Editorial Review
The Cozy Legs CL-R radiant panel helps you reduce office heating costs by providing efficient, low-energy heat right where it's needed. The low-profile unit can be mounted directly to a desk or table, or you can use the optional stand (not included) for full portability. The CL-R is safe, too: with no exposed heating coils, the unit is never too hot to touch. Plus, it releases no carbon monoxide. A Hi-Lo switch is also available for convenient heat control (sold separately). ETL listed.--Josh Dettweiler

Five Tips for Buying a Heater
Choosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier.

What are the different types of space heaters?

Should I buy an electric or a combustion model?
If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips.

How powerful a heater do I need?
Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:

The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.

Do space heaters cost a lot to operate?
As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient.

Are space heaters a fire hazard?
Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.

not so radiant heater 2007-12-29
I bought this heater to heat my lovebird, without using a lot of energy or creating a fire hazard. In order for my bird to be warmed by it, it would have had to be within an inch of the heater, or pressed up against it.

COZY LEGS RADIANT HEATER 2007-12-04
We purchased this radiant heater for safe and steady warmth for Rusty, our 18 year-old cat. We have been using it for several weeks, and have found it to be satisfactory thus far. Rusty appears to be enjoying it, as he spends almost the entire day in his bed in front of it. We can reduce the heat output from the furnace at night, knowing that Rusty will still be comfortable.

Not worth it... 2007-02-28
I was looking for a low watt heater. That's what I chose the Cozy Legs Radiant Heat Panel. I had to return it: only when in direct contact to its surface could I feel any warmth. I purchased instead the Newair AH-400 Space Heater (400 watt) which does a good job

Cozy Legs 2007-01-16
You certainly don't have to worry about getting burnt. It puts out a little warmth but not a lot. I live where it doesn't get extra cold. If you live back East where it gets really cold, I don't think this would do the trick for you.

Barely puts out heat 2007-01-11
It delivers what is advertised, but few people (including myself) actually realize how much heat 100W is.

It basically takes a 100W light bulb and spreads the energy across a 3x2 ft panel. It will raise the temp under your desk a degree or two, but if you are expecting "radiant" heat, you need to look elsewhere.

Nice Bird Heater 2008-04-09
Bought for my bird. $40 cheaper than a similar heater marketed for birds. Raises cage temp a couple of degrees, provides nice radiant heat to back of cage. Seems very well constructed. Perfect if you like to keep your house a little cooler than bird likes. If you want to heat a room, this won't work! The stand fits and grips the panel well, and is very sturdy.

Not Worth It! 2008-02-11
The Cozy Legs Radiant Heat Panel was nothing what I expected it to be. It did not throw any heat at all. You had to practically be up against it to feel any heat. I could touch it and feel very little warmth. It was a disappointment and I returned it.

Frozy legs -- it's for the birds 2008-02-09
Cozy Legs is a tidy, lightweight panel that produced no perceptible heat at a distance of 12-inches. It was placed under a built-in desk that is completely enclosed on five sides (left, right, back, top, and floor). This was the ideal situation for the panel to show its effectiveness. It is simply too underpowered.

Some raters liked the panel as a heater for their pet birds. It may be suitable for that, if you can get it right up against the cage and the ambient room temperature is within a couple of degrees of what's ideal for the birds.

Lastly, for some odd reason, Amazon shipped this item in a box that was large enough to hold two dozen panels. Was this to discourage sending the wimpy warmer back? This was an expensive learning experience.

Cozy Legs 2008-01-28
The product functions as intended and is good for those who do not have the wattage to run a heater with a blower. Users tend to prefer the air moving the heat across them, rather than the radiant. However, the fact this will not start fires and is better for the electrical grid is highly significant.

Works 2008-01-12
Although the heat panel works, it doesn't emit much heat.. If the area is drafty, the moving air would/will take your heat away. If you have a desk sealed on three sides, it would work best. It would be much better than a space heater in that instance.
