Black Belt??
2007-01-09
I wasn't expecting a real high quality Gi, so I was not surprised that the material used was rather flimsy. I WAS surprised that the seams were strong! This outfit also washes and dries well and there was minimal shrinkage. My daughter is big for her age and has a muscular build, so the outfit is slightly snug when she first puts in on. It would be nice if the company offered the next size up so she would be more comfortable. The only complaint I have is the black belt. I realize this is just a toy, but in martial arts, a black belt must be earned. Getting a Gi with a black belt included does not automatically make someone a black belt. One of the reasons I bought this outfit (along with the Home Karate Studio) was to try to determine my daughter's interest in learning karate. Her first karate lesson has already occurred. It was a lesson about degrees and what the belt colors signify. This outfit should come with a white belt and perhaps include information about belt colors. That would make this product not only a fun costume, but also somewhat of a learning toy.
Nothing more than a halloween worthy costume.

If you want to do something nice for your kid enroll them into a real martial arts class. They will learn alot more from it than wearing this around the house or while playing Mortal Kombat 7 on their ps3 or xbox360. Telling them they are a master just by tying this cheap black belt on is a insult. If it was meant as just a toy or costume there is no real harm done but thats not the case here.
As A kid I rember watching the karate kid and stuff and how stupid I acted after watching it. Trust me giving a young kid this is just asking for trouble. Get them into a real martial arts class it will help them more than you could Imagine.
As for how well this is made its very cheap thin and flimsy not much better than a childs halloween ninja costume.
