It was a good selection for me because it does exactly what i needed, and compare to others it's price is fare.
Solved a problem for a tablet PC
2008-06-26
I needed to sync a Palm phone to a tablet pc, the Tablet PC did not have an IR. XP for tablet PC did not include a driver for my Palm Phone,
was able to plug the IR into the PC and sync my phone to outlook for the first time. Have bought from Cables Unlimited multiple times, have always been happy with their service and speed of sending items.
USB Irda Adapter

The Adapter is fine, and the price is terrific. The instructions, however, are not good. They are unclear, difficult to understand, and the illustrations don't always match what comes with the included software.
Jury is still out. Will fix rating pending outcome.

I want to reserve a rating until this matter is resolved. I ordered an item from PC universe, through Amazon. I received the wrong item, and I had to return it by printing out a label and finding a UPS drop off location. I have never received the original item. I have contacted PC Universe about this, and I am awaiting a response. As it stands, this could be two coincidental things: wrong item sent, failure to send correct item, but I am still put out by having to drive somewhere to send it and having to print it out the label myself, which is a hassle if you don't have a functioning printer.
Customer service was helpful otherwise.
A better solution, and quite frankly is the response I was expecting, was to send the original item expidited with a return envelope for the incorrect item. How hard would that be?
Works great

I use this with a Polar S625x and a AXN700 and have had no problems.
it just works - for a fraction of the cost of the entirely analogous, overpriced, Polar product

Add wireless capability to your desktop or laptop with this premium USB to Infrared adapter from Cables Unlimited. This plug and play adapter instantly allows a wireless connection with IRDA capable cell phones, PDAs, keyboards and printers allowing you to send and receive important information.
unpredictable

Well I concur with the people that say that this product is far from perfect. Incredibly finicky piece of equipment, deciding only when it feels like it to accept information. I would recommend spending a few extra bucks for something that is more consistent and works.
Works fine with Vista & Polar CS600
2008-01-07
No problems with Vista & Polar CS600 HRM.
I upgraded from Polar's 725 HRM to the Polar CS600 only to find the previous infrared/USB adapter (from Polar) does not work with the new HRM. I bought this device although I had heard conflicting opinions if it worked or not.
It works fine. I ignored the driver disk and plugged it in, Vista could not find a driver for it so I instructed it to search online for one. It found one and installed it. Following a reboot the PC was able to communicate with the CS600 just fine.
If it makes a difference I already had the previous Polar software installed (PPP 4.0 with its USB driver for the older adapter), then I installed the new Polar ProTrainer software prior to inserting this IrDA adapter.
Computer didn't recognize it, no drivers

I'm not sure where I went wrong here. According to other reviewers, it worked like a charm, but for me, it didn't work at all
I can't find the divers on the web, and it didn't come with a cd-rom, I'm stuck with it, at least I only payed 10 bucks for it.
Dead on arrival

Never worked on XP SP2. After installing the drivers according to the instructions, Windows detected an "unknown device". Even manually specifying the driver's sys file wouldn't work.
