Hard to get satisfactory customer help

So far the DVD player is working fine and the attachment to seat is great.Have only used it on two long car trips. Wanted to get a battery for it so she could watch it out of the car but am really having a difficult time doing so. They say it's available but have had no luck getting them to tell me how to get one. Customer service for this item has been less than satisfactory and I would never buy another nextar product.

Thought it was great. As discussed by other reviewers, the mounting is awesome. Can't believe it just stopped working. Will try to exchange it and see what happens.
Also, it does not come with a battery. That is extra $$$. We thought that was a little weird.

LOVE IT! We mainly purchased it because of how it can mount to the back of our seat. It is extremely easy to mount and to take out. We take it out quite often due to the cold weather. I love how it mounts it's very sturdy and both kids can watch a show and there is no bumping or having it move around. It has excellent sound quality! Very, very pleased.
Bought two- both broke

We were so excited with this product at first. The car headmount is great and the product was cheap. Well, after using it for one car trip it stopped working. Thinking it was just a random problem, we exchanged it for another one.
Well, the same thing happened. We played it for one long car ride, and then when we went to use it again, it wouldn't read the disk. Maybe it wasn't designed for long use (we had played it for about 4 hours straight each time)?
Regardless, I think you get what you pay for. It's cheap and from a no name company. Nextar? Who is that? If I were you, I would buy something from a more reputable and proven to be reliable company. Good DVD players really only cost about $50 more.
If you do buy this, buy it from a retail store so you don't go through the hassles of online returns...
Great Idea...Poor Execution 2006-12-10
The steel mounting bracket alone sold us on this DVD player. It is FAR superior to the nylon-strap method that every other portable unit seems to be employing. As a player...it's poor to fair in quality. Ours would occasionally black out while playing...the movie was still playing but the LCD display would go black. Now if you're like us, the only reason to have a TV in the car is to entertain the little ones. The black out problem just seemed to irritate them more than not having anything to watch at all. They would get into the movie and every 15 minutes we would hear screaming from our 2 year old because her movie was not visible.
PROS:
1) Mounting bracket is the best one I've seen. Very secure, no jiggling, adjustible, pretty easy to remove.
CONS:
1) Not a great quality player
2) Does not provide 2 screen viewing from one player (or if it did, Nextar's tech support and an entire team from Best Buy was unable to figure it out).
3) If you get 2...like we did (one for each kid...see Con Number 2), the remote controls both units so you have to use the in screen menu.
Overall, I'd say
Get it IF you:
* have 1 kid or only want one display and don't mind a medicocre player
Don't Get it IF you:
* want the ability to view 2 screens from the same player
* like me think the other companies should pull their heads out and make a similar mounting device.
We eventually returned ours for the blackout problem.

When I first saw this item, I thought it was the perfect dvd player for the car.It worked perfectly for over a year,no problems at all. Then all of a sudden it started to lock-up or freeze the screen. My son would give it a little tap to get it going again. Now it will not work when it is cold outside. I still use it when I travel, the accessories let me use it through the hotel tv. I purchased another one and have not had any problems so far after about six months.I still think for the price it is a great deal.
Buy something else! 2007-12-20
I purchased this DVD player to keep my toddler entertained during a long car trip. It was quirky right from the beginning. A few (brand new) DVDs would not play at all on this device. Some other DVDs would play but would cut in and out during playback. I also found it difficult to get back to the main menu at times. I had to pull the car over repeatedly so that I could climb into the back seat to troubleshoot this player. This made our long car trip take much longer!
1/2 Star!! 2007-06-29
Do NOT buy this!! We bought our first one Jan. '07. After having it for less than one month, it stopped working. We returned it and got a new one in Feb. It is now June and again, it just stopped working for no reason. I was given a 800 Nextar customer service # that I will try since this is supposedly under warranty (1yr). I have paid less for DVD players that are 5 or more years old and still working. What a huge disappointment.
average player, excellent mount

The player doesn't strike me as any different from other low-cost players, but the headrest mount is brilliant. The connector to the cigarette lighter DC supply fell apart, though I am not positive whether it did that on it's own or whether little fingers took it apart.
Buyer Beware 2007-04-01
We are currently on our second unit and both have stopped working for no apparent reason. The seat mount is well designed, however, the DVD player is clearly garbage and the unit should not be purchased. Reading other reviews, it is apparent that there is an inherent problem with these devices.
