I bought this in February and have made some not-too-complex projects with it just fine. It is my first sewing machine. It does all the basic stuff all right, and I found it easy to use. I'm sure that a more experienced seamstress might prefer a machine with more stitch variety and electronic controls with greater precision, but this one worked for me.

One minor quibble: I don't really like the buttonhole making functionality on this machine. I wish I had an automatic buttonhole function, but this one is okay. (It's the stitch four sides of the buttonhole then tear method here.) Make sure you practice!

Good for beginner sewing

I recently bought this item. I am totally a novice at sewing and have loved that this machine is very simple to use. There are guides on the machine for threading it, which makes it very easy to do. For my purposes, it is great. The pedal speed on the machine is great... I tend to go a little slowly with my stitches, but when pressed all the way down the speed is pretty quick. My only complaint with this product is that there is a plastic film over the knobs and covering the front of the maching (where it shows stitch types) that has become mysteriously bubbled and wrinkled. I can tell that it isn't meant to be a temporary covering. I am a bit dissapointed that this happened after only a few uses. However, this is a cosmetic problem and doesn't affect the machine's performance.

I'm not using this machine but my mother is. She's a long-time machine sewing veteran so I can rely on her opinion. And her opinion is that... this machine does what it is meant to do, i.e. sew basic stuff. People who are complaining about the machine pulling the stitches or some such apparently did not have a whole lot of experience with it because my mother managed to adjust it such that it sews properly. Yeah, it won't work right out of the box but you need to bear that in mind and just spend a few minutes adjusting the thread tension and other things that I'm not familiar with.

Great machine so far!

Its only been a week since I got the machineand we've had no problems with it so far. I bought it for my mom and she seems pretty happy. The only one thing I can think of saying is getting the string and bobbin setup through the machine was a little difficult because there weren't any written instructions; there were only pictures going from step to step.

Simple And Efficient!

I needed a sewing machine to hem my jeans quick! Needless to say, I didn't have one so I went out and got this one because it was pink and didn't cost a fortune! Besides the fact that it was cute, it did the job very well. So glad I made this purchase.

If you are a professional however, you may want to look for something else. I have had few experiences with a sewing machine and am still learning to use the many stitch functions. For those who are like me and looking for something basic but does what it's supposed to do and a little more, this is perfect!

What I love about it is the automatic bobbin winding system. Never had that luxury before. What I didn't like about it was the slideout accessory holder -- I would have prefered one that actually holds all the accessories without having to put it in a pouch because unless it's in a bag or pouch, everything would have come out as soon as you start sliding away. I guess I had one with that benefit and it felt like I downgraded otherwise, this product works great and is recommended.

The brother sowing machine is the best you can buy in my opinion. The instructions are clear and easy to read so even a new comer to sowing can learn how to use it. The sowing machine is flawless and awesome.

Didn't like this machine

I didn't like this machine at all and had to return it. The seams were never straight. The reverse button would never go straight back but always at an angle. The tension was never right. It kept giving me bubbling on the seams. I'm a very experienced sewer and I tried adjusting several things to make it work better but it never did.
I would not reccomend this product to anyone. And to make matters even worse, it's been 2 weeks since I sent this product back to Jo-Anne's and I still have not gotten a refund or even an answer as to when I can get a refund.
Poor product and service all around.

Having only rudimentary experience sewing and not having used a machine in years it was a pleasure using this Brother machine. It is easy to thread, fill bobbin and works great on a variety of material.

This is a TERRIBLE machine

This is by far the worst machine I've ever had the misfortune to buy. I'm a very experienced sewer and this machine is just terrible. The tension is never right. It's bubbling the stitches and getting tangled. It's completely useless.

The reverse switch doesn't feed the fabric straight. The automatic threader is hard to use. You have to use a special kind of bobbin, therefore replacing all of the bobbins you might have had before.

It's just a terrible machine. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
