Great Scanner 2007-02-01
It installed in XP quickly and easily. I was careful with the directions since I know you must not plug in the scanner until you are told to do so.
The OCR sotfware works very well including tables.
It very small, compact, and quiet.
I like the fact that it gets power from the USB port and doesn't need to be plugged in the wall. I make a lot of programs for the church and some local groups.
The features satisfy my needs.

ehhh.... I APPROVE! 2007-01-25
Okay so yeah the loud screeching of the scanner will probably grind your nerves and test your patience like it did to me, but HEY HEY the price was mighty nice X3. Plus the lid adjusts to what you're scanning in.

Also the scanner comes with at least five scanning or picture assist programs to improve the quality and details of the pic. The scanner has three easy fuctions buttons: one for email and two for pics.

So overall it was 20 bucks more than my other choice , but i'm very happy with my descision. You can even reduce fading and adjust the backlight so the little detail are more noticeable.

To sum up I LIKE this scanner ,not love like. I WAS SOOOOOOOOO happy when i found out that my new scanner is like the same size of my laptop . So it's easy to take any were!

Pretty darn good scanner 2007-01-11
After extensive research, this was the scanner for me. I had to fuss around with its settings to get it to scan books, which isn't obvious how to do at first. Compared to the scanners I use at work, this one is fast. I can scan about 100-150 pages in an hour, including the time it takes to save the page as part of a pdf file. It's slower if you don't have USB 2.0 ports. It works great with OCR text recognition. It's slim and light, and with just one cord, it's a good space-saver. The color scanning of pictures makes the colors looks a little duller than the original print versions, but the images are crisp and clear on screen.

Effective and efficient 2007-01-10
This scanner works great for my purposes. I use it in conjunction with my online fax account to copy documents to fax. I had to play around with it at the beginning to figure out the best setting but after that it was a breeze. I don't use it everyday and I love the fact that it rests on its side so it takes up less space.

portable scanner 2007-01-10
The scanner is very light, thus portable and useful for my needs, whcih is why I gave it a 3. I also have a preference for Canon photo products, as of high standard. However, its software leaves a good deal to be desired. It offers 3 different scanning methods, presumably made simple for easy use, but the options are much too limited. I am restricted to using the Advanced Mode in the ScanGear 1.1E, and even that is too limited. It is the only one in which I seem to be able to crop the photo I am scanning using 'marching ants'--but I have spent much too much time trying to control these 'marching ants' with very little satisfaction. The software falls far below what I am used to. Finally, there is no printed manual to the use of this scanner and its software. The CanoScan LIDE 60 Manual can only be viewed on screen (there is a note to say that if you print it you will not get all the text/features); it does not work to give you the right page for what you need when you need it. I chose this scanner merely for its portability, for international travel, but I am disappointed in its technical operation.

works well with mac software called Image Capture 2007-12-09
Used for scanning photos and sketches with Mac OS 10.4 and Mac Image Capture software. Entirely adequate.

Awesome scanner - Must have!! 2007-05-03
I've had this scanner for over a year now and loves it!!! The scanned documents are cleared and the scanner is just so easy to use! I use it to scan all my important documents into PDF files, old photos, etc. Unfortunately, I broke the glass on the scanner when I took it on travel with me (my fault) and bought a CanoScan LiDE 70, which I thought was an upgrade. Boy do I miss my CanoScan LiDE 60, which is so much easier and clearer than the Lide 70.

Better, but still a pain. 2007-03-16
This is my 3rd Canon scanner. The unit is nicely made, very slim and lite. Physically much better than previous Canon scanners. However, the Canoscan software is only marginally better. It took a while for me to get it installed correctly, actually two tries.

Great document/receipt scanner for Windows and Linux 2007-03-13
I've used the Canon CanoScan LiDE 60 under Microsoft Windows Vista and Ubuntu GNU/Linux 6.10, and it works great in both. I purchased this product for scanning documents and receipts, and it does its job very well.

With Windows Vista, you need to download the drivers from Canon's website (they're not included with Vista). The drivers are very minimal, lightweight, and easy to use; in about 5 minutes I was scanning documents straight into Adobe Acrobat.

The LiDE has to be one of the easiest hardware installs I've ever done in Linux. I plugged the scanner in, and started xsane. It detected my scanner and I was scanning immediately--that's it, no having to install or configure anything!

I've a few complaints:
* Noisy: the motor that draws the scanning head makes a very high pitched screech when moving. When I first received the device I thought I'd be able to use it in a library--not happening unless the library is deserted.
* Adequate color reproduction/photo scanning: The color reproduction on my Epson 2450 is leaps and bounds better. The LiDE however is easily 1.5-2x faster, a fraction of the price when comparing MSRP, and has much nicer drivers.
* Too lightweight to scan books easily: The scanner being featherweight is a good thing, except if you have to scan books or anything bound/stapled of more than a couple pages. Stuff shifts easily if you do not hold the scanner and book while scanning.

GREAT PRODUCT 2007-02-18
This is a really great scanner. I had some trouble loading it in my computer but a call to customer help fixed it quickly. It does great color image and e-mail. I have a home office and use it alot.
