Great for podcasters!

If you are a podcaster or a musician you will love GarageBand!
Lacking some important functionality

I bought iLife primarily to get iDVD so that I could take some video clips and put them on DVD. iDVD is a bit hard to use and not exactly intuitive, but the killer for me is that it will not let you pick the output drive, rather it defaults to a particular drive and won't let you change the drive. In my case it defaulted to the internal CD-Rom drive which won't write a DVD. I've done a lot of web searching for a work-around, but found none. There are a number of "maybe" this will work solutions, like hold the control key down when you click burn, but none worked for me. The end result is that the product is useless for me. Also, iMovieHD won't let you pick a temporary drive and given the potential size of the files you are working with, this seriously limits you ability to use the product unless your main drive has lots of space. All in all, I would say that the products in iLife are little better than what you might find on the web free.
too too much!!

i had to upgrade my MAC G4 from 10.3 to the 10.4 tiger. it meant i had to buy almost all of the programs again. all i really needed was iPhoto but because of the way it is marketed and bundled i had to spend the money to buy all three. i will never use iDVD, iMovie or iWeb or even the garage band. but it's cool. maybe i'll get creative.
Web publishing for dummies
2007-05-14
When I wanted a website for my art business, I sought bids. The cheapest I got was an initial $2,000 (a wee bit more than my budget allowed). Two years later, on a complete whim, I bought iLife '06. I'd never even heard of it until I saw it on Amazon a few minutes before I bought it. Four hours after I installed the software, without even reading any instructions, I had a five-page website on .Mac. Also, I was able to copy and paste all the files/pages created with iLife onto my real-world site. Way cool. Plus, the books you can publish and have printed through Apple -- using iPhoto -- are first-rate. BUY THIS
Great product!

As advertised and very functional. I had just a little trouble figuring out how to transfer my web pages to the web site on .mac, but it was quite intuitive. Recommended.
another iLife

I am not going to buy any more iLifes, I believe they are just about useless and cost too much. My other software applications take care of everything, so iLife is useless. Apple is making some big bucks off of these things. Wake up people! There are better applications out there for the MAC.
iLife 06

Apple iLife 06. I had iLife 05 working well on an eMac, and then upgraded the operating system to Mac OS 10.5. That seemed to kill iLife 05. Version 06 is doing all that I expected and wanted, as I work on editing slide shows and videos. A good piece of software that is easy to use.
No Upgrade Pricing
2007-08-09
Apple has created a new version of iWork, and they provide no upgrade pricing, effectively sticking it to customers and vendors. If you buy this product, you will be stuck with the old version and have to pay FULL PRICE for the new version that contains a spreadsheet application.
And, yes, Apple deleted any comments complaining about the upgrade policy on their discussion boards.
Better for lots of photos but not as organized
2007-07-30
I purchased iLife '06 ONLY because iPhoto was maxed out (even though '05 states it supports 25,000 photos and we only have 14,000+). Well, the new iPhoto does work great and is fast, however... the way it organizes the photos on your hard drive is a nightmare. No longer are the photos stored in yearly folders, with month and day sub-folders. Now it stores everything by roll number - which is created when you upload the photos. So if you upload two photos that's a roll if you upload 2-weeks of photos, that's a roll, etc. If you post a lot of photos to the internet, you'll know why this is a HUGE pain. Their solution: save copies of the photos you want to upload into a new folder on your computer. How does that SAVE time?? I'm pretty disappointed and HOPE this is an issue they revisit going forward. As it is, it's screwed up the prior folders also so it's a good thing I have it all backed up on an external hard drive up to the point of installing the new version.
Fantastic, even with the glitches

I'm joining the other 5 star people. It's a fantastic product. I wasted my money buying an instruction manual. It was never needed. I bought it for iWeb, and yes, you can have sites on the web in mere hours. One glitch is that you don't get to choose your own domain name, so I bought a name and set it up to forward to the name that .Mac assigned me. Fine, but the forwarding doesn't work for 10-20% of the people I've asked to check out my website. I have to then give them the "awkward" assigned name. Since I'm using it for my small business, this isn't good. So far, I haven't found a solution. All first generation products have issues however, and I still love it (iphoto, iTunes, iDVD, as well).
