Norelco 8140XL Shaver

I have been delighted with this shaver. I have used Norelco shavers for the last 50 years. This is the best of the lot. It gives a close smooth shave; it's fast and quiet. It holds it's charge for a remarkable length of time. I have been using it every morning for the last two and a half weeks and have yet to re-charge it. This is a winner!!

I recently bought my husband the Norelco 8140XL because his Norelco 6885XL bit the dust. We bought the 8140XL based on customer reviews. Since using his new shaver, he has mentioned many times, "My 8140XL is, by far, the best shaver I have ever used". His face feels like a baby's behind in no time at all. His 8140 XL gives him the fastest and smoothest shave he has ever had. There is no razor burn. He actually looks forward to shaving in the morning. His only complaint is that the shaver is so light weight he has to concentrate on holding it tighter, so he does not throw or drop it.
My husband received his first Norelco shaver as a Christmas present 45 years ago. Before that he used various shavers that never came close to his first Norelco. He always says, "I will never buy anything but a Norelco". It appears Norelco is still #1 with him.
Poor shave

I had owned a Norelco rotary shaver years ago (1970s) and it worked well; eventually the battery would not take a charge (rechargeables back then were always having this problem). I replaced it with a regular (non-rotary) rechargeable electric razor. When that one finally died, I tried a Norelco rotary again--and it would not give me a good shave and I returned it. I went through a few more non-rotary electric razors since then, usually Remington models and one Braun (the latter was really nice, but expensive and also expensive to maintain as it was one of the self-cleaning models and the cleaning solution was expensive and never lasted quite as long as they claimed). My current razor, a Remington non-rotary has seen better days so I decided to get a new one and tried this Norelco rotary. Big mistake (I should have learned from my last Norelco rotary shaver experience!). I have a tough beard but VERY sensitive skin. I could not get a close shave with this shaver. I had to keep going over the same area multiple times and it still did not shave as well as the old Remington model (which has not had the blades replaced in over a year). Now I'm stuck with this piece of junk, since Amazon doesn't take back opened merchandise.
Gran afeitadora !! 2008-07-22
Tras 15 años de fieles y diarios servicios, decidí reemplazar mi antigua Philishave 715.
Luego de una pequeña investigación, me decidí por este modelo considerando que presenta un buen equilibrio entre precio y prestaciones.
PROS:
Produce una excelente afeitada en corto tiempo.
Es liviana, silenciosa y de fácil manejo.
Buena duración de la batería.
Puede usarse con o sin el cable de conexión eléctrica.
CONS:
Creo que el diseño del sistema de recarga debe pensarse mejor:
1) Tanto la plataforma como el mecanismo mediante el cual se apoya la máquina en dicha plataforma no parecen muy resistentes.
2) Para un funcionamiento más inteligente, la recarga debería funcionar automáticamente al detectar que la batería llega a un nivel bajo de carga. Así se podría tener la plataforma conectada permanentemente al enchufe y colocar siempre la afeitadora en su plataforma cuando no está en uso. Actualmente, y por sugerencia del fabricante, es el usuario el que debe administrar el proceso de recarga "cuando la batería esta cerca de agotarse".¡¡Solo que el equipo no tiene ningún indicador para saber el estado de carga de la bateria y, por lo general, simplemente nos enteramos porque la afeitadora se detiene en medio de una afeitada !!
It works very good 2008-07-20
I bought it for my husband and he said that It works very well, charge lasts a long time. But he wish it had more power like his old Norelco shaver.
Very good Shaver 2008-07-17
This shaver works very well, and has a very long battery life before you have to recharge. Cuts very smooth, and is easy to clean. No complaints, I have always been happy with Philips shavers.
Norelco is my standard razor..... 2008-07-16
I purchased this Phillips Norelco razor after using my last one for 5 years. I've been using Norelco nearly all my life, and haven't found a better razor. My last razor needed a new head, but rather than replace it, I just decided to update my razor. Norelco has always given me a clean, smooth shave. I have never cut myself, and only had a few minor rashes. I just can't imagine a better, easier shave.
