Good quality product, just a bit noisy
2008-05-09
You can't go wrong with the price on this item. The structure itself is strong, does not look cheap and no assembling required. I wish the rotator was adjustable to set a stronger resistance but the price on those models are more than double.
Some people reviews say it is a bit noisy but since I have mine in the living room and I use it while watching TV it makes very easy to ignore the noise. Specially if watching American Funniest Videos at night! =)
It works for those days it is too dark/cold/hot to go bike outside. It definely has helped to increase my biking resistance.
Bicycle Trainer That Works

Simple. Simple to set up. Simple to use. Simply does what you expect it to do. Refreshing change from the usual garbage!
Very good product...

Prior to this purchase I knew nothing of bike trainers, and my motivation to purchase one was to simply allow my mountain bike to be used when weather or time do not allow for normal riding. So far, about a months use, I'm really pleased with it. There is no assembly required, and placing the bike into the trainer is very straight forward and easy. Some reviews have mentioned the noise, and I agree that it is noisy on the knobby mountain bike tires, but my wife has reported that she does not notice it in the house when i am in the garage using it. It's also nothing that some headphones cannot drown out for me while riding. I'm happy with the purchase, and I plan on getting a lot of use out of it.
great value.

this is a good product that does what it says. i would have given it 5 stars if the box it came in wasent so dammaged, but fortunately that product was intact. i use the trainer with a cheep cruser bike with a street tire and the noise is minimal. my brother on the other hand, occationaly borrows my trainer and uses his $800.00 plus bike and it is wisper quiet. i really like the product and would recomend
Works as advertised

Put my Canondale 26" on this rack and it works as advertised. It's a little loud, but most of that is due to the tire/tread I have...I'm looking at replacing the back tire with a treadless one made for this type of trainer. You do not have to replace the axle if you have a quick release already...mine fit right in. Setup took about 5 minutes from the box to pedaling. There is no tension adjustment on-the-fly, you have to stop, get off, and adjust the knob against the tire. You can still cycle through the gears on your bike to adjust difficulty. This is probably why it's a lot less expensive. Overall, very good workout, great price...no frills, but it works fine. Construction materials are very solid. Definite recommend.
Good but a bit noisy

This is great for rainy days and all but it's quite loud. You have to turn up the TV or headphones really loud to drown out the noise. It isn't bad if you live in a house but if you live in an apartment, your neighbors might not appreciate the volume of your television if you watch while training. Aside from that, it's great
Once again; Product=5,Amazon=1

The trainer is as advertised, and works great. Good unit for the money. Simple to set-up and use. I would certainly recommend getting a road-type tire for the rear of your bike if you are using with a mountain bike, as the vibration of the tire can get loud and be irritating after a while. But, I'm sure that's the case with any trainer.
The problem... ...AMAZON. When I clicked "THIS IS A GIFT", I assumed it would arrive in some sort of nondescript packaging. No, it arrived in it's box, proudly displayed on my porch where, upon arriving home from work, my wife gat an early birthday present. HELLO? AMAZON? Anyone home? Second order in as many months that had problems. Seriously considering shopping elsewhere from now on.
Not bad for the price

I bought this item so I could continue riding my bike through the tough Chicago winters. I had no idea it was going to be SO LOUD! I live in a condominium, and after the first day of using this product, I got a "not so friendly" visit from the people who live downstairs. Before long, I also got the same type of visit from several other neighbors. After about a week, this item went into storage. I probably should just sell it, because as long as I live in this condo, I won't be able to use it, because of the noise.
The item works well, it's just extremely loud. I suggest not getting it unless you live in a house. It makes it very difficult to listen to music while riding too.

Trainer arrived very promptly as promised; however, the shipping box looked like it had been through WWIII. I decided to take pictures of the box before opening just to be on the safe side. I was please to see that the Bell Motivator Mag Trainer had not suffered any damage. My second concern was when I found a part included that had no description as to what it was or how to use it and the user's guide left a lot to be desired. Fortunately, the customer service rep I talked to was very helpful and I was up and riding in short order. I have used the trainer daily since receiving and although a bit loud it is not nearly as bad as I had anticipated after reading many other reviews prior to ordering. The unit is very stable and I absolute will say it fits my needs without a hitch. Good product - I would have given this a 5 but considering the condition of the box at the time of receipt plus extremely poor instructions I think a 4 is fair.
Not enough resistance, stripped adjustment wheel couldn't be replaced easily
2008-05-14
This is a very basic trainer with very little resistance. This really is best for beginner bikers.
In addition, the tension adjustment knob is made of cheap plastic which stripped and cracked within a few weeks. When I called the company for support they said that they didn't have any extra ones that they could send me. They told me I would have to mail in the entire unit to have it replaced. It certainly wasn't worth the cost shipping for a 30-cent piece of cheap plastic.
I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to take it somewhere to have a metal crank welded on to replace the cheap plastic adjustment knob. Until then, I have to use a pair of pliers to adjust the tension.
The unit is easy to setup and to get the bike setup on it. I didn't need to use the extra skewer that was provided but you may if you have an older bike.
I recommend you buy slick tires to use with this (and any other) trainer. I very quickly went out and bought slick tires for my mountain bike because the knobby tires makes too much noise. Even with the slicks the noise is louder than I would like, but this is not the unit making the noise - it's the vibration from the tires which you will have with any unit. Another thing that helped was setting up the trainer and bike on a set of foam floor pads to reduce tranmission of vibrations to the rest of the room.
