Very good dictaphone
2008-04-26
Efficient to set up, reliable, and insert function all make this a beneficial product. Cost was a bit high, limiting it's review to 4 star level. I might have been able to get something similar for a bit less but I like the feel, weight, button setup and directional mic I purchased with it. The mic is a must.
makes my life easier

I have a small private practice and wanted to make the next step to digital record-keeping. I went by the reviews before me and by the percentage of folks who bought this in order to make my decision to purchase this recorder.
I can't believe I went so long without it. That and the Dragon Speaking Naturally have made life easier. I record, upload it onto the laptop, edit, save and print. It does make the charting go by faster and the notes look a lot better (I have horrendous handwriting--especially when I'm in a hurry).
And, I can store everything on thumbdrives for now, until I go to online record-keeping.
Excellent for physician use

I represent a transcription company - and this recorder is the one we recommend to physicians in solo practice or smaller group practices. I would suggest one recorder per physician, although the recorder can be effectively shared due to the multiple folders available. Very quick process to save dictations to your computer and then upload to your service's website, securely.
Avoid this like the plague !!!!!

Do not, repeat, do not, buy this item. I puchased one late last year, and within 1 month all of a sudden when I tried to download a file a message came on my computer " memory card is corrupted, see your olympus dealer " . I had to deal with this by having an outside transcriptionist listen to my files and type them out. Having liked my previous recorder from Olympus a few years ago, I thought I would give this one another shot though, so I ordered a new one. Now after using it for a little more than 1 month, I'm getting the SAME MESSAGE !!! I have a 2 1/2 hour long file that's URGENT and this dictaphone won't download the file and it's outside the time I can send it back to Amazon!!! Please be smarter than me - use another dictaphone manufacturer !!!!!

Not up to par
2007-10-21
Based on the high specs and the high price, I assumed that this was a professional machine. However, other digital recorders I have had, which cost a quarter of the price, put out a much better sound straight out of its small speaker. Despite the advanced technology of being able to download these recordings into the computer, no amount of adjustment would improve the sound so that it replicated the original recording. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone wanting quality sound.
Great for attorneys

This voice recorder is great for attorneys. Our firm used to use the DS-30, but since it has been discontinued, we have moved to the DS-2300. You can learn to use the basics in a matter on minutes. The controls are easier to use since the voice recorder is slightly larger than the DS-30. A great buy! Caveat: you have to buy a new transcription kit so the foot pedal will work from your old DS-30.
Do Not Buy This Recorder!

I am a professional musician- and this recorder has provided the absolute worst recording sound I have ever heard! I get better quality with the little small cassette tapes in a cheap handheld.
The sound is fuzzy and garbled, even with the external microphone I bought, and even talking is hard to hear. Don't waste your money on this.
Fine product.

This is a beautifully conceived product -- works perfectly with a group in conference. One caviot however is that it took two previous replacements to get one where the earphone jack would work -- even the last one needs some jiggling to make contact with both channels. It's not about stereo, it's about hearing properly for editing. Editing by transferring the files to the computer is an easy alternative since the computer's speakers or earphone jack can provide clear sound on both channels. Result of a week's worth of intense meetings -- Our clients will be purchasing their own recorders -- as the price for value received is indisputably a bargain.
