides around on it, particularly if you haven't installed the optional little feet that tilt the laptop and raise it up for bottom venting fire breathers (they are the two bumps you see at the top in the picture). It would work better for me if the top were non-slip, but it isn't that big a deal.

This insulator pad looks great and I am sure it works but I have it in my laptop bag right now. Hopefully, one of my three laptops might be hot during use and I can insert the pad under the laptop.
