Don't Get What You Buy
2008-04-14
You don't get what you buy in this photo, which is really weird in my opinion. So part of my rating is that.
Otherwise, it's a decent tool. I doubt it works too well, and I doubt it is terribly accurate. Gets the job done with the ease that a normal stick tool can't do.
Great little device

So far this gauge has been extremely accurate. I used a standard tire gauge and this one for the first several measurements and got the same readings from both. So much easier to read that I'll never go back!!
Amazon shipped the older model?

The one Amazon shipped does not look like the picture, it's the long thin one with tiny red LED. Got it reshipped and still the same tiny red LED one and not the one in the picture.
Started fine, Now I'm stuck with a novelty paperweight

I'm religious about my tire pressure. I keep a pressure gauge in each of my vehicles, along with a manual tire pump. Moreover, I know what to look for with devices like this, and all my experience told me this one looked like a winner when I decided to purchase it.
First thing I notices was difficulty in seating it on the valve stem. I lost 5 psi. before I got a complete measurement. I could have gotten used to that, but...
After about two days of using this product, it had a change of heart, deciding that all my tires, on all my cars, had 28.5 psi. No car of mine keeps pressure that low, so I let it shut down and tried it again a few times with the same 28.5 psi result.
Now I have nailed it up on my "wall of shame" of all the cheaply-made and low-quality car accessories I have come across.
My recommendation: take a pass on this item, and buy one of the generic $7 ones from your local dept. store auto section. I bought one of these two years ago and have used it on a weekly basis ever since with great results.
Your experience may be different, but mine doesn't work correctly.
Didn't last long
2008-01-05
Very light weight and seemed to work great. Best I could tell it was extremely accurate. I tend to check my tires every month. The fourth time I used it the digital read-out showed only a partial line immediately after use which went out. After several attempts to repeat I thought it might be the batteries. I found out it takes 3 cell (watch) type batteries. I spun them around and tried again. Same result. I replaced the batteries (cost as much as the instrument) and it still doesn't work. I realize that 8 bucks or so isn't much but still, there is no reason to throw away money on something that won't last very long.
Works Fine, Great Price

I purchased this for my Mom as part of a car safety kit that I put together for her and it works just fine. Upon receipt I tested it for accuracy with my older electronic gauge in addition to my manual gauge and it's very accurate. It has a good grip and the angled design allows the thumb to place adequate pressure behind the gauge screen to get a good seal and an accurate reading. I will grant that it's been 6-7 months since the unit was purchased, so this review does not take into consideration the product's battery life other than to say that it's still working after 6-7 months. If the thing dies and I consider it to be premature then I'll return and add to this review.
However, the most enjoyable aspect of this product has been reading some of the reviews. As previous reviewers have pointed out, some of our fellow reviewers failed to remove the sticker with the 28.5 reading and mistakenly thought the product was broken. The value of this gift went up considerably with the amount of laughs we got with giving it and using it. Of course I stuck the 28.5 sticker back on the screen to see if my Mom would notice when I insisted she test it in our driveway. Thankfully she did.
Accutire Digital Tire Gauge
2008-05-28
I've owned one of these for a couple of years. Because I am middle aged and my eyesight isn't what it used to be, the cheap analog tire gauges are difficult, if not nearly impossible for me to read. This is not the case with the Accutire. The bright LED readout is large and easy to read. I would highly recommend it for the visually compromised.
I've had this darn thing for at least 5 years

And he still works. That's just not right.
I need torture to function & whine.
Now this guy is a riot>>>

Simple to operate and works great

Well, simple to operate is spot on. However, I am not 100% sure yet about its accuracy.
