Much larger than I expected 2008-05-12
The Sony MDR-XD300 headphones are exactly how they are described in the over view. The headphones have a pretty good overall sound for the price. These headphones are perfect for the house and they include a very long extension that reaches all the way to my couch (15ft away). They have two different modes (independent) for each ear, media and music. I really couldn't tell a difference between the two. The thing that impressed me the most was the suspension system that makes the headphones virtually weightless on your head. I have worn these for four straight hours playing games and forgot that they were on my head. They have a deep sound but not overpowering to the ears. They are extremely large in size, this is really the only drawback of this product. For the price, get them but if you are looking for a great set of monitors a would recommend the Grado SR60's for twice the price.

No Deal 2008-04-05
i dont really know any fancy jargon to show how disappointed i was with these headphones. just Overall very disappointing sound, nothing compared to a pair of sennhiers. Bass response is next to nothing and the mids and highs all blend it giving it sometimes a rather brash sound.
Sony generally produce brilliant and very impressive equipment, that gives you value for money. However these headphones have let me down big time. Take my word for it, spend your money on a nice pair of sennheisers. i have had 3 pairs of sennheisers before these and can definitely tell the difference.
Also, after wearing them for even half an hour, your ears start to get real sweaty, which, for me anyway, is really annoying and uncomfortable.
Honestly, i wouldn't bother with these.

Very Comfortable... but sound Quality is low 2007-11-02
I purchased this Sony MDR-XD300 looking at the reviews, i was however disappointed with the performance because the sound quality was just not up to the mark.

However this headphone even though is humungous, is really very very comfortable... I printed out the return UPS label after i bought the Audio Technica Quiet Point headset, but i did not return this product just because of the comfort.

So if you are looking for a comfortable headphone... this is the one, but the bass is really low so dont have high expectations....

So So Headphones, 2007-07-06
First off, the sound won't blow you away. But for something thats this cheap it's not bad, although I was hoping for much more. They weren't really comfortable but they never irritated me. They looked kinda cool, something spacey, I'm not sure it thats a pro or con however. If you're looking for something better but a little pricier go for the Grado SR60, they sound a whole lot better.

Best head phone I ever owned. 2007-02-13
If you are looking for a rich Bass handiling head phone this is the one.
This is Big, but its worth the sound. The movie and music mode-just ognore it, it dosent make any difference. But the nicdymium magnet is awesome. Theater like experience when u watch movies in u r lap top.
If you want to go for any thing better than this go for boss. bUT TRUST ME AT THIS PRICE you wont get any thing better

Sound and fit are good, but connector breaks easily - cable is CLOTH 2007-01-24

pretty good 2006-11-06
I had 2 AIWA HP-X223 pairs previously. One was ruined by someone tying the cord in a very tight knot, the other still works, but my cat has chewed up the cord so I'm not sure how much longer it will last; I also just wanted an extra pair. These seemed pretty much equivalent.

The AIWAs are better. They sound better, they were cheaper, they're more comfortable, and they block out sound better than the Sonys. Also, the cat doesn't seem to like this cord (and I like the extension). The Sonys are a pretty good replacement, and Awia doesn't exist anymore, so...

Nice ... but 2006-10-29
The audio form these headphones is superb. This have got to be the most comfortable pair of headphones I have ever owned.

But they are truly ugly, the picture doesnt give the ugliness justice. So only buy if you dont mind being laughed at or will be alone

Pretty good value, but funny looking 2006-07-23
First off, I'll say that I paid about $20 (after shipping) for these cans, as a quick and low cost replacement for a pair that broke after 3 years of use. What I was looking for was a fair pair for $20 or less.
The problem is that its quite difficult to find a good pair of headphones for under $20. There's plenty of choices in the $20 to $40 range. I've tried the Sennheiser HD202 and 212 and found them far too uncomfortable for my head. So I went for a "gamble" and bought these Sonys.
After just two days of fairly in depth listening I've found these headphones completely worth the $20 I spent for them, but not more than that.

Strongpoints:
* Very comfortable. This is a big plus for these phones. They are friggin huge and dorky, but they are the most comfortable headphones I've tried in a while. Unfortunately, I don't own any kind of scale to weigh them, but I must say they are unusually light feeling for their size. However, they are made out of plastic (ill get back to this later).
* Present bass. If you like bass, these are your headphones. For my taste, though, its a bit too much bass, so I have had to cut it back a bit in eq. I find that a lot of cheaper phones are lacking in this department, so it's good to hear a pair that actually have bass.
* Very good sound seal. I personally like closed-ear headphones. They don't let much sound in or out, which is great for a noisy house.

Weaknesses:
* Bulky. If you are self-conscious or style conscious, you probably should not get these headphones. They are not for wearing in public, thats for sure. But their size allows for one of the most comfortable pairs of phones out there. So take your pick.
* Plastic. It is a good thing I did not pay an exorbitant amount for these, because I have a feeling that these are going to need replaced in about a year. The crossbar that connects the two earpieces is very pliable, and I have a feeling that that will be the first to break. But, as I said before, it does make for a very light pair.
* EQ. This pair of phones definitely does not have a flat sound. Its very mid heavy, and, depending on your taste, very bass heavy. I've found that by cutting the low mids and boosting the highs, you can even out sound out to the point that it sounds pretty darn good.

Conclusion:
These headphones are cheap. But, if you're looking for cheap and good, these are the way to go. The sound is great, with a bit of eq. The fit is very comfortable. I've worn them for hours at a time without any ear fatigue. So if you're looking for something that will stand the test of time, and are willing to make a bit more of an investment, do that. But if you're looking for a cheap pair of phones that sound good and fit great, pick these ones. I don't regret my purchase at all.

HUGE 2006-07-17
if you've read any of the other reviews on this page, you'll know that these things are massive and look redicilous on your head, but the drawbacks end there. The comfort of these things is great, they're very light for their size, the cups fit around your ears, not ON your ears like many headphones, so there is absolutely no pressure put on your ears. Before this pair, i bought a pair of sennheisers, but i had to return them due to the headaches/earaches i got after wearing them for only 20 minutes! The sound quality of these comapred to sennheisers is indistingusiable. Sure i have heard better sounding cans before, but none in this price range.
