worth seeking out in the stores

The bad is that the toy bar comes off very easily... it's quite sensitive. My daughter was in it from day one to about 2 months and it accomadated her different ages/phases/sizes fairly well. Not the greatest "hold" for a newborn (the contour) but seriously, what is? Like every baby chair before it, she fit better when she grew bigger. The vibration is the best I've seen in any chair model and the music is both soothing and upbeat and (thank you god) not annoying like most kids things. My toddler is also enchanted by the lights. It's a terrific chair. We had to go to several stores to find it but it's worth the drive
Constantly changing batteries

I have had my daughter in this chair from day 1. She loves it. And now that she is 3 months old, she loves the lights and hitting the objects. And my husband and I actually love the music, it reminds us of being in the Carribbean ;) And I put it together and had no real trouble. My problem is replacing the batteries. After 13 weeks, I have changed the batteries 4 times! She has other light up, musical toys and I have not had to replace the batteries nearly as often. And yes, I have used new batteries every time. I have never had to replace the batteries in the vibration portion of the chair. I have now switched to rechargeable batteries since my daughter loves the chair so much.
NEVER AGAIN

My family bought my little sister a Bright Starts bouncer seat and the other day part of the plastic cracked! We were so fortunate that she did not fall. My sister is under the reccomended weight and there was no reason for this except that it was a crappy item that is completely unsafe for children. Do yourself favor, if you care about your baby find a different brand!!!!!!!!!
Great Bouncy Seat!

We registered for this bouncer based on all the positive reviews and have been very happy with it. We started trying to put our daughter in it when she was between 2 and 3 weeks old. At that point, she responded only to the sound of the rattle. As others have mentioned, it did not look the most comfortable for such a young baby, although she didn't complain. By 4 weeks, she was able to sit up comfortably with the harness on and was delighted by the light bar and toys. By 5 weeks she was able to reach out and swat at the toys. Our little girl gets very very excited when she realizes she is being put into the bouncer now!!! In addition to the entertainment value, the seat is very sturdy. As long as you don't try to lift it by the light bar (which the instructions point out), the light bar won't come off unintentionally.

The bad is that the toy bar comes off very easily... it's quite sensitive. My daughter is currently 5 weeks old and I've put her in it from day one. Not the greatest "hold" for a newborn (the contour) but seriously, what is? I'm sure she'll fit better when she's bigger. The vibration is the best I've seen in any chair model and the music is both soothing and upbeat and (thank you god) not annoying like most kids things. My 20 month old is also enchanted by the lights. It's a terrific chair. We had to go to several stores to find it but it's worth the drive
Maybe better for 2 months +

My baby is now almost 5 months old and is getting bored with this seat. Before he was about 2 months old, he really didn't care much about it or the toys and had to have his head propped with a blanket so it didn't fall to the side. We got a fair amount of use out of it from 2-5 months, though.
PROS:
--The lights on the bar always got his attention and, especially in the beginning, he'd stare at them in wonder.
--The hanging mirror is great (once he was big enough to see it -- see below) and can be twisted around so he can see the face on the other side.
--The vibration was helpful for when he'd start to get bored.
CONS:
--Just the three toys, and no way to add new ones that I know of, make this really boring, really fast to an older baby.
--I hate the music. To me, it's annoying. (The baby doesn't seem to care either way.) While there is a volume control, there is no way to turn it off entirely and leave the lights on. (You CAN, though, do it in reverse: turn off the lights and leave the music on -- dumb.)
--I also had trouble with him being able to reach the toys until he was about 3 months old. Only recently has he been able to see in the mirror, either. (This is not a little guy, either.) Definitely better for a baby past 2 or 3 months old.
I didn't have any of the safety issues with this that other reviewers have noted, thankfully. It's just not used much anymore because he gets bored fast in it. When he was 2-5 months old, though, I used to be able to put him in it and keep him occupied for 20 minutes or so.
1 saftey problem

I had picked this seat for my son because of the bright colors and it looked pretty sturdy compared to other bouncers. All in all the seat is pretty good. I have only had one problem with the seat itself, which was we are always putting two of the pins in that hold the seat. They constantly fall out of the one side, so we have to be very care when the baby is in the seat cause i wouldn't want the pins to fall out while he is sitting in it. But a little super glue will fix the problem. The only other thing that i noticed with this seat was that i don't think that it was made for infants less then 3 months old, my son is couldn't sit in this seat very well until he was about 3 months old. He was always slouched over and just looked very uncomfortable. But once he got a little bit more control of his head and a little bit longer he sits fine in it now. One other think that really is a problem, just a dislike on my part is how high the strap/belt that goes between the baby's legs is. With my son being 4 months old and about 25 inches long the belt still comes to almost his shoulders to me that is just a litte to high. It seems like when they made the seat the had sewn the belt/strap in the middle of the seat unstead of sewing it just a little lower. Well that is the only problems that i have with the seat. It is a pretty good seat all in all, except for these few problems. My son loves the bright colors and the music and most of all the star in the middle with the mirror on it. The chair is all good for parents that let there baby watch cartoons or the baby einstine dvd's. I take the music bar of and put my son it the seat in front of the tv and let him watch the baby einstine dvd's and he loves to sit in it like that. So that is another good thing about this chair. I like that chair once i fixed the pins falling out, its not that bad of a seat.
Nice bouncer, but hard to put together
2006-06-21
I really like this bouncer but if you are not exceptionally strong, either don't get this or get someone who is to put it together.
The Pros-
*This bouncer is really sturdy, which is mainly why I bought it. I have 3 older kids and I don't want one of them to lean on it or something and it breaks. This is MUCH sturdier than any bouncer I've had before. We had a 10 year old friend of my sons visiting and he sat in it without knowing, and the thing didn't break! It was only for a few seconds till I saw him but another bouncer would not have withstood that much weight.
*The toys are nice and my daughter just started trying to play with them. They are easy for her little arms to hit, but not too close to her face either.
*The bar plays nice music and lights up. You can adjust the volume on the music, and turn the lights off if you want. The bar is not sturdy because it is purposely made that way. If you try to pick up the bouncer by the music bar, it will come off. This is for the baby's safety, as it says on the instructions never to pick up the bouncer by the handle. It's not a carrier.
*Also, the music and lights turn off automatically after about 10 minutes. You can always turn it back on, but it saves power if you take the baby out and forget to turn it off. The batteries won't die as fast.
The Cons-
*Trying to snap together some of the pieces was near impossible. I hurt my hands trying to get it together. My husband came home and tried after I had given up. He figured out what was wrong and got it together. Had it not been for him I would have returned it.
Putting it together wasn't all bad, but once I got stuck that was it.
I do love the bouncer, but be *very* patient putting it together. It is worth it.
Wonderful

I do not have any problem with heat coming off the bar as other people have said. My son loves the lights and the music is very fun and tropical sounding! My husband and I go around singing to it while our son is playing! He loves the hanging toys and the star mirror and the optional vibrating is wonderful!!!!! I definately recommend this bouncer!

Well, we got a replacement for the one that almost caught on fire and this one does not work properly either! It's another electrical problem on the vibrating section. We totally recommend NOT getting this product.
