Editorial Review
The Robert Bosch Tool Corporation enjoys a well-earned reputation for producing high-quality, well-engineered power tools. And we're glad to report that the new Bosch 5412L 12-inch dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw is no exception. This remarkable tool combines unrivaled speed and power with impressive cutting capabilities. It’s also loaded with several innovative, user-friendly features, such as a laser that indicates exactly where the blade will cut. So, whether you’re a professional contractor or a serious do-it-yourselfer, the 5412L will handle virtually any cut, including square crosscuts, miter cuts, bevel cuts and compound angle cuts. In fact, the only type of cut this saw can’t make is a rip cut, but that’s true of any power miter saw.
The saw’s large 12-inch blade, powerful 3-horsepower motor and dual slide rail permits crosscutting boards up to 4-1/2 inches thick by 12 inches long. When set for a 45-degree miter-cut, it’ll cut up to 4 inches thick by 8-1/2 inches long. At a 45-degree bevel, the saw’s capacity is 2-3/4 inches by 12 inches. And when you set both the miter and bevel angles for a compound cut, the saw will cut up to 2-3/4 inches by 8-1/2 inches. This is the ideal tool for installing crown molding. It’ll cut crown up to 12 inches wide when the molding is laid flat on the worktable, and up to 6 inches wide when it’s held at an angle against the saw fence.
The 5412L also features convenient up-front adjustments of all bevel and miter settings, a four-position handle, work hold-down clamps, two sliding fences, dust-collection bag, and built-in sliding extensions that support boards up to 40 inches long. The motor is equipped with an electric brake that stops the blade within a split second of releasing the trigger. At 59 pounds, this isn’t the most portable miter saw on the market, but that small drawback is more than compensated by this tool’s superior performance and innovative features. -- Joseph Truini

Bosch 5412L Great Saw
2008-01-06
I have used this saw now for several weeks and believe it to be the best out there with only one major flaw. This saw is smooth, accurate and enjoyable to use. I previously owned the 12" Dewalt and purchased the Bosch for the superior control placement. The major flaw with this Bosch is the PATHETIC dust bag. The engineer who designed this obviously never used it. A simple modification could improve this feature tremendously. Otherwise, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. It's a great saw.
Great saw A+++

Great saw,way better than my Dewalt 12".The only issue I had was the laser was missing out of the box.
beware when you get it,looks like scum bags can reach there hand in from the top side of the box and steal the laser with out opening the box.
Bosch is sending a new one .Great consumer service
ultimate mitre saw

This Bosch miter saw is the cadillac. Is has all the features plus a few extra features like the built in tool handle to remove the blade, depth adjustment so you can actually cut an even channel/rabbit, and a impressive out of the box perfect alignment with little or no adjustments. The only thing I am not pleased with is the dust collection. It seems everything misses the little bag that is attached because I have been using this saw for several months and there is nothing in the bag. My previous saw, Dewalt, did a much better job collecting the sawdust. Overall though this is the top off the line and all the bells and whistles are included in the price.
Buy the 10" model - Bosch Rules!

I own the 10" model of this saw and love it. When I was looking to upgrade from my old Dewalt 12" I was lucky enough to talk to someone who pointed out to me precisely what some other reviewers here mention: You are going to get a LOT more deflection (blade warp) with a 12" blade. Another great point - 10" blades are lots cheaper than 12". I have yet to find myself going - damn, I wish I had gotten the bigger saw. With the sliding feature I can cross-cut anything up to the point where I should be using a radial arm saw anyway. I use the saw for both framing and finish and get perfect cuts. As for that old Dewalt - it has been demoted to chop saw for plastic and metal, which is about all it ever was good at.
Great saw

I'm a carpenter by trade and I use this saw frequently. It's a great saw for accuracy and performance. The bevel controls on the front are something I'll never again be without. Only improvement I could imagine would be a light so I can see in low light situations such as when the house is not finished inside yet.

I love this saw. I bought thru Amazon approx 2 years ago. It's powerful and easy to use. The Bosch stand is a worthwhile addition.

I'm a do it yourselfer (intermediate) and have been recently upgrading all of my tools to Bosch, Hitachi and Makita. I sprung for the Bosch 5412L 12" , its "brother" miter table the Bosch TracRac, and it's second cousin the Bosch Digital Protractor DWM40LK. Shipping arrived on time and free, no problems at all. My first words when I opened the box was "WOW", this is a serious tool (at least it looks like it is worth $600 big ones). There is nothing to getting the Miter saw setup, but the table takes a beginner like me about an hour to get setup and the saw in place. Make sure and hold the arbor button in and KEEP turning the wheel until it catches (laughing at myself). Trust me, get the Bosch miter table and the crown molding accessories as they make my life so much easier cutting crown molding for my new kitchen cabinets. I purchased a Forrest Chopmaster blade because of the good reviews and I needed something to make perfect cuts as the crown molding I purchased was expensive. Using the Bosch digital protractor, I easily get my Miter angle and Bevel angle and turn the dials on the saw and whammo, perfect cuts. I have a lot of crown molding (with a 38 degree spring angle) to put up and saved so much money buying the equipment and doing this myself. I am not a professional by any means, so in summary: Bosch 12" Miter saw perfect 10/10, Bosch Digital Protractor 10/10, and Bosch Miter table 9.5/10 because they forgot two washers and didn't supply enough pictures for D.A.'s like me, but once you set it up, we r talking a serious, serious cutting machine. Oh yeah, this can easily be set up by yourself but you may want to bribe a friend when attaching it to the stand...

This saw is insane. By far the best saw I have ever used. The saw was square right out of the box, no adjustments needed! Bevel controls in the front make it so easy and fast to use. Totaly recommend this product.
Bosch 5412L

My builder walked off to another job...I had to finish the trim myself. I had used a sears miter saw and the cuts were difficult with the tall trim. I ordered this and it came perfect out of the box...Best decision I made...Every person I had to help me on my home drooled over the ease of the Bosch 5412L. It made my work look professional....Thanks Bosch Amazon had a great delivery time.....
top notch saw

Excellent saw. I use this for both framing and finish work. It's accurate and dependable. The handle is unique in that it can be rotated to various positions. The little table extensions come in handier than I ever expected them to. I love the attention to larger than 45 degree cuts for both cut types.
The 12 incher takes a while to get to full speed. For faster cutting in framing setups, I use a 10 inch chop for a lot of work because it ramps to full speed way faster, less downtime. The main purpose for my bosch 12 inch is when I want beautiful, consistent cuts such as in moldings. It also comes in handy for angled cross cuts that normally required a hand circular saw to perform.
The laser is the stupidest damned thing I've ever seen. It only turns on when the blade is rotating due to its design. Hitachi uses a laser with a switch. It stays on until I turn it off. I used the Hitachi laser to line up cut angles and find angles of particular pieces perfectly and without a hitch. Trying to do that by running the blade up and down the piece not only nicks it (which really matters for finished pieces) but almost never really works perfectly. Having lost that ability with my Bosch saw is one of the saddest things that has happened to me. Some people might argue that i can do the same thing with the Bosch saw on. You can go ahead and hold your work secure while adjusting the angle of the cut and the placement of the piece with one hand and holding the saw on with the other hand (which is dangerous because your hand will be under a running a blade, don't actually do it). I think Bosch added it as an afterthought in order to be able to use it as an advertising gimmick. It's a waste of time, don't bother installing it.
Other than the laser, which perhaps I was spoiled over, I am very happy with this purchase and have had a lot of guys comment on the quality of the cut that occurs without fail from this saw. In the end, the quality of the cut and the ability to make a variety of cuts is all that matters.
