I ordered this for my son because it said it was compatible with Mac OS X, which is his primary computer. It install fine, but none of the menus on the startup page work, so you have no idea what you're doing. Then, I come to find out that Warbirds 2006 is available for download from their website. WB 2006 is ok, but it still runs pretty slow on our Mac mini with OS X 10.4.8. Plus, you'll probably want to get the Thrustmaster joystick that they recommend. We have a Logitech Attack3 and, even though we have programmed the buttons, Warbirds doesn't recognize them correctly at the numbers specified.
The 2006 PC version is definitely faster and more compatible with the Attack3 joystick. However, I haven't been able to get it to work on Windows XP Professional once I do the "mandatory update". The updated version seems to run ok on Windows 2000 Professional though (luckily, I have a partitioned hard drive with both systems installed).
Long story short, I bought both Warbirds III and then Warbirds 2006 because I didn't want my son tying up my PC. But, he still spends more time playing on the PC than on his Mac because any version of this software runs better on the PC. So, for a Mac user, I definitely wouldn't recommend this software unless you just can't find anything else. It's really hard to believe it's the "#1 Flight Combat Sim"... Anyway, if you are on a PC, it's ok -- but another game called Sky Aces is a lot more fun and has a much shorter learning curve right off the bat. If you have young kids, I would go with something like that instead of Warbirds.
