Not as good as I hoped
2007-09-30
I've been a professional level gamer for many years, this was the only surface I havent tried tried. The noise it made when you move your mouse along with how easily it gets dirty wasnt worth the use for me. Id recomend this for players who play quake or pain killer. But if you want a steady mousepad with precision id go with the steel pad 5L. That was my old pad and the one i went back to now after 2 weeks of trying to make it work. Not bad for accuracy though, just not as good imo.
Good, but has compatiblity issues.

The icemat is a very nice surface, it's smooth, solid, good looking, easy to clean and long lasting. It's nice and thin, so it has a low profile (making the pad a little more comfortable), however over very long periods of time it can begin to hurt your wrist. The rubber pegs on the bottom of the pad do a very good job keeping it static on a desk; not once have I had the pad move accidentally. As a gamer, this is probably the best thing you can get due to the fact that it won't wear out or bend. If you use something like the func surface 1030 then in a short period of time you'll need to start adjusting to the rapidly changing mouse surface. In other words, it's good to have something that you know will always react the same given a certain movement (this is one reason why good gamers always turn off mouse acceleration; it creates unpredictable results). However, the major flaw of the surface, which also happens to be its major advantage, is that it's glass. Many mice don't work with the surface and you might not realize it right away. The easiest way to tell is to move the mouse very rapidly from one side of the surface to the other, incompatible mice will just freeze and make some erratic movement (like my MS laser mouse 6000). From what I hear, the new blue logitech g5 with upgraded firmware works perfectly on this surface, and given that my laser mouse 6000 is fairly old, that's probably what I'll be getting next. Anyways, the reason the icemat got a 4 is because of these compatibility issues with mice, I think the easiest thing for icemat to do would be to create a list of mice that are 100% compatible with the surface, it's the least they could do given the amount of money being spent of these things.
Pretty Decent

I received this mouse pad and at 1st I was skeptical.
Pros:
The rubber feet on the bottom of the pad are awesome, this thing goes nowhere. The texture is -just- right. Looks like they took the time to choose the perfect texture, which is awesome.
The logo is inside the glass on the back panel, which means it will not be removed by wear.
It's big, really big. More than enough room. Personally, the extra real estate on this thing is useless for me, since I am a sniper and I use very - VERY, low sensitivity. But this is still a good thing, if ever I want to be infantry, which obviously requires a higher sense, and hence, a bigger mouse area.
The pad is not too slippery or too rough, but just -perfect-. You have to try it to believe it, thats the only way I describe it. It's texture could be used by anyone, really. Either sniper or infantry.
This thing will not wear out. I am upgrading from a Ratpadz XT, which was good until it wore out. The ratpad lost it's texture, and began to shave/chafe. Since this is glass, not plastic, I don't think it will really ever wear out, which for any gamer means a great investment. I don't want to have to re-adjust to a new mousepad every 6 months!
Cons.
A bit pricey.
It does get dirty and dusty, and expect to be cleaning it at least once a week. (Though not a huge issue for me. I just keep a bottle of Clorox Disinfecting wipes by my desk.)
If it is dirty or dusty, you will get the finger nails on a chalkboard feeling.
The mouse feet are pretty much useless for the G5, unless you wanna remove the stock feet, which already are great.
Bottom Line:
This mouse pad is truly a great investment for the serious gamer. For an average user I must say look elsewhere, since this is really designed with the Pro gamer in mind. A bit pricey, and a dust magnet, but by far the best mouse pad I have ever used.
It will remain on my desk for a long, long time.
Well worth the $$

This mat is well worth the money. Before I was using a ratpadz which ended up wearing out leading to me using my desk. The icemat is nice and big and gives great accuracy for online gaming. Using the plastic feet that are included it really is surprisingly slick and accurate. Although like someone above me said, without them I did notice more of a screeching sound from the worn out feet on my mouse.
Icemat 2nd Edition

If you want consistency and accuracy, get this item. There is no other product that can give you this. I've tried quite a few mouse pads already... Steelpad 5L, Razer Mantis (Control and Speed), but none of them gives consistendy and accuracy like the Icemat does. The only downside is that the mouse is too small to play FPS. My mouse is set to low sensitivity that I'll have to move my mouse to do a 360 degree turn. And that pretty much takes more than 3/4 of the mouse pad.
Best mouse "pad" yet...

IceMat 2nd Edition is the follow-up to IceMat's original. The IceMat 2nd Edition is bigger than the original making it ideal for users who favour low sensitivity mousesettings. Made of glass, the IceMat 2nd Edition will never bend or loose shape while remains cool and measuring at 250 x 300 mm or 10 x 12 inches. Six rubber feets ensures solid and steady use.

An "OUTSTANDING" product. I have purchased and used almost every mouse pad on the market. The Ice Mat along with the "tape for your mouse feet, gives this conbination , the slickest and most lasting product on the market today. Take it from a 25-40 hour a week gamer, Ice Mat..."You've Got To Have One Of These"
Awesome Mouse Pad.

If you're having second thoughts about purchasing this pad then don't. I bought mine with the Razer Copperhead and haven't had it skip or jump once during play time. I would recommend this mouse pad to any one. Buy it!
Best mousepad yet

At first i was skeptical about a mousepad costing this much, but i work in the video game development industry, and a bunch of guys i work with suggested it. It stays clean, the mouse moves smoothly over it, its nice and large, has pads on the four corners, and looks sleek. Definately worth the 5 stars.
Love It!

Have been using my Icemat for more than a year and it is wonderful. Effortless and my mouse glides pefectly. Have found that after using my mouse for several hours my hand is not cramped.....what a relief! The Icemat stays put and no need to stop and adjust the position as needed with conventional mouse pads. Yes, you do need to give the Icemat a quick cleaning to avoid the dreaded "chalkboard" noise. A spray or two of the famous blue window cleaner and you're ready to roll. I clean mine when needed and can go several days between cleanings. My son has an Icemat also and he loves it for gaming and everyday use..........he's a dedicated computer enthusiast and hard to please! Will be giving Icemats as gifts to computer friends and family. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
