Works as advertized. Great for lead paint removal.

I used this product to strip literally a hundred years of paint off clapboards. Paint removal is slow regardless of the method used but this one is faster than a heat gun and both faster and safer than sanding (old paint). It is a lot less messy than chemicals and in the long run cheaper than using the safe chemcial treatments. It is a little slower when removing eight or nine layers of paint, especially if some of the older paint is so dried out that it resists 'melting' but basically it does work pretty much as advertized. It is also safer than the higher heat guns and there is less risk of damaging the wood or even starting a fire because the IR heat never heats the wood high enough to combust. It is a bit pricy but it doesn't generate lead paint fumes so it's worthwhile as about the safest way to remove old paint.
Good product, but lots of elbow grease needed

I recently purchased the Silent Paint Remover in conjunction with an effort to rid my 1910's house of remaining lead paint on exterior. I last burned paint off a house some 30 years ago and was not looking forward to the tedious hot slow work again. So far the Silent Paint Remover has done an adequate job of removing the paint, but the scraping has been a lot harder than some had led me to believe. Also, although I have been extremely careful about gentle handling of the product so as not to damage the IR quartz heating elements, I recently found upon restarting the product after a couple week layoff, that one of the elements was no longer heating and the other only seems to be getting red for about 2/3 of its length. I have a call in to the seller, but this is frustrating because they are on vacation and no one can answer whether the element is on warranty or whether I need to buy a replacement element (and at $75 a pop, I'm hoping for the former). Finally, despite having purchased the recommended scraping tools, paint removal is not 100% further necessitating a final pass over with a random orbital sander. So all in all this has been an ok product, but not the holy grail of paint removal you'd expect from a pricey product.
Super Paint remover

We have been using this 'lamp' for nearly 3 years now as we use it to de-lead and renovate our old house. It is a fabulous product. Anyone who doesn't find this product anything short of miraculous likes to work too hard. It can strip paint as thick as a nickle in a single pass, in about 15-20 seconds. We have never had a failure with this product. After reading about it on the website, we were concerned about breaking a bulb or wearing one out, but this hasn't happened yet despite being out in the rain, up on scaffolding and tossed (gently) aside. It's fast too. The 15-20 seconds I mentioned earlier may at first seem like a long time, but it is faster than I can scape the paint off in that time (remember the liquid paint is thick and sticky once it's heated). I think it is a great and safe way to strip off paint.
