Dual Sensor with battery backup is great
2007-11-28
Switching over my existing smoke alarms to use dual sensors and have battery backup. Easy to install and great price. Great purchase!
Easy Installation
2007-11-12
In my opinion, this alarm should be in every home. The dual sensor alarm makes perfect sense. It covers both quick burning fires as well as the slow smoldering. I like the solid/constant green light on the alarm which indicates it is receiving power (hard wired) in addition to the battery back up. I purchased three of these to replace my home alarms...and the installation was very simple and easy to perform. I read a review prior to purchasing concerning the production date of the alarms. The review mentioned the alarm had been produced several years earlier, then placed in a warehouse, and shipped later. The alarms I received were all produced a few months prior to my purchase.
Great Detector, but missing 1 feature
2007-11-05
Really like the Dual Smoke Sensor and AC with Battery backup. The one feature I would have liked to see it a remote hush - where you can use any tv or other remote and point at the detector and have it hush. Some of our ceilings are quite high where they are installed, and it would not be easy to hit the hush button (not even with a yardstick).
With the infrared remote hush feature added it would get 5 stars from me.
Also FYI - I got mine in Nov 07, with a Manufacture date of Jun 07, so <6 months old.
Model is PI2000 - it was incorrect on amazon page when I ordered, but now looks corrected.
Alarms have 2007 Production date
2007-10-29
I just ordered 6 Kidde P12000 Dual Sensor smoke alarms. They were shipped correctly (the AC Wire-in type) and the production date on all 6 is May 8, 2007. Nice alarms at a GREAT price. They even came with a battery! I was concerned about the production date after reading several reviews but took a chance given that I couldn't find these at any store locally. Glad I did!
An Essential Item for Your Home!
2007-10-27
I had read the previous reviews on this item, where people said they were receiving detectors dated 2003 and one review said this product was no longer being manufactured.
So I got a number to the manufacturer and called them direct; they said the product is still being made. I ordered one and the date code on the one I received was June09,2007.
This is a great product, easy installation and I prefer the AC power detectors with a battery backup rather than the battery powered ones. Amazon had this at a better price than I had found anywhere else on the Internet.
great for safety

This unit will detect slow or fast fires. Here is what I did in our house... Our Bedroom, Daughters bedroom and top of the stairs we have the regular detector with a light to help us see to get out. Our spare room at the top of the stairs has a regular detector that also has the wireless feature but also hardwires in to all the others. In our bathroom we have a plug in wireless fire alarm. It gets the signal from the one in the spare room if ANY of our detectors goes off. It makes a verbal announcement that there is a fire. It is very loud and can easily be heard if you are in the shower even with a radio on. In the office at the top of the stairs we have this dual sensor alarm so if either type of fire is detected all alarms will go off. Lastly in the hallway at the bottom of our stairs we have a detector that does smoke and carbon monoxide. If it detects either it will set off all alarms including the one in the bathroom. I feel like we are covered in everyway possible. I feel all of these are much better than what was installed when we built the house 7 years ago. My father was a firefighter for 25 years and we live in a town that relies only on volunteers so I take these detectors very seriously. We have also had a very scary false alarm at 2am before. I can not imagine actually having your house burn down, the false alarm was terrifying enough. But if something terrible was to happen I want every chance to get my family out safe.
Great Service, Great Product

There has been discussion in previous reviews about the date of manufacture. I ordered this product 4/4/08. The date of manufacture was 02/08. Kidde must have made a recent manufacture run on these. Obviously, I am very pleased. Easy installation, and it integrated well into my existing entire house detection system.
1 out of 4 failed within first year.

As many reviewers have indicated previously, you need to watch for old units being shipped and not just from Amazon. I purchased 4 of these in January 2007 (from another online retailer) and all had a production date of 2004. They were easy to install and seemed to work fine for the first 10 months. Then in the middle of the night one unit went off and set off all 4. Actually, a good test in that they sounded loudly and woke up everyone in the house, but it was a false alarm. After cleaning the unit (per instructions), changing batteries, rotating the units to different locations and 2 more nights of false alarms I knew I had a defective unit. I contacted Kidde and was told they would send me a new unit at no charge. Customer service was friendly and helpful, but it took them 2 months and several follow-up communications to ship me a replacement unit. I was surprised that when the new unit finally arrived, it too had a production date of 2004, and that was direct from Kidde!
All in all, I'm happy with the units. I like the features, but the fact that the units were old when I got them does not sit too well with me and would make me leary of buying Kidde products in the future.
Good smoke detector....

Pleased with this purchase. This is an electric powered smoke detector with built-in battery back-up. Includes photo-electric and ionization to detect smoldering and fast fires, and also features a "hush" button to silence the alarm when accidently set off. It has a loud alarm, so it should be able to wake a sound sleeper.
Very Easy upgrade to same brand alarm!
2008-01-05
Our 14 year old house had Kidde alarms, but an older stile. These new alarms were an easy upgrade - didn't even shut off the power! (Don't try this unless you know the danger and how to avoid getting shocked!) After first installation, I pushed the button to test it, and it worked fine in tandem with the old one at the other end of the house. Second alarm installed just as easily. Upgrading makes good sense to make sure your family is protected!
