HDMI port failure
2008-12-04
I've had this TV for about 2 years. Picture quality has been fair compared to my Plasma TV. Tonight, following minimal manipulation of the HDMI cable, the HDMI port failed. Examining the port, it is clear that there is not enough support for the cable to prevent cable movement damaging the HDMI port. In my opinion, this is clearly a design flaw.
Samsung LN-R328W HDMI port failure
2007-10-01
I have purchased 2 LN-R328W units at the same time and had both wall mounted by the seller, Best Buy. At approximately 16 months BOTH units developed the same problem. The HDMI ports failed, apparently becoming loose inside the unit, thereby making a good HDMI connection impossible. Since the units were more than twelve months old, after many calls, Samsung decided to do nothing to help with the problem other than suggest I pay for the repairs. They do not recognize this as a design defect. This is a fair warning on two points: 1) After 12 months, you may receive NO HELP from Samsung. If you want your product to function and be supported longer, you may want to consider another brand; 2) At least based on my experience, this model seems to have a propensity to have HDMI port failures. Best bang for your buck!! Samsung!!!

I purchased this television used for $650 from a local seller because I purchased a PS3 a few months ago and I have to tell you that I am addicted to this beautiful television.
I have my computer, PS3, and HD cable box connected to this 32" screen, but I could not be happier. While it is a tad too big for a monitor, the resolution is amazingly clear, especially watching Prison Break and 24 in HD =)
I did not want to pick up an American brand because I've usually had bad experiences, and I am pleased with Samsung. While I am not able to afford top-notch brands like Sony, Samsung is much affordable and offers great quality for the money.
I would recommend this to anyone without hesitation. The only drawback is having all the inputs in the back. I wish they could have engineered it to include HDMI or cable inputs on the side.
Bought an AOC instead....love it!

Not one problem with my AOC monitor. Loooove it! I cannot rate this without buying it, so the rating is not accurate. But I did look at it. Decided on the AOC.
Greaaaaaaaaat

I was sold on this lcd due mainly to the unbelievable 3000-1 contrast ratio surpassing anything I could find in this price range. I am thrilled with the picture quality particularly in H\D, but I have found most regular programming to be near H\D quality...Maybe it's my particular cable system. The only drawback for me was that there were not enough component inputs for my needs, but I solved this by purchasing a component switch box at short money which added 4 inputs. I researched extensively before this purchase and by my standards this is the best out there. A. Lee Enz aka George Burgess

Slim, light and beautiful, Samsung's LCD Flat Panel Television combines sleek looks and high performance. This HDTV-ready, widescreen television set lets you enjoy regular television and displays HDTV images from any High-Definition source. Samsung's Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) screen provides high contrast and brightness for lifelike images with realistic colors. A particularly unique feature on this TV is the screen's very fast 12 milliseconds response time for fast imaging - very useful when using this TV for playing video games. Its high contrast ratio and brightness deliver sharp, defined, color images up to 1366x768 resolution, perfect for HDTV display. In addition, you can also use this TV as a monitor with your PC. I just recently purchased a refurbished Samsung LN-R328W. As of one week in with the TV I am completely satisfied. Picture with digital cable is quite good, but no one buys this model for standard picture. This TV really comes into its own with its HD picture. I was hesitant to buy a refurbished model, but for the amount of money I spend I would have only been able to get a Polaroid or Westinghouse 27-inch. The Samsung is far better than both of these brands, but lacks a build in HD tuner.
Here is the way I see it.
Pros: Remarkable HD picture, perfect size for my living room (12x25), excellent DVD(PS2) picture with component cables, Samsung reliability, and various picture settings to adjust for whatever you want to watch.
Cons: The speakers are very soft and not very loud. They produce good quality sound, but lack the volume and depth to match the picture quality, PIP requires two seperate inputs (shouldn't be a promblem though with a digital cable box, which comes with built in PIP), lackluster picture with analog signals. Finally, this TV has become my addiction, I can't get enough of its HD picture, "I needs it, I wants it".
I would highly recommend this model for anyone searching for their first LCD HDTV. I did two months of research and you aren't going to find much better than this for the price. More recent Samsung models come with 2 HDMI inputs, but I don't use my TV for computing. Enjoy!
Great HDTV

I brought this for my parents this past christmas. Everytime I visit, it is still working great. Because it has so many inputs, they have a cable box, DVD player, DVD recorder, and a VCR hooked up to the TV. HD channels comes in so crisp, it looks almost 3-D. Non-HD channels look average (which is what you would expect). Playback from a progressive DVD player, especially with newer digitalized movies look fantastic. One draw back is that the Picture-in-Picture function only works when one of the inputs is the HDMI input. Another minor draw back is that there is only one HDMI connection. It would have been great if there were 2.
Awesome TV for PC, DVDs, PS2 and soon PS3

I bought this TV in January 2006 after months and months of looking and comparing. Bottomline is this LCD is truly awesome as a computer monitor; I use UXGA cable to connect to my tower and at 1360x768 it looks better then HDTV. When I play Madden 06 I feel like I'm in the game because lets face it, A great graphics card blows away any console.
For DVD movies it is great just hooking up through component but if you buy one of those new Samsung HDMI DVD Players that look real sexy with the TV (I'm talking about the HD860, HD960, and HD1080) then you get some awesome quality at 720p or 1080i.
PS2 needs to be hooked up through component or it looks really bad but with component its pretty sweet. In GTA you can CLEARLY read the health and all that stuff in the corner. When PS3 comes out with HDMI, now thats gonna be freakin awesome.
Now for just watching television, you have to get one of those high def cable boxes with an HDMI output because lets face it, if you hook it up from the wall to the TV, it looks like crap. That s the same on all flat-panel so if you're gonna get one, get the darn HDMI or at least component cable box. As for the speakers, there not bad, just standard quality, if you need blasting sound buy the BOSE or something for a thousand bucks but for me, the regular speakers are more then fine.
In the end this TV is awesome, blows away anything else out there. The only thing I would do if I was buying one right now is I would wait for the new Samsung LCDs to come out with Dual HDMIs because in a few years everything is gonna need HDMI so I wish I had gotten one of those but at the time I just couldn't wait.
Great for HDTV, perfect for XBOX 360

I picked this TV up a few days ago and am very pleased with it.
I recommend the first thing you do once you get this set is to optimize the picture, which will be helped greatly with the use of the THX optimizer found on many DVD's such as Signs, Finding Nemo, or Star Wars DVD's. Also, make sure the auto brightness and auto contrast settings are disabled. The picture out of the box can be pretty bad on non-hd cable TV channels and quite disappointing on some DVD's.
Also, make sure you enable progressive scan on your DVD player.
For the new XBOX 360, this set is incredible. Apparently, this is the TV Microsoft uses to demonstrate the new console.
This set beats other brands at the similar pricepoint. One thing that makes a difference is that it supports HDMI and has 2 component inputs, plus VGA input.
