Customer Reviews
Worked with Ubuntu Gutsy out of the box!
2008-04-26
I am really impressed with this card. I installed it in 5 minutes in my desktop and when I powered up Ubuntu the card was detected right away. All I needed to do was select the SID and type in the password and that was it!
I dual booted into my windows XP home edition and tried to install the driver but the install failed for some reason unknown to me. I am still debugging this part of it.
Great of Ununtu (Linux), jury still out on windows.
Works seamlessly

I received it earlier than expected, installed it and once my PC went through its typical install for the drivers, it worked without a hitch. My network was recognized immediately.
And can't beat the price.
Works with Linux (Ubuntu)

For the most part, it works with Ubuntu Linux 7.10. However, I still have to fiddle with it to get it running (install some pkgs). I also need to run a script to activate it.. am trying to find out how to do this automatically.
driver for windows 98se doesn't work
2007-12-16
The instruction book for installation was pitiful. After several days of trying to install the utility and driver for Windows 98se I called the company and found out that the driver isn't really compatible with Windows 98 or 98se and even if you think you have Windows 98se as I have always thought since the cd that came with my Dell clearly says, Windows 98se, you may not.Click start, run and winver. That's where you'll find the truth. Anyway, after working and working, rebooting and continually running Trendnet's cd (it doesn't open automatically, you have to click run d:\ and even then sometimes it shows the driver and utility files and sometimes it doesn't) I installed everything. I installed and uninstalled probably 15 times before the adapter in my program folder would open. Of course during this whole ordeal, it crashed my computer and still shows error messages and "trendnet not responding" when it is. Beware if you have any older operating system even though it says it's compatible on the box. I will say that their customer service did respond both by phone(2 days later) and email. The email support was useless and the phone support caused my computer to lock up twice so I had to hang up and fix it myself. She emailed me a new driver, but said if I had Windows 98 it wouldn't work. It turns out she was right. It works sometimes and I can get on the internet, but my computer locks up continuously. I guess I'm going to have to uninstall it and try to repair the damage. The hardware is great! The software just isn't compatible.

Easy To Install and Works Great

I have been using this adapter for 6 months and have had no problems. The installation took less than 30 minutes and it has worked well ever since. Looking at the reviews on other wireless adapters, I have concluded that this one works as well or better and for a lot less money. I am very pleased.
Works out of the box with Ubuntu
2007-05-02
I bought this card to install into an Ubuntu(7.04) Linux box. The card was recognized by Ubuntu immediately and it loaded the correct drivers. If you have any trouble with the driver, make sure you have the linux-restricted-modules installed, as the madwifi driver for this card is included in that package. Just search for madwifi in the package manager and it should install everything you need.
I have yet to get WPA working correctly with this card, and I'm not sure if it's the card or the operating system. Some people on various message boards have claimed it works after some tweaking, so I'm going to look into that.
All in all, I'm very happy I purchased this card, and the price can't be beat. Several of the other cards I looked at by the big name manufacturers (D-Link, Linksys, Netgear...) were more expensive and had nominal support in Linux.
Excellent Card

The TRENDnet wireless card is excellent, but the setup could definitely be better, especially if you use an encrypted access point or router (i.e. WEP, WPA, etc.). The first thing I found was I had to turn off Windows XP's wireless configuration wizard. Next I had to configure everything using the TRENDnet Wireless Configuration utility. It seems a bit touchy to get it to remember the password, especially if you used something other than the default first key. Once everything works and it keeps the password it will be trouble free from then on. Also, on an unprotected access point it has no problems.
Great product!

This performs better than the name brand card that I purchased for my laptop!
