Why 59

I have bought Stabilia levels exclusively for the last 20 yrs. I have most of the sizes from 78" down. I am a tile contractor, and I believe that the 59" was designed for working on tiled bathtub enclosures. Bath tub flanges or lips are notorious for curving up in the corners a 48" level won't give you a true read but the 59 is perfect. Thanks for that idea Stabilia! Your levels are tops! Joe

A nice pair

I have owned Stabila levels in the past. The reason I ordered new ones is that they have been "lost." I like the improvements. Especially the way the end cap can be removed. They easily click in and out. With my old Stabila I had to pick at it and the eventually broke and were useless. I see that you can order new ones (caps) now and that's nice as well. Also keep in mind that set that I received both have different finish types. The 24" has a milled edge while the 59" does not. Not an issue for me but it may be for some.

Additionally I can add that these are very durable. The box that UPS delivered them in looked as if it were hit by a train. I checked them with my straight edge and they are perfect after their adventure.

I am joining the ranks of those who have given these levels 5 stars. Unquestionably the best levels on the market. I only needed the 24", but I got both because it's only about $30 more for the 59". The 59" is a nice level, and because the straps continue across the center vial, it is noticeably more rigid than the 48". I'm not sure why they powder coat the top and bottom of the 59", (up to 48 are milled aluminum) but it still seems fairly flat.
These levels read true no matter what the temperature change, and that is one of the great things about them. I have gone through dozens of cheaper levels that I bought trying to save money, and then I still had to go buy the premium product. Save yourself some money and buy the best to begin with!

We bought this set for building a deck and we found that both sizes were very usefull in the project. They are very high quaility and sturdy - will last forever.

Even Better Than Before

The construction on these is superb and they mean it when they say non-marring. I have always used cheaper levels, having to flip them end to end to double check measurements and finally got too frustrated and splurged. I don't regret it one bit. I purchased the 16"/48" set and have come up short a few times though, so this new longer set sure would be nice.

59" is weird, but what a smart idea!

When I first saw this level in Amazon.com catalog, I thought it was a misprint. I mean who buys a 59" level, what design engineer suggested this? Well I bought the set since I have most of the other Stabila levels and it was offered at a great sale price of $99 for the set. Once I got this set, I discovered WHY the 59". FIrst of all, it spans 4 studs (on 16's), and have you noticed how big windows are nowadays? It's not like the old double hung windows, you need a 5' level (59" so it fits in a 5' opening). This level is comfortable to use because it is within your arm span and not over your height. If it were longer, it would be bouncing off headers and other openings as you walk though the job. It is the right length and has replaced my 4' Stabila as my "default" level. I grab the 59" level first and use it the most. Kudo's to that ballzy German engineer who brought this idea to the boss.
