Not functional

I have a 160gb ipod and using it with this devise is very slow. If you have to go to the letter "R" for example is better to disconnect it and select the song manually and reconnect. The good thing is that you get very good sound quality.
Effective but Clunky

I got the KCA-iP500 to play my iPhone in the car on my existing Kenwood stereo unit. For the most part the sound quality is great. The hook up is relatively easy if you know how to remove the dashboard on your car. you literally plug and play. The cord is long too which makes it ideal for phone calls while driving. The ring tone even plays through the stereo when you receive a call.
I subtracted two stars for very poor controls. The controls are fine if you just have a big lump of songs in one playlist. But getting to the song you want with many playlists is close to impossible. To make matters worse, you cannot control the iPhone directly while it is connected. A message pops up on the screen that says a device is connected. You can still control all the other features of the iPhone like Maps, Camera and Phone. But the iPod application is locked into the system while connected. Whether this is Kenwood's fault or Apple's I'm not sure, but it's very annoying. It's also difficult to control audio books. If you advance a track by accident it restarts the book and you have to disconnect it and search for where you left off.
Bottom line: Great product (and one of the only products) for connecting and charging the iPhone with little to no interference. Bad product in terms of interface and controls.
how to buy it

Its a good product, but its no good for the KVT819DVD, dont show all the functions of the ipod, this radio only needs the KAC I300, because you can use the USB for conect the ipod...
Very good

Works As Intended

Accesses not only your albums but your playlists as well. Can search by artist, album, playlist, purchased. And charges while you listen.
Works Great On The Ipod Touch 16gb
2008-05-18
I was very skeptical about this producting working on my KDC-MP4032 system, but it worked perfect on the ipod touch. Took me about 20 minutes to hook up. The cords are pretty long in my Honda Accord but that was not a problem. The only areas i could not use on the touch where the video and music section. The equalizer on the touch worked together with the system. I could not find any cons. Great product.
Don't buy

This item is the worst.....
You can control your ipod from your headunit on DPX302 but to get from A-Z on your ipod you have to go one by one....this is crazy.
You can not use the ipod to go from one ablum to another because the only thing on the ipod screen is KENWOOD.....this item is the worst!
I also called Kenwood and was told this is the way the model is!!!!!
Somewhat Dissapointed
2008-05-04
Although I realized it was an interface for the headunit, I didn't expect to be so limited with my control. It was rather disappointing. It was very difficult to control anything via headunit and I found myself spending hours searching for a song. Eventually I found it easiest to select a playlist before hand and then just plug it in from there. The interface then resumes the song to whatever it was playing onto the headunit. This was the only real way to control what I was listening to. The only real thing I liked about it was the fact that the volume didn't fluctuate as with aux inputs do. I also liked the fact that it charged the ipod. Other than these two reasons, I would stick to an RCA to AUX setup with a car charger or if you dont need your ipod charged as often, RCA to ipod.
Does no charge the Touch
2008-04-08
I have had this along with the Garmin/ Kenwood nav for my double-din since it was released. It seems to not charge with the Touch although it does play.
It works but really sucks that it's such a pain to navigate playlists. I know they want to keep selling new units but I really wish they would come out with some kind of software update or something
