WARNING - not compatible with Intel Macs
2008-08-19
This product does not work when connected to an Intel Mac running 10.5 (Leopard). Keyspan has been acquired by Tripp Lite and after several frustrating adventures with their tech support, it appears that there is no plan for further development activity. This would seem to be a dead product, at least with respect to the Mac.
No Vista support?

Worked great with iTunes on my XP PC, to control through my airport express. Updated(?) my PC to Vista and it no longer works. Seems to be incompatible with Vista. Sigh.
Just perfect becomes awesome

I got this remote and loved it from moment one. Simple and easy. Now I have a Harmony 550 remote that replaces the Keyspan remote... plus controls my Sony LCD, Samsung DVD and old Sony AV Receiver. Took a call to Logitech to get the Harmony to mimick the Keyspan remo. Now the Harmony talks to the Keyspan IR receiver nicely.
Great product! Works perfectly.

The Keyspan remote is the perfect addition to a laptop setup. I play music through MusicMatch on my laptop, which is plugged into the living room stereo. The remote easily controls the volume setting in the MusicMatch program, PLUS the system volume on the computer (using different keys), plus has start, stop, next track, previous track and even scan forwards and scan back.
Even nicer, it does all this while fitting in the palm of your hand. No hulking TV-style bulk. Slim, light and slender. I slip it into my pocket and change volume or track as I move around. If you ever dance in your living room, which my wife and I sometimes do, the remote lets you change volume while you're dancing. Then slip it back into your pocket, it's so small. It's great!
There are a number of media players pre-programmed into the software, but it's even more flexible. The included configuration program lets you set any key to any function, your choice.
Highly recommended. It's one of those "I don't know how I got along without it" kind of things.

This little remote is a quality piece for watching TV on the PC. Since my computer is in the same room as my futon, it makes movie-time much easier to work with and allows me to watch season after season of this and that tv show without the bother of getting up to grab the keyboard every few minutes. Additionally, its range is much higher than that of my wireless keyboard and mouse, and it's equally easy to use. Additionally, since it can be EASILY reprogrammed, I have no issues using it on obscure programs (though I tend to use it with Winamp). It occasionally gets hidden under the covers late at night, but it's color makes it relatively easy to find. I have read a lot of reviews about the batteries. The batteries themselves that come with it are Maxell CR2025. I searched around and asked battery experts. They CANNOT be purchased in rechargeable form, and since most of the reviews say they die rather quickly, I always pop off the back cover and take them out when I'm not using it. There have been whole days that I have forgotten too, but even now, after over a month of use it has not died on me. Also, you can buy 5-packs on e-selling sites like this one for 4 dollars. They are small, but so far I haven't lost the batteries or the remote.

This versatile infrared remote can be used in two ways...When used with AirPort Express the Express Remote provides a powerful way to locally control music being streamed from iTunes on a remote PC or Mac.When connected directly to a PC or Mac, the Express Remote allows you to control audio and video media players on your computer in the same convenient way that you now control a TV or VCR. Use the Express Remote with MP3 players, DVD players, audio CD players, TV tuners, presentation software and more.

Quick delivery. The product doesn't work as well as I think it should, but that's not the sellers fault.
Okay for iTunes, not okay for much else

I purchased this remote for use with some research software I run on a Windows XP machine. The software seemed to allow one to map individual keys on the remote to match the research software, but this never actually worked at all. I found the software to be cumbersome and not user friendly. I did test the remote with iTunes and it worked fine with that, but $60 for an iTunes remote? I returned the remote and since have purchased a unit from Interlink (more money, but actually works as advertised...).
Great for Slingbox

I use this to control my Slingplayer! It works great, just like a TV remote control! Easy to program and setup.

Our square dance club has been using this remote for a couple of years now. We frequently dance to recordings off CD, and often the person controlling the player has to be on the floor dancing. We have adapted the remote slightly to allow a wrist strap, allowing it to be out of the way when dancing but quickly there if we need to suddenly stop (we often do). As long as you have fresh batteries the remote works flawlessly. If you find you are having trouble with the system not receiving commands check your remote battery first. We have had some batteries last a long time while others wore down quickly. So far there has never been a time when we were having problems with the system that a fresh battery didn't fix it. We have even dropped the remote on concrete and popped off the battery casing and when back together it continued to work just fine.
