Wire Study Stand 2008-09-08
This wire study stand is simple in design, so I was expecting it's use to be basic. I wasn't thrown off by this expectation.

Pros:
- Holds books open to be easily read as simultaneously typing, drawing, free-hand writing, etc.
- Can hold many book sizes.
- Is relatively compact, and is also very durable.

Cons:
- The metal "arms" that hold it upright seem to be a bit uneven in design, so you have to adjust it in "just that right" way, or else it tilts one way, and then tilts the other way..
- The metal "cradle" that holds the book doesn't allow for a large text book to be adjusted easily; the width is narrow, compared with a text book, so you have to get it balanced and be careful not to knock it over; the depth of the "cradle" is also narrow, so if you have a book of many hundred pages, it's not very fun changing pages. You have to physically lift the book flip the page, shimmy it back down. This is fine if you're trying to focus on those two open pages at a time, but if you're skimming quickly, and typing along as you read, then it can be a bit tedious to take the time, every time, to lift flip, shimmy.. lift flip, shimmy.

Overall, not too big of a deal with the cons. The price isn't "great" with shipping added in. But it's OK.

I wouldn't particularly recommend this item, but I wouldn't say "Don't buy this!" at the same time. Hence the 3 star.

There are probably better models.. but because amazon.com doesn't have videos to demonstrate product usage, then (I feel) we, the consumers, are left in the dark.. thinking "Hmmm... do I trust this 5 STAR! review that's probably left by the manufacturer...?"

excellent product 2008-08-15
I read the reviews before purchasing this product, and I have no trouble turning pages or adjusting books. The design is clever and you can't beat the price. I bought three of them (grad student) for research and writing. Fits easily in my backpack, too. The arms are 1.5" wide, so thick books won't fit. Most library books fit fine; you'd need a different device for something like a dictionary or other reference book.

Difficult 2008-08-13
I just bought this, and have been using it for a regular paperback novel.
The coiled wire catches the pages, it's difficult to turn the pages, and there really is nothing to hold the book open without causing the book prop to stand unevenly.

I would recommend a book prop with a plastic back and swivels at the bottom that will adjust with you book.

disappointing 2008-03-22
i bought this stand to read magazines and was disappointed. it would be good for a hardback book but not a paperback. soft books fall over.

Good for small hardcover books, not meant for textbooks 2008-02-26
This cover is only good for small books with hardcovers. If the books is paperback, it is pretty difficult to read with this stand, and it will make you very frustrated. Same goes for thick textbooks (ex. college textbooks). Big books tend to make this stand collapse over, and you will be very frustrated using this for textbooks.

Overall:
Pros: works well with small/medium hardcover books.
Cons: the design of the stand is not meant for big textbooks, and small paperback books.

Simple, but it works 2007-10-16

Why not? 2007-09-17
Probably one of the best ideas - now you can eat and read books that won't stay open on the table! Or, for students, you can take notes and organize your thoughts without holding your book open!

book holder 2007-07-27
it arrived in perfect condtition as advertised ; i could improve the design by articulating the arms that hold the pages open

Good 2007-05-12
It's pragmatic. It's okay for standing it on a desk and reading from there, although turning the pages is a labor. It's been good for me because my neck gives me issues if i look down too much when i read, so that's probably the main benefit. Other than that, it's probably just stylistic (if you call it stylistic).

design matters, so does size 2007-01-05

This is a very cool product made with just three pieces of stainless steel.

It folds up into a very small space and holds a small to medium sized book in a near-vertical, open-face position with a certain panache.

But if you're working from a very thick book, you need a different bookstand. The convenience disappears when you have to be finessing some of the pages of a large book onto the outside of the vertical 'placeholder' and the rest of them on the inside.

I like the idea. 'Shame they don't make a large size, too.
