Enjoying new sounds...
2008-02-29
I've been looking for a new pair of headphones for about four or five years now since I ran over my last pair with a windrower out in the field (long story). I bought these off the reviews and the price at purchase. The size wasn't a deterrent for me, but I could see how it could be for some people. I purchased these with the idea that they would stay at home to be plugged into my stereo or my discman (I still like the sound of my CD's or vinyl over digital). However I wouldn't be afraid to take them with me on a trip, because if it's good sound I don't care what I look like. That said, they are big and probably look a bit ridiculous (air traffic controller anyone). But the sound is great, I'm picking up on details within songs that I had not noticed before. They don't block out all outside noise, but they do a decent job. Comfort wise the ear pads are very comfortable, which is where I've had most of my problems with headphones in the past. The skull portion can get a bit uncomfortable if you don't have the situated just right, but once you find the sweet spot they fit perfectly and feel great. An added bonus for me was the extension for the cord, I don't have to be sitting right next to the stereo, which is nice. The cord is wrapped in a fabric material rather than plastic, so we'll see how it wears, but so far so good. Overall good buy =)
Unparalleled Sound Quality
2008-01-02
The sound quality is unmatched at 5 to 30,000 Hz. They are a little bulky which makes it hard to be on the go with them, but not impossible. This is the only reason I didn't give a fifth star. They have excellent outside noise blocking padding. My wife was using the vacuum cleaner while I was listening to meditation music and I was not disturbed at all. They are remarkably light despite their physical size. I wear them for a minimum of on hour for meditation and never feel any stress from them. The nylon covered cord is nice because it keeps it from tangling and protects the jacketing from abrasions. I plan on getting one or two more pairs as backups.
I'm not an audiophile

So if you want technical stuff, you probably want to look somewhere else. What I know is that this is one of the few headphones that I find really comfortable. I've been able to wear these for about 4 hours at a time without having to give my ears a break. The sound quality is, from an unprofessional point of view, flawless, although not perfect. It doesn't block sound completely, but I actually wanted my headphones like this, so I can hear if someone's knocking on my door if my phone is ringing, so that is actually a plus for me (although sometimes I still won't hear it because I'm playing music too loud).
Not disappointed at all..

I had the Sony MR V700DJ for almost 2.5 years and before that I had the MDR V250V, again, for 2.5 years.
I bought these because of:
1. Low Impedance. Even the smallest mp3 player can drive these without any problems.
2. Great frequency response
3. Around-the-ear/Circum-aural comfort
4. Great experience with previous Sony headphones.
Pros:
1. Blocks outside noise pretty effectively.
2. Sounds as good as the V700DJ which are at $50 more expensive on the List price.
3. Amazing circum-aural comfort. I can't imagine going back to the V700. I can see an entire movie without realizing they are on.
4. The texture type cord is super light and manageable.
5. Instead of having one long cord they finally had the sense to split it up and provide an extension instead.
Cons:
1. HUGE! Didnt expect them to be so big. They dwarf the V700s.
2. Feels flimsy/cheap. The cushions are very cheap compared to the superior leatherette of the V700s. In fact its the same material as the MDR-V250's.
Final Note: These are NOT the fold-and-carry type of headphones. In fact they dont come with a case supplied.
In summary, I am pretty satisfied with these headphones. I would have given these a 4.5 star rating if that was possible.
Still wearing after a year. Still 5 Stars

I've owned these headphones for over a year now, and they still blow my mind away when I put them on. I primarily listen to Trance and Rock music. The lows hit very well, while the sound of the high-hat is still crisp. Yes, they're big, but once you put them on, you will realize how well they're designed to fit. If you're looking for an amazing set of headphones, pick these up.
I'd recommend something else

I got these because they were rated pretty high on here and they looked decent. But there's a couple things you need to know before buying these:
1) They're gigantic. The picture doesn't do it justice, they're enormous and the over the head band makes you look like an alien or something. Not for traveling whatsoever (not that they're designed for that, just pointing out that you will NEVER takes these with you somewhere).
2) The sound quality is meh. I had a different pair of sony street style headphones which I got for 30$ and they had twice as good sound quality as these. The bass is there but it's weak and won't satisfy.
3) They're really not very comfortable. The speaker parts are slanted to accommodate your ears, but they're also hard and inflexible, and if you wear them for much longer than an hour they will start to hurt and will become very uncomfortable.
4) They're not well made (or at least mine wasn't). I've only had them for a few months but some part of the internal connection from the cord to the right earpiece has come loose so now the audio flickers in and out on the right side unless I find the right position for my head and then stay exactly still, which needless to say becomes very irritating.
So overall I would say don't buy them, you're likely better of with something else for an equivalent price.

My daughter just loves these earphones. She says the clarity of sound is very good and they are very comfortable on the ears.
Great sound quality, decent build.

I was looking for some full sized headphones for at home listening, and I came across these. They pretty much met my expectations, but did not greatly exceed them.
Pros
-Bass is accurate, deep, and has a nice subtle "rumbling" feel to it.
-Sparkling high end, good mids (although not as noteworthy as the bass or treble).
-Great frequency response (5-30k hz)
-Comfortable padding, does not squeeze your head
-Low impedance, so its easier to drive than most full size or even regular neckband/around the ear headphones
-Auto adjusting headband, so theres no need to constantly adjust.
-Really light, so theres no strain on your head or neck at all.
Cons
-Does not block outside noise very well. You'd expect big around ear headphones to block out some noise, but these pretty much are the same as regular headphones.
-Pretty big, not that I mind, but some people will.
-Not the most stylish thing you'll ever wear.
-Pretty much all plastic, and considering how light it is, it may feel a little "cheap" to some.
-The padding isn't it best. Its a thin urethane leather, which kinda feels it may rip or shred after constant use, although it hasn't for me yet. If you have a lot of dandruff or greasy hair, then padding and the cloth inside the muffs can attract a lot of that.
Overall its a good buy. I wouldn't say its the absolute best bang for your buck you'll ever get, because there are other excellent headphones at this price also, but its good enough. If you aren't planning to use this in a noisy place, and don't mind the size, then this would be a great buy. The sound quality is fantastic, especially for this price.
Excellent Phones!

Superb phones. Great sound, very sturdy, very comfortable.
Low impedance, so they are great for using on computer. No tangle, sturdy cord is excellent. I bought these 2 years ago for $99 and they were worth every penny!
Decent Mid Range Headphones
2008-03-09
These headphones sound awesome on my Cowon D2. Excellent frequency range. Deep crisp bass. Crystal clear highs. Mid range is so-so. They make my ears sweat. Very comfortable. Low ohm rating makes it ideal for wimpy MP3 Players. Big and bulky but definitely recommend!
