Best military game available!
2007-12-29
If you enjoy guns, military, shooting, flying, driving fast, explosions - buy this game.
I've logged over 700 hours playing this online, flying choppers, healing wounded, fixing tanks, sniping, doing stunts, and killing over 20,000 other people online 24 hours a day. You can win awards and earn a higher rank. Other people can check your stats to see what you've accomplished.
The maps are HUGE! Very realistic. It will run on your older PC, and make you want newer fast hardware to get the "edge" over your online opponents. You can even download maps, and mods to this game so it never gets old. Lots of add-ons like USA, Euro, and "Special forces". It has simple controls, and is fully adjustable- even has microphone voice ability to command your troops.
Lock and Load soldier!
Very good game

This game shows the growth of the BF group and has the best graphics of the 3 which I own. There are some issues such as poor aircraft control with single player maps being restrictive. Also, boats are to far from the dock in one scenario requiring diving into the water to board - not to realistic. I also have the expansion pack and great scenarios. Do have one issue with it - the night airport scenario crashes my system at various points - suspect it may be overloading the 256M ATI 850XT platinum graphics card. Have not yet tried it with Fang.
The Best War Simulator
2005-11-24
Want to play the best single player war game? Then go play Call of Duty 2. Want to play the best SWAT type tactical? Then go get Half-Life 2 and play Counter-Strike: Source which goes through periodic updates. Want to play the best multiplayer war game? Then before you even consider playing Day of Defeat: Source, go directly for Battlefield 2 instead which is certainly what you have been looking for and probably more. As a sequel to Battlefield 1942 (one of the best multiplayer games ever devised) it is well worthy of its predecessor's name but abandons its World War II premise for modern twenty-first century urban and rural warfare. As the game is built for multiplayer the single player campaigns do not do it justice. You really need to have a broadband connection and join a server to see the game the way it was meant to be played. Player statistics are monitored on-line and allow you to improve in rank and receive new weapons (unlocks). This makes it highly competitive. The same player classes are retained from BF1942 with some additional ones - sniper, machine gunner, anti-tank, medic, engineer, assault and support. The big bonus is the amount of new vehicles that the game has to offer, such as several types of planes, helicopters, tanks and cars. BF2 is one big CTF (capture the flags) with a huge array of photorealistic maps to play in. At player spawn you are given a wide choice of weapons and classes to choose from. Then you have the option of either working as a unit, driving a vehicle (that can also act as carriers) or just leaving your team behind and going on a solo mission frag-a-thon across a vast map (and these are some of the biggest maps ever made). Where BF1942 gave us the historical Pearl Harbor, Petersburg, German Forests, French Country, Operation Overlord, multiplayer style, BF2 goes for made-up non-historical global wars that have a futuristic atmosphere about them. Essentially you will play wars that have yet to be fought with the exception of several Iraq and Middle East type maps. It feels prophetic. The graphics are certainly heaps and bounds ahead of BF1942 giving us better textures, right down to photorealistic grass that you crawl through and branches on bushes that you can snipe behind. You can dash at very fast speeds until your stamina runs out. Explosions rock the world around you, can stun you and send pieces flying through the air. When a black hawk is downed in the town square it destroys everything around it on impact. Medics can revive dying team-mates. This is some of the best multiplayer entertainment you have ever seen. It is the biggest war game that people play online with a very large community (so large that you will find difficulty in choosing a login name for your ID) meaning plenty of 60 player (30/30) servers up and running and for you to join. All though you might just want to start running across a map shooting all around you, as in a real war this approach will probably just get you killed. The game itself takes days to grasp with patients that you must master. You must ensure that for bug free gaming to download and install the latest BF2 patch (currently 1.12 at this time of writing) which prevents crashing to desktop and has extra maps. Never use a CD-DVD crack with BF2 as they don't work. Instead either use the CD-DVD or learn how to load a BF2 mini-image. To be honest the quality of technical support is not the best (but does not make the game experience less) and could be a little clearer. The community is less responsive to answering questions and without something like IRC (internet relay chat) it can be difficult to find a channel of users who are willing to help you learn more about how to play the game. Another gripe is that this game has the hardest controller configuration that simply does not have to be as difficult as it is to program. BF1942 had this problem also. Sadly BF2 hasn't bothered to solve it. A major con is in the load times. High end systems take about two and a half minutes to load each map. The menu screens are not instant. Before Operation Flashpoint 2 brings us the best war multiplayer simulator ever conceived we still want to be able to play a multiplayer war game that will match the experience of Call of Duty 2 on a server with up to 64 players. BF2 does just that.
Pros:
- Multiplayer must-have.
- Fairly realistic simulation experience that you will play again and again.
- The only World War II simulation worth playing on-line right now.
- Good game engine. Solid Gaming.
- Replaces Operation Flashpoint and BF1942 and Day of Defeat: Source as the best on-line war simulation game.
- Really big player numbers of servers.
- Massive Maps.
Cons:
- Needs updating and this is not made clear on the EA website.
- Needs broadband.
- Steep learning curve.
- Long load up times.
- System resource heavy.
Most Addicting Game of the Year - The Pros, Cons and 'System' Requirements
2005-11-21
Age Rating: 12 - 27
Battlefield 2 is well worth the release price of $50. This game is highly addicting (thus the title) and is rated Teen. This game is amazing and has a lot of room for expansion packs.
It has 12 maps, each with 16, 32 and 64 player versions. The 16 player maps are the smallest, and are arguably more tactical and in my opinion, the most fun. The leap between 16 and 32 is huge, but the difference between 32 and 64 is minimal. Five of the maps pit USMC (United States Marine Corps) versus China (People's Liberation Army). The other seven are MEC (Middle Eastern Coilition) against USMC. However, the 1.03 patch adds a 64-player only map, Wake Island 2007. Yes, the classic BF1942 map is back (and is China vs USMC). So, in conclusion, there are really 37 maps in total, but if you think about it, only 25 are truly different from each other. Just so you know, there are only 10 maps available in single-player, each of them are 16 player (which is a good thing, since the AI is really smart and 16-player maps are the most tactical). Just clearing up something that may make you want to buy the game more/less.
Pros:
+ Loads of awesome vehicles (armor, APC's, jeeps, FAV's, boats, copters and planes)
+ Seven evenly-balanced kits (special forces, sniper, assault, support, medic, anti-tank and engineer)
+ 4 weapon loadouts (USMC, MEC, China and unlocked - see below)
+ VOIP & Enhanced Teamwork
+ 12 Maps (really 25)
+ More strategy than the predascessing BF games
+ Amazing stat tracking and ranking system
+ Uber-l33t physics
+ Unlocked weapons are fun and add new gameplay tactics
+ ESRB Rating - Teen
+ Made in Sweden (Yay, Sweden!!)
Cons:
- Not many nations to play as
- Vehicles are a bit too strong against infantry
- No gore (which is a good thing, it would make the rating go up to M)
- No campaign (possibly incorrectly spelled) mode.
- A bit laggy, even with state-of-the-art video cards
- Sniper class a little less advantageus if you do not play it often
- Menu interface missing features
- Loading times are really long
- Too addicting
'System Requirements'
= A headset/quality microphone
= A speaker system with tons of bass so that the whole house will jump when a frag goes off in your pants
= A really good graphics/video card
= A mouse with tons of buttons
= A nearby toilet - you wont go until you are letting it out into your pants
= TONS of time - you dont want your playing time to cut into your social life
= Five friends - its a lot more fun to play with a squad of 6 people that have VOIP and you are friends with
= A butler so you dont have to get up and get food/drinks yourself
= Xfire
This game should be on your Holiday list for any 17-year-old male relatives (including yourself.)
At least I know where my Boyfriend is
2005-10-27
I bought this game for my boyfriend when it first came out and now 4 months later he still plays (almost every night). It's been a great investment because it keeps him out of the bars and even though he's staring at his monitor for hours at a time, at least I know where he is. I'm sure he would give this game 5 stars but since I'm the one who bought it but have never played, I give it 4 stars.
Renewed Life After Recent Patching Efforts

Get ready to drop right into the middle of a 21st century shootout! You have everything you need to get the job done - heavy tanks, tactical fighters, assault carriers, you name it. More importantly, you'll be joining a team of tough-as-nails soldiers who are as committed to victory as you are. Work closely with them - your life could depend on it.
Great in everyway but...

the points you need to unlock new weapons is insane! 1 new weapon at about 1000 and then not again until 10,000!!! I've been playing since it was released and i'm only at 4,000. Only a few more months to go before another weapon unlock. Come on EA.

This is a great game, the ranking system is cool and the concept is great. The system specs are quite demanding though, and I think the maps are so-so, with some really good ones, and some not so hot ones. Overall, worth the money for sure and a great game, and the "Special Forces" expansion coming out soon, should impove the already good parts.
Lastly, please vote that my review was helpful to you. I don't have much going on for me and just the fact that I am asking you to vote shows how much of an identity I need to establish for my own self-esteem. I really want to be "someone" and I would like to be a top 1000 reviewer on this site, it would mean a lot to me. So could you take a second and vote that this review was helpful. Thank you so very much, I will send good thoughts out to you and your family and if you see me online I will let you shoot me over and over and build up your score, I PROMISE, just send me a message first, my handles are samkochel974 and SammyK74. Thanks so very much!!!
Amazing

This game is very addicting. I love it. If you get bored in a tank then try sniping or getting in an airplane. Its amazing! There is so much stuff to do. Although if you didnt like any of the earlier battlefield games then this one is same basic premise.
BattleField2

Love the game, overall fun, either playing ranked or non-ranked, very fun game, graphics are great, i have graphics on the High settings, but i have tested with low and still run very life-like, the only problem with this game that i have had is lag, most servers above 150 ping lag too much to fly, sometimes even drive or aim. it could be my internet, but ive got one of the best computers money can buy, my internet is cable. I ordered this game nearly a month ago, and ive had a blast driving vehicles, i mean come on, you can drive off a 200-foot drop cliff, and if you move correctly, damage the vehicle greatly, jump out and catch your enemy by suprise, if not....well ~@!BOOM@!~. i rated 4 stars only because some of the things are unrealistic, like your parachute can blow up planes and helos taking you along, yeah parachutes can blind the pilot but at the speed of the planes and helos, your chute would just break, leaving you falling to your death...instead you just "Die" You can pull your chute a foot from the ground and 75% of the time live. The Teamkill system is a bit messed up, only because if you plant mines or claymore, and your teamates just see the big red skull on their screen from about 20feet away, they just dive right into em, you loose 8 points from your global score, doesnt seem like alot but it is, because lets say you have mines around a base, defending the base, and one of your teamates in an apc or helo, decides to just...get right ontop of em, they blow up, along with anyone inside of their vehicles, since the top amount of people in a helo is 6 then you get 6 tks, and sometimes you are "Fortunate enough" for your teamates to keep doing that, or they will punish you for their mistake of thinking the big red skull looked like a cute and cudly stuffed bear, i mean come on!
anyways, great game, enough of my whining, ima go shoot some people in this game.
