Editorial Review
The Mighty Mouse Wireless Standalone Kit complements your Apple computer and makes controlling it a breeze. It's fully Bluetooth-enabled, letting you operate your Mac from anywhere in the room. Laser tracking lets you work without rollers or tracking mechanisms -- no more wearing out or clogging, no more mouse balls to fish out and clean. The entire top shell of the Wireless Mouse operates as a super-sensitive button - the body pivots up and down to actuate the click mechanism. The force-sensing side buttons give you added control, and the elliptical shape accommodates right and left-handed users equally. A miniature scroll ball on the top adds to the control, making it a pleasure to use.

Could be great, but ... is not. 2008-04-26
It's great at the beginning, but sooner or later, the scroll-down function will literally die. There is no non-destructive way to clean the ball to restore its function.

Oh how I wanted to love this mouse... 2008-04-14
I wanted to love this mouse, I really really did - and parts of it I did love. Unfortunately, the fact that it didn't much work overwhelmed my fond feelings for it initially, as it does.

The good - it's beautiful. It fits better in my hand than any mouse I have ever used. It matches my Mac (and little things do make me happy). When it works, it works like a dream. The scroll wheel is the best I have ever used. Did I mention is matched my Mac? It has an Apple logo on it and comes in a very pretty package. This is generally a big plus for me. On the surface, I love this mouse.

Now, for the oh so bad - Unlike any other bluetooth devices I have used with my Mac, this poor guy has horrid reception; dropping the signal at least once a day and usually in mid drag and click or some other inopportune time. To get it back, you have to shut it off and back on bringing it in to discover mode. That process takes about 30 seconds before your back in action. Imagine if this were to happen during a game of pong? I mean for the love of God...

Secondly, the right click works - oh about every 10th time. This makes right clicking, difficult. I was forced to fall back to Ctrl+Click for my right clicking needs, which made my keyboard happy as it was back to being useful for mousing and such. Good for nostalgia, I felt as though I was back in 1996 - but bad for a mouse that claims to be 'mighty'.

Thirdly, the oh so wonderfully designed best I've ever used trackball started to clog after 3 weeks of use. Granted, I am a dirty, dirty man with dirty, dirty fingers - but regardless of whose to blame, the mouse or my grooming habits, it's a real problem. Seeing as how you can in no way remove the itsy bitty track ball to clean it, you're fairly well skewered on this point alone.

I think I can safely make the assumption that I didn't just receive a mishap from the conveyor belt. I returned and exchanged my lovely to look at and hold but not to use mouse twice, giving three of the cute little things a chance to work in all. I did try to love and keep it forever and ever. It just wasn't meant to last. I'm back to using my Dell mouse - which is possibly the ugliest mouse I've ever seen and to add to its frightening looks it has a giant Dell logo on it... but it does actually 'work'.

Decent Bluetooth mouse, but not perfect 2008-03-18
When I purchased my Macbook about a year ago, I was looking for a wireless mouse as a complement. I tried a Microsoft wireless notebook mouse and a Logitech VX revolution but ended up not using them. The main inconvenience with them was the USB dongle required to use them - not only does it use up a port but they were also susceptible to being bumped while moving around and possibly damaging the USB port (not good since the logic boards on Macbooks are very expensive to replace).

I settled with the Wireless Mighty Mouse. To keep it short, here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
-Recognizes fairly quickly by the Macbook. Usually it will work right away on bootup. Sometimes after awaking from sleep mode, you have to click the mouse once to have it connect again.
-Scroll ball is responsive most of the time
-Interesting design - fits the aesthetic of the Macbook

Cons
-As other reviewers mentioned, the scroll ball is susceptible to attracting dust and stop working. Although, it is fairly simple to clean by wiping it with a clean cloth and some alcohol.
-The side buttons are not easy to use. In order to use the side buttons, you have to squeeze the sides with a fair amount of force and it's not really intuitive. I would have much preferred independent click buttons that could be assignable.
-Battery life is only fair. The batteries that came with the mouse (Energizer Lithium) worked great and lasted for a few months of daily use, but normal alkaline batteries will last 4-6 weeks, on average.
-Fairly expensive

At the time I bought it, this was really the only Bluetooth laser mouse option available, but since then new products have come out. If I were buying today, I would probably go with the Logitech Bluetooth laser mouse.

Mouse with no tail - ideal for Mac laptops 2008-03-08
Have used for over a year with our MacBook - like it a lot. Nice to be able to right-click ('course other mice will do that) but in addition the MM will access a lot of features on OSX. Quality and sensitivity excellent. I like the 360 degree scrolling. Good battery life, can use one or two batteries. A little pricey; however, after using it for the past year and comparing it to other mice we've had, I'd say it was worth it. As with everything Apple, feel and finish are excellent. Wish it came in black to match the MacBook!

ditto on scrolling problems 2008-02-23
The 3 star overall rating on this product has to be from people who just bought one. I loved it at first, but now have scroll ball that only works in the up direction. Back to logitech for me

I wish it was better 2008-07-23
I was reading reviews here and people mentioned that it right clicks but is hard to get to work. I never realized that it right clicks because I can never make it work. It is very uncomfortable in the hand, and I have small hands. I like the scroll wheel but it will only work for a few months then stop working in one direction. (I am on my second one) I wish there was more choices for bluetooth mice, but most seem to be small and designed for notebooks. So I am stuck with this one. Matches my computer, but that is the best thing I can say about it. I love my old logitech USB mouse I have on my PC, but I don't want a dangle hanging out of my iMac, so I use this.

Excellent Mouse 2008-07-11
Really an amazing mouse. Great looking, works very well and is so convenient. I highly recommend.

Expensive junk 2008-05-19
I loved it at first, but:

1. The scroll wheel will simply die after 2 or 3 weeks and there is no easy way to fix it (unless you want to spend time to crack the case open, take the guts apart, clean up the wheel and put it back together.)
2. For some reason, my Mac lost the connection regularly (I used it with my MacBook Pro.)
3. The shape is probably the worst design you can think of if you use a mouse every day (my wrist started hurting a lot.) Beware the infamous carpal tunnel syndrome.
4. The right click doesn't work and I had to use CTRL+click to get the right click.
5. It's expensive for what it is.

I am now using a cheap wired Microsoft mouse and I am still looking for a decent ergonomic mouse to use with my Mac.

In my opinion, this is the worst item Apple ever designed. Save your money and go buy a Logitech or a Microsoft mouse to use with your Mac.

love it 2008-04-30
This mouse was expensive, I'll concede. But I'd spend it again because I love this mouse. Works infinitely better than any other wireless mouse I've used and the shortcut features (scroll button, side buttons) are great.

scroll wheel is not durable, but otherwise a nice mouse 2008-04-26
I'm unfortunately on my 3rd wireless Mighty Mouse in under 2 years. The problem with the first two was the scroll wheel stopped working. Both had the same issue - it would stop scrolling in one direction, then shortly after it would stop scrolling in both directions. Luckily I did get the extended warranty with my iMac so the replacements have been free.

Otherwise the mouse is really nice, and I like the double side button feature so you can pull up all open windows and choose the one you want to be active.

The wireless work great, so that's another positive.
