Sabrent SBT-USC1K - worthless
2008-04-11
I bought this unit and a Sabrent SBT-USC6M (the six foot unit)to connect to routre console ports. Neither would work on a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Home Premium. After researching the problem and trying various things I contacted Sabrent by email and they emailed me a Vista installer for the device, which by the way I could not find on the Sabrent site. I ran it and the device installed - once - it ceased functioning and the install package will not re-install the drivers. I have wasted eight hours on this and now I am returning both units and am going to try the Best Buy unit that another reviewer had success with. Yes - Vista has problems - but this is unacceptable for a product in the market today. Sabrent should either MAKE SURE they have drivers that install and stay working or should either not sell these devices or at least provide a strong caveat that the devices have problems with Vista.
Perfect Adaptor For My Use
2008-04-02
No problems. Plugged it into one of my USB ports and instantly have a DB-9 serial port. Construction seems very tough. I think it will last forever!
Works perfectly on Ubuntu Linux
2008-03-27
This USB/Serial converter works perfectly on Ubuntu 7.10. It uses the pl2303 chip which Ubuntu recognizes immediately after hotplugging it. The serial port is then available under /dev/ttyUSB0.
I have tried several USB/Serial converters, some even more expensive than this one, and found that the Sabrent SBT-USC1K not only works flawlessly, but is also very reasonably priced.
USB to Serial Adapter cable
2008-03-26
I purchased 2 of the USB to Serial Adapter cables and it never works. You able to see that there is a Comm port in the device manager but when you try to link with the device has no communication. I tried in different computers still doesn't work. It was a waist of money. Not even worth to sent it back because I had to pay for the shipment. I end up buying another USB to serial cable in a store instead of online. Don't buy this product.
Sabrent SBT-USC1K driver hangs W2K SP2
2008-03-05
Purchased this device to connect signaling on an older APC SmartUPS that only supports serial connection. Appeared to install OK and connection with UPS via PowerChute Plus appeared to work OK transmitting control signals and operating log info. However, after running 2-3 hours, driver hangs Windows 2000 SP2 requiring hardware RESET to restart. Experienced failure 3 times. Based on other reports about manufacturer's non-responsiveness, I am returning the part & driver disk to Amazon.
USB/Serial Adapter

It is didn't cost so much for shipping, I would send it back. I paid $8.99 for the product and $5.58 for the shipping and the product is defective and doesn't work. It is a Sabrent SBT-USC1K Hi-Speed USB 2.0 to Serial DB-9RSW-232 Adapter.
Works great with Win XP & Vista, even in virtual environment
2008-05-15
I run Win XP on a Apple Laptop using Parallels and it works great on that. I could also use my Win Vista PC to communicate with my test module. But it was not working with one of our RTUs until I got the latest drivers from Prolific. Great product and good value for money.
Full Functionality At A Low Price
2008-05-15
My lenovo 3000 pc didn't have a serial port, this adapter installed easily and worked immediately for me with Hyperterminal to configure a Cisco router. It was the lowest total cost product I found, and I'm happy, I'd recommend it to anyone looking to add a serial port to a pc without one.
overall good

works great for console access to cisco routers except for break sequence. this is a common issue for USB serial connections thsi one does not fix that problem, but great for working systems.
Don't Waste Your Money
2008-05-07
Please don't waste your money on this thing. I bought it to connect my Garmin eTrex Venture to my laptop. The cable does not work. My GPS works fine connected to my desktop PC through the serial port but it will not work using this adapter cable on either my desktop or my laptop. Tried all the companies drivers (which all seem to be the same ones just under different file names). My laptop is running Vista (I had no choice in that matter) and e-mailed Sabrent for Vista drivers. They sent me a file and it did not work either. Neither of my PCs will recognize the GPS unit when I use this adapter cable. I guess I could be doing something wrong but a lot of other folks seem to have the same problem. I bought it for the price but I guess this is a classic example of the old saying "you get what you pay for".
