Great until it stops working

I've owned 2 of these now, but won't be buying any more. The battery only lasted a few months in the first one, making it useless as a UPS and just a very expensive way to plug several devices into one electrical outlet. The second one (another brand-new unit) didn't fare much better. Unless you are willing to buy a new unit every 6-12 months I'd avoid this one.
The manufacturer wants more for a replacement battery than the whole unit cost, so that's not a good option.

Not sure how anyone in today's world can be without a UPS for their computers - APC is very reliable.
It's $40... It does what a $40 ups should.

We ended up buying almost 30 of these for our office and I got them set up last weekend. We decided to leave a couple computers unprotected because they aren't in the office much...
Anyhow. We lost power last night, and one of the systems that was left without one of these had its hard drive fail. It would not boot or let me re-install windows on it to repair the installation..> Luckily I was able to back up all of the files though and am currently restoring them to another ahrd drive to get the computer back up and running.
The time i'm spending on this computer today and then having to send its hard drive in for RMA is going to end up being close to double the cost of these units.
If you have higher wattage you're going to have to spend the extra money to get a more powerful unit but this will work great for single pcs or electronics.
** just s sub note. I placed my order for 28 of these and didn't expect them to even ship for another week... got them the next day for FREE!
Fire hazard

APC has several outlets but these are prone to a multi-outlet overload. My unit smoked without the 40 A fuse blowing and was traced to a faulty transistor that overheated and melted the plastic casing adjacent its heat sink. My lesson: use the highest VA unit at least 2X your maximum expected current requirement.

Ive always used APC surgeprotecters/battery back ups, but i needed to replace 2 of the entry level ones I had so I ordered this considering to replace the battery for each of the previous models would have cost me more than the newer/better/more powerful one here.
Great little UPS 2008-07-25
This is a great little ups. I have my TV, answering machine and Tivo unit on it. While I don't know how long it will run the TV it does keep my Tivo from swallowing it's own tail, which alone is well worth the small price.
Continuing twelve years of using APC UPS 2008-05-27
My first unit of APC UPS was in service six years until a new battery was required. I ordered and installed the battery. The unit served until this year when the battery was depleated. I decided to buy a new unit and use the old UPS as a surge protector on our home entetertainment equipment. The new unit has greatly improved software which protects me better than ever ...
Two years doesn't seem long enough

I had one for about two years. After a power outage of about 90 minutes, it ran down, lasting about 40 minutes, powering only my cable modem and router. A few weeks later, I could hear the relay inside clicking on and off, over and over. I don't know if that's bad, but it certainly can't be good when there is no brown-out condition. Had to take it out of service.
I suppose it worked well enough for two years, but I just figured it would last longer for what was, at the time, fifty bucks.

APC Backup UPS - among the best 2008-05-08
This low end unit exceeded my expectations as to its features, especially the number of outlets available and the wide spacing between them to allow room for power supply bricks. It performs well and at the discounted cost I paid is close to the cost of just a surge protector alone. Item arrived on time within a couple of days.
