Great value in an upconverting unit

Flawless playback at 720p and 1080i. Optical & coaxial digital audio out, 7.1 analog out, DVI, component (480i), composite and svideo out. 6' DVI cable included, DVI to HDMI adapter as well make this player an outstanding value for an upconverting DVD player. Highly regarding by many, and for good reason.

This player is my favortie players out there. I have a Panny 50 with DVI and a computer, and this unit worked out perfectly for me. Picture quality is super. Makes standard DVD's look High Def on my new TV. Thanks Amazon.
Excellent DVD player 2007-04-01
Good performance with regular analog TV, This is were the Faroudja shines did not find much difference in the digital video quality when setting the various processing. On par quality with high end DVD players
The only con i noticed so far is the ability for it to keep up with fast moving scenes. There was an bug with the firm ware that would cause DVD subtitles to be turned on by default. This seems fixed in newer batches with an upgraded firm ware. Also check out the newer model now available from Oppo.
Overall an excellent well rounded player that plays several formats. Nothing compares so far with this player for features and video quality at this price range.
Awesome player 2007-03-30
I'm glad to find one of these now outdated players because it has DVI output on it. With my 3 year old CRTRPTV, I can take advantage of digital picture since I have no HDMI. The picture was great before but now is sharper & more detailed. The ratings on these players are just incredible when I did my research & now I see why. Glad I found this on Amazon!

- I purchased this player to interface with my 4-year old Panasonic PLT 300U LCD Projector (1/4 HD) which has DVI but is not HDCP compliant.
-- It would only sync at 720P and even that had image problems.
-- The component picture looked a little washed-out.
- The projector synced fine with my old LG LST 3510A at 1080I or 720P (component)so I believe it was not a bandwidth issue.
- Amazon has a great return policy (free shipping, return and full refund) so I sent it back. I'm looking at the Helios 4000 so I can upconvert over component because I can' find another non-HDCP compliant DVI DVD player (upconverting).
Wish it would perform HDTV upconversion on Component Output 2007-10-23
I love it's performance EXCEPT that it doesn't output HDTV resolutions through the component video interface. My TV only has component inputs so this is a big problem for me. Beware, though this may have to do with copy protection compliance or something. Other manufacturers may have the same problem... We're kind of in the dark ages in video world where copy protection trumps functionality every time.
all i needed was a better remote... 2007-09-24
i put this unit on my panasonic plasma. it has fantastic features and plays every disk and file type i have tried. updating the firmware was easy and i recommend doing it first thing. i would take a better back lighted remote over the included cables. problem soved with logitech harmony remote. i love that oppo is out there to extend the life of my sd-dvd collection. when i get a 1080p set, a new oppo will soon follow. i highly recommend this product.
Top rated Upconverting DVD player Meets Expectations 2007-06-17
I replaced a regular DVD player with this Oppo unit after I read an independent lab report that ranked it best when compared to 30 other models. The unit works perfectly, has a sleek industrial design and comes with all necessary cables. I noticed a definite improvement in picture quality with DVDs played on my Sony Bravia 46" HDTV compared to my earlier unit.

This was good when I purchased it but there are probably better options now. DVDs look great on my plasma.

The player showed up in used condition. It was sent back to Amazon from someone else. I never even plugged it in. Retured it the next day very disappointed. I have not ordered a replacement.
