Editorial Review
With the compact PIXMA MP170 Photo All-In-One, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish. Right at home, you can easily print high-quality photos and text, copy important documents, and scan your photos and other images. One key to its impressive printing performance: Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) uses an innovative print head with 1,472 nozzles that eject consistent, precise ink droplets as small as 2 picoliters. More nozzles + higher accuracy = better photos. This patented technology produces an outstanding resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi1, for superb detail and photo-realism. You won't wait long for the results; printing a beautiful photo lab quality 4"x 6" borderless photo takes approximately 55 seconds.

What about copying? For improved performance, AE (Auto Exposure) Copy feature automatically optimizes reproduction quality based on the type of original you're duplicating. Whether you're copying your photos, text documents or a mix of both, the MP170 Photo All-In-One automatically adjusts the exposure to give you the best output possible. When scanning your photos or graphics, you'll produce high-quality reproductions of up to 1200 dpi with vibrant 48-bit color depth. Plus, the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed3 interface accelerates the process, enabling the fastest possible image transfers and scanning speeds.

This versatile All-In-One's built-in card slots let you print directly from a variety of memory cards. Just insert the card and generate a photo index sheet that lets you choose your prints, pick their size and set the number of copies. Once filled out, the index sheet is scanned and the selected images will begin to print! You can also print directly from your PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder. Just connect and print! Copy photos and documents with versatile copy functions Scan quickly and easily with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed

Canon is by far one of the best 2006-04-13
After extensive research I chose this printer first of all because canon is a great product and second of all because of all the outstanding reviews. We recieved the printer in record time through amazon and so far are very satistfied with it. It serves well as a home printer and is wonderfully compatible with our canon digital camera. I love that I can just photocopy whatever I need in two seconds flat and that if I want to print a picture I can do that also and get good photo quality results. Five stars all the way for canon once more!

BERRY BERRY GOOD!! 2006-03-29
my Epson crapped out on me and i need a new all-in one that was affordable, good, and i needed it fast and amazon delivered as usual!!

i thought about buying the MP130, but it seems they had stopped with it and this was the next model up. cant tell many differences to be honest as i rarley use my brothers MP130, but i must say this MP170 is very good and prints very fast!!

scans are great, copies arent to shabby!!

one thing i dont like, is it doesnt let me delete images from my memory cards, but thats not a big deal as i can just delete them after through the camera, but its a little irritaiting, but not the reason why i bought the MP170.

so, you need a good all in one, then dont look any further, as you wont be dissapointed.

Just changed to Canon 2006-03-16
Just had my third Epson failure, read the reviews on Canon and switched. So far I'm very pleased, seems clearer than my Epsons. Really neat compact machine that does it all very well. Amazon delivered ahead of expectation. *****

canon printer scanner 2006-03-09
This does everything I expected, software worked fine, and scan quality is good and adjustable, with also ocr text option. It takes somewhat longer to print than I would like. Also the feature for alerting to being out of paper forces you to push the ok button on the printer rather than just acknowledge it on screen.

Bad Printer..Had to return for full refund..Tech Support no help 2006-03-04
I bought the printer due to all the positive remarks but I guess I was the unlucky one. First time I Turned on the printer and troubleshooting is already required. I called tech support and he could not help. He said I have a "faulty printer, thanks for calling, bye". Oh well, on to the next printer.

Beautiful printing, scanner didn't work 2007-07-05
I had to return this printer due to the scanner not working since an error message said it couldn't communicate with the PC. Canon's online tech notes, and e-mail support (4 rounds), and a 45-minute phone call did not help. They just had me try different USB ports, uninstall and reinstall the software, and were wary of my 6' USB 2.0 cable, telling me that I needed a 4' gold-plated cable instead. I've never had a USB problem before with any other product.
They finally sent me a replacement (an upgraded unit, the MP180), but it exhibited the same problem. Both were reburbished units, but I think the Canon drivers have a problem.
I finally bought the Lexmark 2500 and it works fine.
The MP160 prints beautifully, however.
The Amazon distributor who sold me the original MP160 was very good to work with.

Beats HP 2006-10-23
I was a low-end HP inkjet customer, for several printers. My last HP had mechanical issues after only a couple years of infrequent use. I nursed it along and when it fianlly gave out I went looking for something else. The MP-170 has exceeded all expectations; ease of use, utilities, and speed. The scanner has proven more useful than I thought it would. I've had this about a year, it's been great.

Good in many ways but also disappointing picture printing 2006-09-28
I switched from an Epson when it stopped printing color properly, and I wanted a multi function inkjet for home use. Although I have liked my previous 2 Epsons, I decided against Epson because of a ribbon problem that occurs in various models (which happened to my husband's machine.) I also decided against HP because many consumer reviews mentioned paper jamming. Canon has very good reviews with Consumer Reports and on Amazon, and the price is very good.
I liked the size, the price, the multifunction and the easy to use interface (software and hardware) of the 170. However when I printed color and especially color photos, I was very disappointed. The edges of the image are very blurry as though the ink runs. I thought it was my digital image, but I tried printing the image using my husband's Epson C82, and it was night and day. The Epson image was nice and sharp with absolutely no problem. I am glad I didn't waste much time digitally fixing the image.

I print a lot of photos around Xmas time. I really cannot use this printer to print photos at all.

I have been usually very happy with all Canon products I own (2 excellent cameras and 1 scanner.)Perhaps the 4xx or 8xx models are better (based on Consumer Report), but they have a larger footprint than my desk can take.

Canon PIXMA MP170 All-In-One Photo Printer Excellent 2006-07-25
Easy setup, fast text printing, reasonable scanning/copying ... for the price, way exceeded my expectations for photo printing ... on good paper photos are very high quality! A great, bargain printer!

canon printer 2006-07-15
I am really happy with this printer. I have now had it for about 6 weeks. No problems so far. I think the printing quality for photos is great. I read the other reviews, which said that the photo quality left something to be desired, and I disagree. My only criticism is that it uses ink fast, so if you buy it, buy some ink refills at the same time. It seems to use up the color ink more quickly than the black. I also love the fact that it has a copier, which works great.
