Not sturdy enough, they broke after 3 days of use!
2008-01-06
The concept is great, the bars are light and portable; and I liked the foam grips.
I thought the bars were excellent until one of them broke around the plastic jonction area, while I was doing some push-ups. I am not a big guy at all: 6'1 feet, 179 lbs.
Don't buy them. I noticed that the second bar was also about to break. I do recommend metal ones.
You can feel the difference.

You can really feel a difference between the muscles worked in a normal push up and when you do push ups using these stands. They may be made of PVC material but I don't find them flimsy at all. They arrive in pieces that you just slide together in a few minutes and your off exercising.
Light, plastic - and perfect

These do exactly what they should. I would just do regular press-ups but find that these cause wrist pain.
They are light, plastic, cheap (so can be lost without upset), can be very easily pulled apart for transport and put back together again. I bring them with me on my work travels so can at least do some exercise even if my hotel doesn't have a gym.
They don't come with any instructions for exercises, but you can of course use them for more than press-ups.
I'm glad I bought them, and would recommend them to anyone who gets pain in the their wrists when doing press-ups.
Now drop and give me 50!

These push-up bars are sturdy, light and YOU WILL DEFINITELY GET A BETTER WORKOUT THAN ORDINARY PUSH-UPS THAT YOU WILL FEEL AND SEE if you use them diligently, properly and don't over-train. I even take them on the road with me (unless I'm flying) because they're light and don't take up a lot of room in my gym bag.
Push-up bars bars like these are a necessary part of any home fitness equipment to give you greater range of motion (and therefore forcing you to recruit more muscles in your arms, chest and back) than ordinary push-ups. I bought my set in the spring of 2005 when I was rehabbing my body after cancer, chemo and radiation had kicked the crap out of me and I had lost over thirty pounds. With these guys and variations of grip (wide, neutral, semi-narrow), I had significantly increased my upper body strength and mass over all in a couple of months and was ready to hit the gym again.
The only drawback is that the foam padding is a tad skimpy which can get to be hard on the heels of your palms and wrists if you're doing multiple sets with high reps in a neutral position. I give these bars 5 stars for the price, the function they serve, and because they've held up nicely with fairly regular use over two years.
Addendum - 052408: It's been over three years now and they're still a staple of my home workout routine 2x a week. I do multiple sets to failure each set, so they get fairly rigorous use. Foam padding is holding up and no signs of wear and tear. I will say that if you're over 210 you might want to consider something heavier. But if you're in the 160 - 200 range (after cancer, when I first bought these - see above-, I was 147 lbs and am now 178), these should serve you just fine.

Being in the military I do a lot of pushups and this well help to improve my stats on my next physical test. I give this an offical "hooah" rating. Good stuff for anyone in the military!
Good value, may be better out there...

These are a good value for the money and should do the trick to improve your workouts. They really help take the strain off the wrists and are easy to put together and take apart for travel. However, I also own the Valeo ones and they are much better as far as sturdiness and are slightly angled toward the ground, allowing for more comfortable movement.
Good value

These are just what I wanted. Even though they are plastic, they preform well. Lightweight plastic means they also travel well. Good buy.
push-up bars

This is a basic, but good product. Essentially, it is a hardened molded plastic with foam pieces over the grips where your hands will be placed. If you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, or CTS symptoms, this will certainly help with your push-up routine while minimizing the chance of exacerbating any wrist related pathology. For the price, you can't go wrong.
Sturdier than I expected them

They're pretty sturdy (they don't feel unstable at all) and I love the fact that they're detachable, in case I decide to move them around in tiny spaces a lot. The handles are very comfortable too. Great for regular push-ups as well as chest push-ups (just twist the bars around).
Excellent workout

These bars are a great addition to my workouts. They provide a much better range of motion, and I don't have problems with them trying to slide across the carpet like my hands used to
