Philips Service / Not 2007-07-05
I Purchased the Philips 42PF7320A 42" Widescreen Plasma HDTV at BJ's November 2005 for $1899. It died in June, 2007, nothing but a blinking red light. The meaning of that blinking red light is not explained anywhere in the manual or on the website. I searched the Philips web site for the words "service" or "repair" and came up with nothing.

I Called the 800 number and was told that the only authorized repair shop is more than 60 miles from my home. They offer no set price for service or estimates for reapair. The same television today sells for $1099. The quality of the picture makes it not worth repairing. I decided to drop it off at the local land-fill and buy something new. Beware, with Philips you are on your own if it fails. Based on other reviews I am happy that it lasted 18 months. It was a good buy at the time and an inexpensive first HD television. I will not buy another Philips television.

I purchased a 47in 1080P LCD GV47LF VIZIO television at BJ's this week for $1599. I love it. Everything about it is dramatically better than the Philips 42" Plasma that I tossed last month. I'm actually happy that the Philips' died when it did.

Do not buy from Philips 2007-06-09
I purchased this t.v. december of 2005 for $2200, great price at the time. It worked great until about a month ago. First the whole screen would go black for a few seconds. Now the whole bottom half goes black for a few minutes every fifteen minutes or so. Phillips denies this problem even though you can find countless accounts of this problem online.

How to lose $1000... 2007-05-17
I too bought a refurb from Philips and it died like clockwork just outside of the warranty period. If you don't believe me and other reviewers here do your own research on the AVS forums. Read the horror stories. I wish I had done that before I decided to purchase it. Also, ask yourself why there are so many bad refurbs around. ANSWER: Because this TV obviously suffers from some inherent design flaw and has quality control issues. I agree the picture was great for the short time it worked. It also has great hookups for home theater, DVD etc. But how long will it last? Factor in Philips piss-poor customer service for the Total Loss. Never again.

DONT BUY!!! Another Black Screen TV 2007-05-11
I bought this tv as a refurb off of the Philips Outlet site. Never again will I do that either. First the TV came in with a bar coming down the one screen. This was all fixed under warranty but getting a repair guy to come by and take it and then having philips ship them the parts took a total of 60+ days to get it back (most of the delays was related to philips getting them the correct parts). PHILIPS customer support is TERRIBLE when you try to call and get an update or complain (its like they hear it all the time)!!! Please note that this means that the TV is 2/3rd past its 90 day warranty and I didnt even have any usage of the tv since the first day of purchase! I asked for an extension but they would not even remotely assist. Once that headache was over, and it came back, the tv worked great for about 2 months and now it has that "black screen of death" that everyone complains about (and of course its past the warranty period). I'm going to try and upgrade the Firmware like another said on the AVS forum to see if that works...but never again will I buy a Philips TV or a philips product in general.

Let me convince you why you should NOT buy a Philips 2008-05-13
I purchased this plasma for my father to give to him for Christmas 2006. By Christmas 2007 I had to buy him a new one. First - notice how all the positive reviews comment on this plasma after owning it for only a few weeks? Check back with them now and see if they feel the same way!

This is a great plasma for the first few months, but after that the problems begin. The sound started going out on the set. No big deal, or so we thought, since we just turned the set off and then back on. Problem solved ... NOT! Shortly after the sound began giving us problems, the picture started flickering. A few months later, we were forced to leave our set off for a few minutes before the screen would reset. About two months later, the red light of death. The screen would no longer turn on! Calling Philips did little to resolve this. Their help was about as useful as the positive reviews written for this product. It seems to me, this plasma offers a decent product until the warranty runs out, after that you're forced to either scrap the system (which I did) or pay the outrageous repair fees. We were quoted at over a thousand dollars to fix this plasma. Considering the price I paid for it originally and the prices now, it would have been foolish to try and salvage this screen.

I guess what I'm trying to tell you is: avoid this plasma at all costs!! Consider the amount of money you are about to spend and ask yourself: Do you really want to take a chance? Purchase a more reliable system and you'll be better off!

Last for 22 months 2007-10-16
When it worked, the picture was ok. The sound was bad. Last week, the picture was gone, and the red light was flickering. Mine lasts for 22 months, much longer compare to other people. I thought Philips was a good name, but its TV is definitely a piece of #%@*!

Please, do not buy this product. 2007-09-10
I have this TV for 23 months, today, the screen turned black and I noticed the feared blinking red light. Called support and as soon as I mentioned the red light she said, "thats not good". Thanks. Internal problem..you know the rest. I asked her if this is a common problem for a TV thats two years old...she said its "normal wear and tear". Thanks again. 2300$ down the toilet. It also had all the other fun problems....screen that will shut off occasionally, green screen. I know there are some of you out there that are satisfied with this TV, I was ok with it until today and after reading everyone elses similar problems, stay away. There is not much difference in picture quality with this than other manufacturers TV's. Why risk it. DO NOT BUY A PANASONIC. I won't...ever.

Was a good unit until the warranty expired 2007-08-27
I purchased this unit when prices were still high, and paid around $2400.00 with tax for this TV. It had a good picture for just over a year. It always had little issues, and I assumed they were heat related - although the unit was not against a wall. I had a fan running on the back of the unit when it was on to assure it had plenty of air. It would go black from time to time so I would let it site and wait for the picture to come back. then from time to time it would get lines in the screen for a few minutes then go away. About three months ago, the unit popped a little and had lines at the bottom of the screen. About 2 minutes later it had lines across the entire screen. It has a picture that is very 80's reminding me of rabbit ears. I can still make out most of the picture but very difficult to tell what's going on.

I felt devastated, I paid way too much for this TV to only get 15 or 16 months of service from it. I have three Philips TVs at home and this is definitely the last. I searched their site but based on the feedback I see on other sites, I see that it is nearly impossible to get this repaired - parts take 6 mths or more to get. I still have it here non-functional. Spend a few bucks more and get a REAL TV!!

What a lemon!! 2007-08-01
I purchased this tv in January 2006. Right from the start the volume would turn off every couple of hours. I would have to turn if off and back on to correct problem. In July of 2007, the picture became distorted, and the color was only red and green. Of course, this was off warranty so I called Sears to come and fix it. The repairman called Phillips and they want $1,700.00 to repair it!!! I could buy a new one for that price. I would never buy another Phillips product again!!
