Editorial Review
Are you ready to go camping this summer and are you tired of reaching for your flashlight only to find that the batteries are dead? The Kaito Dynamo/Crank flashlight is the answer to your problem! It features 3 super bright Nichia white LEDs, so it's about 10 times brighter than the hand shake type or squeeze type flashlight you will find elsewhere. Better yet, you never need to replace batteries or bulbs, its patentedalternator can generate 600 mAH compared with 30-50 mAH a handshake type or 60-80 mAH by a squeeze type, which means it's 10 times more efficient when it comes to charging the internal battery. You can choose either 1 LED or 3 LEDs by pressing the on/off button.the flashlight can last 30 minutes if cranked for 1 minute. The life time of these LED bulbs are rated at 100,000 hours. This LED flashlight is also waterproof so it's perfect for outdoors use, simply keep it in you car,RV, boats and your emergency kit. So stop wasting money on batteries and bulbs and get the last flashlight you'll ever need!

Utility value 2005-12-06
This item has great utility value, when you discover that the cells in your torch are dead (due to your own neglect, might I add - has happened to me a couple of times).

Cranking it does provide usable light for some time, but the initial intensity does not last long. Apart from a magnet cover (the magnet holding the crank handle in place while at rest) breaking off, the unit feels fairly solid. Claimed to be waterproof, but I have not tested it (and won't!).

Unfortunately, the unit is rather bulky, and one of the LEDs is already looking a lot dimmer than the others. Most importantly though, the light intensity is NOT GOOD, even when the threee LEDs are on. This is not acceptable.

So is it worth buying?

For it's utility value, yes. Not for anything else, such as compactness/ illumination.
