Don't bother with these head phones
2008-04-29
Don't bother buying these for the noise-cancelling effects even if they are only 35 bucks. They aren't worth it. These ear buds "might" cancel out 35% of the static noise, but that's about it. I have other noice-cancelling headphones (not ear buds) that work much better, and before I purchased these I thought they'd work somewhat similar in cancelling most of the noise than my other head phones. they don't work nearly as well. I guess what I'm saying is Don't expect great things from these cause you'll be disappointed. I wish I would have save the $15 extra dollars I spent for the "noise cancelling" effects and bought a nice pair of regular ear buds. I can't recommend. hope this helps.
Good sound, major snarl

The noise canceling feature works well for me, but the cord design confounds every attempt to slip them on quickly. They loop and snarl and every time I have to unravel the knots. The unit has a battery-powered amplifying device which adds weight. The ear buds are very comfortable but tend to come off.
I wouldn't buy it.

I own this product. They deliver excellent sound, but they have a very annoying neck strap, that you CANNOT GET RID OF.
And, although everybody's ears are different, these really bothered me. The seal inside my ears was OK, but it could have been a lot better. Earbuds should fit snugly in the ear, and block a lot of sound without the noise canceling on. These headphones did not have long enough buds, so I had to push them in to get decent performance. But then the sharp plastic scraped at my ears because i had it so far in.
I even had a friend try it, with the same results.
So, these were pretty bad, but OKAY sound quality. Honestly i would buy something else. I threw mine in the trash and got a 12 dollar set that were really awesome, better than these(Philips SHN2500/37 Noise Canceling Earbuds).
Do some research before you buy! - thanks for reading.
Get what you pay for

The headphones work the way expected from a pair of 30 dollar headphones. Something different though is I think phillips picked up on the uncomfortable ear piece thing because i got mine with 3 different sizes and the medium one fits me perfectly. At first i was ticked off thinking amazon sent me the wrong package, but it turns out that it was right. I tried looking up if they changed the earpiece thing online, but i couldn't find anything. The ear pieces i got fit well. I like how the wire is braided makes it seem durable, I don't know if it is, but it looks like it. I'm overall happy with the product. My only grip is that there is a light humm in between songs. "Update"--I went to philip's website and I guess they did change it, [...].
For the $$ this is a deal that is hard to beat...

I am what you would call, a serious audiophile. I work in radio and after years of working (very) closely with digital audio, I believe I have quite a picky sense of what I like when it comes to headphones/earbuds. They either work and sound good, or not, plain and simple.
If I had the money to spare, I'd buy me a pair of BOSE Quiet Comforts, but being in radio, I DON'T, so I bought a pair of Phillips Noise Cancelling Headphones, which I was profoundly impressed with. So much so that I went and got a pair of noise cancelling earbuds for my mp3 player. Once again, I am equally impressed. I tried them out the first time while driving in my car (yes, I KNOW I shouldn't wear earbuds while driving, and to be honest, I did it only as a test...) and to also try out my mp3 player on my way to work. I have a rather short commute, and this particular morning the wind was HOWLING quite fiercely. I figured if these little babies could stamp out the wind from the inside of my little Chevy, I might really have something here. I put them in my ears (they fit reasonably well and are almost comfortable--and I cannot STAND uncomfortable earbuds or headphones) before I drove out of my garage and after a couple of songs, I turned off the noise cancelling feature and to my surprise, the inside of my car sounded not unlike the cabin of a 727 in an attempt to hit altitude in record time. MAN was I impressed! With my mp3 player completely OFF I could only barely hear the wind outside my vehicle...and trust me, it was LOUD.
In a nutshell, that is the best barometer for -- in my eyes -- what really counts. Great sound under harsh sounding conditions. Are there better functioning earbuds available? Almost certainly. But are they truly worth the impossibly high price most of them cost? I'm going to say NO. Don't get me wrong, I have several choices, were I to have the budget to afford them, that I would purchase in a heartbeat if I could over these...but being the picky person that I am, I have to say that once I got used to my Phillips, I don't feel like I am missing out so much like I used to.
For the money, I personally believe the HN060 earbuds to be MORE than worth the value and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who wants great sound but cannot -- or would rather not -- have to spend so much to get it.
Hope my opinion helps.
not a huge change

did not make a huge change in ambient noise on flight - comfort was ok and construction was good -
Noise Canceling Earbuds

I'm looking forward to air travel with these earbuds but haven't done that yet. I have had the opportunity to give them a try here at home and the sound quality was great. They are reasonably priced, an added bonus.
Not iPhone compatible

The packaging said they were iPhone compatible. But when the phone is active... pushing mail, receiving a call or SMS, I hear that obnoxious buzzing noise that happens when cell phones get too close to unshielded speakers.
Lose your earplugs? THROW AWAY THE UNIT!

Not happy with sound reproduction. Cheap apple buds sound better. WORSE, when I told Philips, they told me to buy another unit? Screw you! I expected better
Uncomfortable

The noise cancelling works just fine, but they constantly fall out and I found them uncomfortable after an hour or so. Mostly they sit at home and I use other headphones on flights now.
