Along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers, The Marshall Tucker Band is the definitive Southern rock band. Over their storied career, they’ve seamlessly blended rock, country, jazz, pop, blues and soul into a beguiling blend of the best music that The South — and America — has to offer. The 2-disc Anthology is the first collection to pull together the highlights from their 30-year career.
It contains not only their biggest hits—"Fire On The Mountain," "Heard It In A Love Song," "Last Of The Singing Cowboys," "Can’t You See," "Take The Highway"—but also such fan favorites as "Where A Country Boy Belongs," "I Should Have Never Started Lovin’ You," and "Cattle Drive." Since MTB’s on-stage prowess is legendary, a live video clip has been included as a bonus.

Marshall Tucker Anthology

Not at all what I expected. Other than the material that was over played on the radio, the rest of the cd was boring and monotonous. The song I really wanted to hear, "24 Hrs. at a Time", turns out is only good in the live version not included on this cd. This cd will definitely gather dust on my shelf

More than just 'This Ole Cowboy' is missing from this collection, although this is a very nice 2 disc set. Their first self titled album is perfect and only 3 songs are represented here. Can't wait for the real remastered complete works of this incredible band to get released!
Half of It Is Great

Just a quick review here. Half of this compilation is great. I've been listening to the first CD a lot lately. It has all the classics--"Take the Highway," "Can't You See" and "Heard It in a Love Song." Most of the tracks, however, are just as good as those. It shows Marshall Tucker was as good as any southern rock group of the 70s. The guitar work is great, and it's not easy to pull off flute in popular music, but the boys do it. The reason I give the collection 4 stars rather than five is because of disc two. It's merely okay. Some flashes of brilliance but not equal to the band's earlier cuts. That's to be expected: most bands didn't get out of the late 70s and 80s alive. Disc one: five stars. Disc two: three. A must buy if you like the band's work. Disc one is well worth it.

I was a huge fan of the original Marshall Tucker Band and was very dissapointed to know that Doug Gray tours with his own band under the name of the Marshall Tucker Band. When Tommy Caldwell tragically crashed his Jeep while returning home to Spartanburg, South Carolina on April 28, 1980 the band essentially died. Even though they tried to carry on with Franklin Wilkie, the band couldn't play without Tommy. So for Doug, though a talented singer, to try to continue the legend of the MTB by using his own bands songs on an Anthology CD of 30 years of the MTB is a crime when the band only played together for 7 years. Though the band had many guest musicians on tour and vinyl the inclusion of a family tree is a joke. No, I won't be paying for this collection.
