Editorial Review
Just when this Icelandic crew seemed stuck in loud/soft/loud/ soft rut a la Mogwai or Godspeed You Black Emperor, they release their most beguiling, subtle and beautiful album yet. This album, allegedly the group's first sung in Icelandic rather than their own made-up "Hopelandic" (not that this listener could tell the difference) is relentlessly joyous, unaffectedly rad and inventive but never just for its own sake. Strings hold an ever more prominent place in the music, and this is a good thing. Songs unfold slowly as usual, but they take unexpected turns as often as not. The brilliant "Glósóli" burbles with as much melodic invention and anything by their fellow Icelanders Mum. Takk is a delight from start to finish, managing to be both their most accessible and experimental album yet. --Mike McGonigal

Not much to say that hasn't been said, but... 2008-05-29
The first time I put this disc in the player, I was driving home after work (I purchased this album on my lunch break). I had no idea what was in store for me.

The climax of Glosoli brought me to tears.

It was one of the most beautiful pieces of music I'd ever heard, and a mix of the intensity of the playing and the brilliance of the arrangement was simply too much for me to handle -- I couldn't help but cry.

It was the first time a song outside of the classical music realm actually made me cry because of the music alone -- certain lyrics have been known to affect me that way emotionally, but not a raw musical performance by a traditional guitar, bass, keys, drums band.

As I continued to listen to the entire disc, I discovered that it was one of the most amazingly performed, musically diverse and well produced albums ever created. And I hold that opinion to this very day.

It's essential.

so good and so AMAZON bad 2008-05-28
I love Sigur Ros
I love many artists that Amazon helps selling their songs
BUT I HATE the simplicity of major BIG companies how they seem only to be interested in non creative MAINSTREAM thinking.
SO Amazon sells most if not all only songs in the .mp3 format
a LOW-FI format that never should have been invented in the first place as it gives audiophile quality a LOWER priority than anything else.

lossless formats to store music is the answer (.flac for instance) but major companies follow main stream values...
PLZ ppl, COMPLAIN that is THE ONLY way major companies are wiling to introduce change as soon as they have implemented their own strategies

Amazing, Stunning, Epic! 2008-05-08
the first time i heard of this band was in a little pub where amateur djs played every once in a while. the song was glosoli the second track. i was immediately bedazzled. this band is the most amazing band ive ever heard. the genre is so different from anything ive heard before, comes close to ambient rock mixed with beautiful symphonies and melodies. the music is so beautiful so refreshing it will blow you away, this album is definitely my favorite and none of the tracks are boring or bad. simply a masterpiece

Truly Astonishing 2008-05-06
I never write reviews, but I just had to on this one. Let's be clear, either you "get" Sigur Ros or you do not. If not, that's fine, just move along.

Every song one this CD are either ridiculously beautiful and soaring (Hoppipolla, Saeglopur, Andvari, Glosoli) or are simply stellar (the rest of the CD). There is absolutely zero filler here. Some of the songs almost make you want to cry.

If you like Radiohead, Flaming Lips, Muse, Bjork, then this CD is right up your alley!

Not their best 2008-02-07
I really like Hoppipolla and all but this isn't their best. I almost have all the tracks on this album on my computer. Unlike Agaetis Byrjun and Von, it is kind of annoying. I would suggest Agaetis Byrjun. It doesn't sound like Staralfur or Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa (those two songs are from Agaetis Byrjun)I really think this isn't their best album. Go ahead. Buy this album. You won't be too disappointed...

glosoli = melodic paradise 2007-11-06

Jawdropping 2007-11-03
The whole album is beautiful and important, but even if it weren't, you might want to buy it just for "Sæglópur." You know roughly where this song is going to go almost instantly, and it does in fact go there...but, oh, the journey.

I'm reminded of nothing more than "Mornixuur" by Bel Canto from _Shimmering, Warm & Bright_, and from me, that's high praise.

Profound, profound, profound 2007-10-11
My soul soars when listening to Glosoli. It has an ethereal, other worldly quality about it. And it has a wonderful climax and release that is worth the wait. If you watch the video of this track, you can begin to understand the metaphor at a soul level. The other tracks are also superb. This is not ordinary music. It affects me at a very deep emotional level. I feel healed after listening to it. Give it a try. I think you will agree with my assessment of its transformative power and beauty.

Brilliant. 2007-09-26
Truly Brilliant. A Work of Art in these modern times; I find myself absolutely astonished every single time I finish a song, just hanging on my seat for the next movie-esque music. One of my favorites in my entire collection.

AMAZING! 2007-09-15
I love this CD! The music is like nothing I've ever heard before, so ambient and amazing. It makes me feel like I'm in another world. I'd have to say this is one of the more accessible Sigur Ros albums, so it might be a good place for newer fans to start.
