Editorial Review
The Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote puts you in control of your entire audio-video system with just one button. It's home entertainment the way it should be - simple. Optimized for complicated HDTV and PVR systems, the Harmony 880 helps you tame tough configurations like switching your television between video aspect ratios depending on the program source. The interactive color display lets you quickly choose a 16: 9 ratio for movies and HDTV, or a standard 4: 3 ratio for basic television programming.

the former one broke and replaced it with the same model! 2008-07-26
with today's need to have so many applicanes to create the home theatre effect (that is my husband's job) and then there is me, the wife who is technology challenged: the harmony is easy to set up to capture almost all appliances we have and for me - I just press one botton to get to each application (dvd, blueray, music, watch tv). the 'help' button is very useful too ... a little help desk feature. Just remember to point at the applcances when you press the buttons (I tend to move the remote away too quicky and sometimes one piece of the applicance does not switch on/off - but there is always the help button). our older one broke (my fault!) and it was no brainer to replace it with the same one. I love it and so will many wives who has a husband who like his gadgets.

Cons
cant do RF, althugh the 890 model does this and it would be good to have bluetooth to do the playstation 3.

The Best 2008-07-24
The Harmony 880 is one of the best remotes I have ever used. It is simple to operate and easy to install all your devices that require a remote , including the ceiling fan.

Harmony 880 2008-07-21
The 880 is very easy to setup and program. I have several devices and multiple activities and so far the remote controls everything to my satisfaction. I should note that I'm currently using a replacement due to a malfunction with my original. I called customer service at Logitech and after some troubleshooting they shipped a new remote within about a week.

My second Harmony programmable remote 2008-07-18
My first unit died after about two years of service. It worked good enough to bring me back for more. The 880 is a very good unit with a bright color display. The display darkens quickly to save the battery life but comes back as soon as you pick up and move the unit. The charging cradle has a light so you can easily find it in a darkened room.

Programming is straightforward, but somewhat lengthy, especially when working out the custom, programmable buttons. If you've never done this before and want to get it exactly right, it will take several trials, but the programming software remembers everything so it's just a matter of experimenting and tweaking. The default suggestions for the programmable buttons for each activity you want to program are, in my opinion, pretty lame, but they are easy to change. with presistance, you can make it exactly right for you.

My biggest complaint about this particular unit is the design of the buttons. Too many of the hardwired buttons are not button-shaped at all. Important buttons like volume and channel are ridges on the surface. The 0-9 numerics are too small. The eight custom buttons are also ridges. The design is too stylish and not functional enough, but you're fingers will get mostly use to it. My previous unit also suffered from poor ergonomics.

Very handy device 2008-07-16
This device does what it is supposed to do. I purchased it mainly to replace several remotes and it does a good job of controlling all of my devices. You have to be sure to use it every time you turn the devices on and off or it gets confused and you have to go through an easy procedure to straighten everything out.

A couple of complaints are that the writing on the buttons is very tiny and the device doesn't light up well in a dark room. The color screen is good and bright, but the other controls aren't.

Sucked, returned 2008-07-15

easy to use 2008-07-15
Easy to use, and so far has been universal for every electronic gadget we've tried it on. Takes a while to program, but once you do, it's pretty effortless to maintain and use.

Logitech Harmony 880 Universal Remote 2008-07-14
I have used Logitech wireless keyboards and mice for several years and always been very pleased. The Harmony 880 is no exception. It is very user friendly and easy to set up. I had to call user help to work out a couple of issues with my individual set up. They were extremely courteous and helpful and resolved the issues quickly. I highly recommend this unit.

The one remote to bind them all. 2008-07-11
I didn't expect this thing to live up to the hype. I thought paying this much for a remote was ridiculous. I thought it would be cumbersome...

Let me tell you. It *IS* worth all the hype.

You know how you get a universal remote and it just doesn't do EVERYTHING that the original remote does? It doesn't have all the proper keys, or the keys it does have don't preform the action you want it to... Or your wife still prefers the cable box remote to the so called "universal" remote and eschews it for that one.

So you end up with a caddy full of remotes even with the universal.

This? This is the END to all of that. I have no other remote now but this one. They all live in a basket in a bin in my entertainment console. Let me tell you why.

You can program ANY remote into this. The web interface has every brand of equipment I have, and then some. You simply tell the interface what you have, and how you use it. You can build activities that you then tell it "Ok, this is on channel 2 and the stereo is on cable and the ... (blah blah blah)" so that you push ONE button to watch tv. And one button to watch a DVD.

So: Pluses

Easy to set up web interface
WIDE amount of different drivers for all kinds of equipment.
Ability to learn remotes it doesn't already have.
Compact
Uses rechargeable batteries, and has it's own charging stand.
Fairly intuitive controls.
Great on board help system.

Minuses:
Keys on the remote are a bit small and close together.
Charging contacts corrode. (This is a common problem for me with logitech devices.)

If you get the chance, pick one up. All of my friends are terribly jealous of mine now, and want one of their own. With the availability of the Harmony One and other Harmony remotes the prices on these have dropped dramatically, so why even hesitate?

Quirky, But Solid Performer 2008-07-10
Don't get me wrong -- this remote has a lot to offer as a MOR control. I quite enjoy how sequences of button presses are organized into "activities". This allows for a low learning curve when introducing new visitors or the girlfriend to your entertainment system.

The software interface for programming the remote is easy to understand, straight-forward, and actually does what its intended to do (could you imagine if M$ started programming remote control apps?).

These two strengths aside, let me shortly list my qualms with this remote control:

- Dropping it on the floor will wear out the sensitivity of the gyro in the remote (which turns the backlight on on the LCD when you pick up the remote).

- The charging station's contacts with the back of the remote are touch-and-go. As in, you have to find the "sweet spot" in the charger when you place the remote on it, or it just won't charge.

- If the remote is operating on low power, it becomes increasingly difficult for it to successfully beam commands to each of your devices. This becomes frustrating because you have to correct this with the remote's HELP feature (it corrects activity sequences when, say, you press "Watch TV" and the TV doesn't come on).

- If you don't play by the remote's rules, you'll get frustrated with all the steps you have to take to correct "Activities" gone awry. Say you have your TV and an amp on. If you push the off button physically on your amp, then try to use the remote to turn off the other devices, the next time you try to activate that activity, the amp won't come on and the sequence is messed up. Then you endlessly spend time correcting this with HELP.
