Susan Delivers!!
2007-03-16
I'm an avid Susan Tedeschi fan, so I was pleased by this CD. I've seen Ms. Tedeschi perform live and will be seeing her and her husband (Derek Trucks) next month so this album is part of my "preparations" for the concert :-)
I love her phrasing when she sings, I love the choice of material on this CD, and her obvious love for the blues genre. I never thought any current female singer could love and promote the blues as well as Bonnie Raitt until Susan came along. Now the blues has two of the most beautiful female voices in the music industry converting new listeners to their music. AND they can both play like the dickens!!
Keep the blues alive ladies!
Someone stop Joe Henry before he "produces" again!

I'm serious, someone shove JH out from behind the mixing console before he mangles another CD!!
For the record, I own and enjoy most of Joe's CDs and all of Susan's CDs . But the production here is just strange, with lots of instruments in mono panned hard right or left, and almost every track has the trailing sound of some instrument (usually organ) dragging on for too long before the fadeout - gaaa!!
But my biggest disappointment with this CD: this a CD by a blues guitarist upon which said guitarist doesn't play! What (TF) were they thinking? Susan: girl, you play fine, don't listen to those pinheads who say you can't. I saw you live last year and was totally blown away by your playing and singing!
p.s. Joe H. also helped to ruin the latest CD from Aimee Mann (The Forgotten Arm) with his shenanigans.
Wantin' more of the blues...

In my opinion, this CD is missing a bit of the raw Tedeschi bluesiness that I love so dearly, but I hate to be critical of such a superbly talented woman!
Magnificent!!!

Tedeschi's passionate display of soulful and bluezy talents are well represented in her latest album, Hope and Desire. Love it!
Love the album

Love the album... probably only one song on the whole thing I don't listen to. Would recommend for fans of her other albums.
Susan Tedeschi Hope and Desire

Susan is the brightest new light in the world of REAL, non machine generated R&B, blues, and rock music, and Hope and Desire is just her latest fine effort. In a time when it is rare to hear a song that is not smothered with computers and machines generating sounds that simulate musicians and instruments, hearing people, well actually singing and playing is a refreshing pleasure to what we are exposed to in this non-musical day and age. Susan is down to earth and genuine, and Hope and Desire emulates those feelings.
She's got the chops

Make no mistake about it, Susan Tedeschi's got the musical chops sorely missing from a lot of contemporary artists.
I first heard her singing "Kansas City" with Willie Nelson on his "Milk Cow Blues" CD, and found her vocals to be stunning, which still holds on "Hope and Desire". I love her rendition of "You Got the Silver".
She's made my list of favorite contemporary musicians. I'm looking forward to listening more music from her.
Great CD!

This was a little different from her usual blues/rock style, but a very good different; with a more gospel feel. Still soulful and unmistakably Susan Tedeschi. Yes, I would recommend this CD, a great addition to any music lovers repertoire.
A must have for Susan Tedeschi fans

Since discovering Susan Tedeschi I am absolutely hooked....her voice is like Bonnie Raitt on steroids!! Her voice is rough, but not forced, very sincere and natural. This album covers so many great songs it's hard to pick a favorite, but I'd have to say her Stones cover of "You Got the Silver" is amazing. "Share Your Love", an Aretha Franklin cover, is phenomenal as well; actually, there's not a bad song on this cd. Buy it - you won't be disappointed!
She can do no wrong!

Susan Tedeschi puts her hubby Derek Trucks to shame! Her voice is fabulous. Although, I prefer her "Live in Austin", this one is great as well...she covers "I got the silver" impeccably. She is awesome!
