Editorial Review
Powered by D-Link 108G Technology, this High-Powered Desktop Adapter is capable of delivering a maximum wireless signal rate of up to 108Mbps when used with other D-Link Wireless 108G devices. The DWL-G550 is also backward compatible with virtually all 802.11b/g networks and devices. The high-powered output featured on the DWL-G550 offers extended wireless signal reception while adhering to industry standards. Higher output power allows this client device to receive and maintain strong signals from wireless routers and access points at further distances.

Installed & Connected 2008-01-24
Bought this for an older XP desktop upstairs. Little confusion from Quick Start Guide and Installation Manual. Quick Start says to install PCI card before drivers, Install Manual says the opposite, but I figured it all out. Then trying to find my network was a little exploration, but you have to use the D-Link Client, not Windows. All in all, it works, signal's strong and no wires to snake downstairs. Just wonder what'll happen if I replace desktop with a Vista machine.

Great card 2008-01-22
I live in a big old farm house that has two foot thick plaster walls that i can't even get a cell phone signal through. I tried the Netgear WG311 v3 and would continually drop connection. Even when connected i would only have two bars lit up at most. With this new card, i have full signal anywhere i go. This card is truly great.

Everything it claims to be 2008-01-21
They aren't kidding when they say 'High-Powered.'
Replacing my cheapo adapter with this D-Link has increased
average signal strength from about 12%-30% to over 88%,
and two to three APs found to as many as 16.
D-Link also provides an antenna wire of about 5 feet;
most others I've seen are only around 18 inches long.

In addition, it works under Windows Vista, which my previous
adapter did not; both do fine under XP however.
This may be worth considering for anyone using XP and
Vista on the same machine.

Sure, it costs more than a $15 no-name device, but those
cheapos can't come near the actual performance this one
provides.

Great Wireless Card 2008-01-02
This card installed easily in a new Vista Media PC I built. Performance is as promised, with strong signal to router about 50 ft away through wall and floor.

nice range 2007-11-02
Adapter has pretty good range. It installed without any problems on windows XP. Downloaded new drivers. It picked up several more wireless networks than before with laptop wireless card. Sometimes adapter will connect at 11mbps when it could connect at higher speed. After a few seconds it will connect at 54mbps.

Picks up signals from the moon 2008-07-17
Installs quickly and easily. This was on a system that was on the extreme far corner of the house from the base/router. Before, I could not see the base from this machine. Afterwards with this card and the external antenna on the floor behind the PC I pick up the wireless LAN effortlessly. If I raise the antenna high above the PC I get my LAN, my neighbor's LAN, my neighbor's neighbor's LAN... and these are widely spaced houses on a rugged hillside. Works for me.

D-Link G550 expected more 2008-06-23
It was to my surprise that I only got a poor signal from the D-Link G550 Wireless Adapter specially after all the reviews I read about it. My laptop pc that was right next to the antenna received a "very good" signal. So the problem had to be with the D-Link. and changing the position or direction of the antenna had absolutely no effect on the signal range.
Other than that the adapter and cd installation was smooth even with vista.

a BEAST 2008-05-22
I replaced a Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter WMP300N with this unit - upon scanning there were over two dozen more visible wireless networks with the D-Link than with the former unit - I connected to open networks that the Linksys couldn't even detect. The configuration utility is simple to use and responds quickly to changes. The antenna is a bit light and it fell off my desk while I was screwing it into the case. I highly recommend.

Excellent product 2008-03-30
This device works flawlessly with my D-Link DGL-4300 wireless gaming router. I use it mainly for my living room PC which doesn't do a whole lot, but these two devices get the job done! I don't have much technical info for you, but if you are looking for a good and reliable setup, this device along with the DGL-4300 are the best solution IMO. I have tons of issues with Linksys, especially their client software which is just hideous, which is why I researched and switched to this combination. You can't go wrong with these two!

Doesn't Work with older Operating Systems 2008-02-27
I tried to use this with an Older computer that I have, which is running Windows ME. I know Windows ME sucks, but it also gives you a hard time when you try to upgrade. This is a second computer in my basement so it isn't worth the trouble. Anyway, check out which operating systems it will work with before you buy this product. I had to return it.
