not great
2008-09-03
The coating on the keys is poor and has begun wearing off after only 6 months. Its the "gap" in the coating that creates the letter shapes. Therefore, some letters will soon be hard to read. N and M already look like blobs
Also: I use the volume controls frequently.. NONE of them are back lit,
Also, the position of the light source behind the numeric keys make it very hard to read the punctuation marks that you use with the shift key. For example, when you need #,$,or % I have to shift far forward over the keyboard to see these symbols.

I was trying to decide on a new keyboard,I was looking for a gaming keyboard that had blue backlighting to match my tower, and when I saw this for only 32 bucks I figured if I didnt like it Im only out 32 dollars, I am so glad I bought this keyboard, it looks great, the lighting works really well in the dark-it just looks awesome all lit up,it has a very nice keystroke, as others have mentioned it is some times hard to see the keys very clearly when looking down at an angle, but you can still make them out and if you know how to type a little its fine, all and all its a great keyboard and for the price you cant go wrong.
Works Great With a Mac!

This looks really slick next to my blue death adder and my belkin n52te, and I love that all three of these devices work perfectly on a mac.
I got a Mac Pro a few months ago, and I've been going through keyboards like I were making a living testing keyboards. A little background into my needs/preferences: I'm a big gamer, heavy into World of Warcraft, and I like laptop style keys. The macbook pro keyboard was perfect, in my opnion.
This keyboard works perfectly with mac. No issues whatsoever. There's no software to worry about compatibility issues over, and no extra hotkeys. No frills! That's good! The backlighting is adjustable, and beautiful. I can't imagine anyone buying this computer if they were NOT looking for a keyboard with backlighting. Nice and bright. I like playing games in the dark, and this has really helped my game. I hate not being able to see the keyboard in the dark more than most things in life.
I find the keys nice and soft, like my hands glide across the board. I'd call them delicate, though I don't mean they aren't durable. Some people say the lettering wears off after a while, but I really don't see that being a problem even if it happens. One of the biggest complaints I read about this keyboard is the uneven lighting. Sure the backspace key reads Ba Spa, but what the heck else could Ba Spa mean? It isn't confusing at all, people are just nit-picking.
Recently I've played with the Razer tarantula, which I didn't like AT ALL for a number of reasons. I also played with Apple's new aluminum keyboards- both wired and wireless. I really don't like wireless mice or keyboards in general, and I rely on number pads, so the wireless really didn't do anything for me. The aluminum one however, feels great. I can type so quickly on that thing, and make very little, if any, mistakes. The Saitek strikes me just the same, performance wise. I've never taken anyone saying something like their fingers "glide across the keyboard" seriously, but that's exactly my experience. This this really kicks butt.
My ONLY complaint is that it doesn't have USB ports!
I'm looking forward to my Everglide DKTBoard coming in the mail next week. If the DKTBoard isn't any better than the Saitek Eclipse, then I have definitely found my favorite keyboard ever. Hands down. No, I haven't played with the logitech gaming keyboards.
Awesome backlit keyboard for cheap

Don't worry about having to turn the lights on to see! This keyboard is great with a 3-way lighting button... Bright, Normal, Off. I leave mine on the mid setting at all times, more than enough, while not distracting you.
Pros: Backlit keyboard that feels good to use that looks cool.
Cons: Buttons have a tendency to fade, so I'm told. Over a month now (when the fading starts) an no signs of wear at all. Some of the buttons are not fully lit... "Back space" appears "Ba sp" as the right side of both lines fade out. Minor issue for having such a cheap backlit keyboard. No "extra" buttons... shortcuts, media controls, etc
Despite the few pros vs several cons... this is an amazing keyboard. The pro is a BIG pro and cons are hardly noticeable. I have heard people say this keyboard is bigger than normal ones... not sure how, it replaced my old keyboard and fit EXACTLY where it was. Should it crap out on me, I WILL buy another as I now LOVE the back lit keyboard as my wife and I's bedroom is across the hall and this keeps us from keeping the other up at night with the room lights on.
Saitek Keyboard great but missing 1 feature...

Keyboard is great, lighting is not need during the day and actually makes it hard to see the keys (if you are looking when typing) so I tend to turn off the lighting during the daytime hours. Works great in the dark though. Great feel and nice soft sounding keys when you are typing.
Only drawback is there is NO volume control on the keyboard... other than that it is a great keyboard.
Great for small hands, cool Star Trek glow, and you won't need a task light to type at night

i just got this daitek illuminated keyboard 4 days ago it works great under any dark condition i dont have to use my lamp any more, the only problem is that the volume buttons dont work, i dont know why but other then that the keys are soft and not loud like most other keyboards so far its the best keyboard i ever had, now some other people stated that this is not a gaming keyboard its true it is NOT its just a regular keyboard with a little more "add-on" features and a nice design.
Saitek Eclipse Keyboard ( PZ30AU )

Excellent keyboard for the price- I thought that some of the backlit characters could be a little easier to read since I'm pretty much a two fingered typer, but I tend to go mainly by memory like someone who's an ACTUAL typist might....just a bit slower! The lighting is nice, since I use my PC in low light a good part of the time. Spacing of items is normal and the keys are easy to access without accidentally hitting any nearby ones like some keyboards can be. (especially laptops) I bought this sight unseen and I'm very happy with it!
keyboard failures when light is on!
2008-06-22
[...] When my keyboard started opening search windows all by itself! with the letters asd in them- I found it was a defect with the light- which is WHY I bought this keyboard. Their site's forum (see link above) had many instances of the same and other forms of freaking out. If you turn off the light- it stops this behavior- but when you reboot- it defaults back to the light on high (worst). I left my pc to reboot before going to bed and forgot about my problem and in the morning I heard error sounds- the keyboard had so many search windows opened- it took several minutes to close them all (had no group option?). Because I need lighted keys- I am now in search of a new keyboard. PS- gamers say keys rub off QUICKLY and Saitek just sends them new ones. BOTTOM LINE- IF you buy this keyboard- SAVE YOUR RECEIPT= chances are you will need it- if it happens within 2 years. My research says Eclipse II fixed erratic behavior but not keys wearing out. Please post reviews on your purchases- people like me depend on other's experiences! Thanks
