I wanted to create a professional-looking website for my new business without having to learn any code and SiteSpinner allowed me to do exactly this. My choices were to use a program like SiteSpinner myself or to pay a website designer. I am completely satisfied with the results from SiteSpinner and thrilled that it allowed me to save so much money. I was making a site from scratch so it didn't matter to me that it couldn't import existing html.

This is much easier to use than Front Page & dramatcally easier than MS Web Expression for people who don't know HTML. I also tried CoffeeCup but it didn't seem as capable as SiteSpinner. SS is NOT nearly as easy and bullet-proof for beginners as some of the proprietary editors built in to the big web hosting sites like Network Solutions or Yahoo.
My biggest complaint with SS is the text editor is not WYSIWG and doesn't perform like all microsoft apllications when is comes to CUT & PASTE.

I was a software engineer for 22 years. I left the field 7 years ago. I was using SiteSpinner back then and still use it today! I've tried other web design programs - expensive ones too - and always come back to SiteSpinner for its simplicity, ease of use, and straight-forwardness. I've taught beginners how to use this program in under 30 minutes. I highly recommend this program to anyone and everyone! Now if running the country were as easy as this program.....
Site Spinner is amazing software! 2008-02-20
I love this product. I have built a couple of sites and I'm working on 5 more. It's got a ton of features. You have to spend some time and develop your own but that's what "custom" is!!! It's not like using some overused templates. It lets you be your own creator and the sky's the limit!! Two thumbs up for SS!! (go to their site and see their users gallery)
More Than Meets The Eye 2008-01-25
I am quite the novice when it comes to web design, and I knew that I didn't want to shell out hundreds of dollars for expensive web software (i.e. Dreamweaver). So I decided, for fifty bucks, to give Sitespinner a try. You can view the site I created with this software at mywifispy()com.
When you first open Sitespinner, your immediate reaction is "I can't believe I paid fifty bucks for this!" An '02 Ford Focus comes with more extras than this. How wrong I was. As I began to build my website, slowly & surely, I discovered hidden little extras. By right-clicking on many objects, further options & menus revealed themselves. I was able to create buttons, pull-down menus, scroll boxes and other things that I had never done. I know for certain that there are many more options, features & functions on this software, but for now, I am happy with the website I created. As I mentioned above, Sitespinner is not idiot-proof. I educated myself with the tutorials which are accessible on the CD and in the Help tab at the top of the Sitespinner window. I recommend accessing the tutorial from the CD because the tutorial will open in an Internet Explorer window; that way, you can read the tutorial & work on your project simultaneously. Be a little patient with the tutorial as well. The authors of Sitespinner (Virtual Mechanics) make an effort to explain how to do things in "Lay Terms," but they get a little pro-noun happy and can leave you a little puzzled as to what they are referencing. One of the things that was most frustrating was using the FTP feature in "Publish" tab at the top of the Sitespinner window. For some reason, even with proper username, password & directory, I was unable to upload my project. I ended up opening the server directory with Windows Explorer and I just copied & pasted my project on to the server. It was a few extra steps in the process but the task was completed. To surmise, I gave this software 4 out of 5 stars because Sitespinner has a lot of features for the money. If the tutorials were written just a little better (they are good though) and If I could have figured out the FTP feature, Sitespinner would have gotten that fifth star.
SiteSpinner is great 2008-07-21
Great product at a great price. Easy to learn and easy to use. Anybody can create a great web site with SiteSpinner. A must have if you want to build your own web site. Everything you need is here and everything works great. I do commercial programming for scientific software and when I needed to create a web site I wanted a product that was up to the job. Believe me this product is intuitive and a snap to learn. Not complex to use and that is the mark of an excellent product.

I love the fact that an old blonde accountant can build a website without any formal training and achieve a good looking result. Very easy to use and worth much more than the couple of $ (even after converting it to South African Rands) I recommend it for anyone who is tired of sponsoring overpaid web developers!

I have been doing websites since 1996. Back then we were all pretty much hand coding and the name of the game was tables, transparent GIFs, and all manner of tweaks and tricks you had along the way. I tried the early "no brainer" software and it came up short. I hate to think how much I spent on Front Page, GoLive, Dreamweaver, and the like. They just didn't give me the clean code that could be relied on, and they frankly were not that intuitive.
Fast forward to 2008. Somebody finally got it right at an amazing price. I admit at first I thought it was far too cheap to be as good as reviewed, but I was wrong. This is superb software, and the output is reliable across all the browsers that I routinely test it on. I use both SiteSpinner, and the next generation Web Engine. Honestly I am astonished
at the power, the intuitiveness and the results.
At the Virtual Mechanics Website you can purchase the program and get a year of free web hosting. That makes this great piece of software absolutely risk free, cheaper than the hosting really. I bought the full package with Web Engine and I have to say this is the best $100 I have ever spent on software. No regrets, no hesitations, and only great results.
Experienced veterans like me will appreciate doing site design without the headaches of running back and forth between code and output. Honestly I never expected to be so freed up. The program contains a very capable FTP publishing tool that is more than adequate. It is absolutely great to be able to design what I always imagined with such ease. This company has broken ground in this category with a superb product at an astonishing price point. Buy it, you will love it.

The worst web building software I've ever used

There are so many glitches in this software, it'll make you go mad trying to get it to do what you're trying to get it to do. I've built many websites myself, writing them myself in HTML. I figured I'd take the easy way out and get a site building program to do it for me. I'll never make that mistake again. Either get a MUCH better product, or learn HTML yourself. It'll be easier in the long run. I've spent over 2 weeks just trying to get all of the website uploaded to the web because of irronious code this program has put in, so in reality, I'm back to trying to rewrite the site myself using HTML. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
