Here's the Deal....

Ok, so for what it's worth, this is my theory on this case. I read many of the reviews before purchasing this product and got many mixed reviews. I got my case and it works great. The Z22 fits perfectly inside, it's super easy to get it in and out, and most of all it's super easy to open. You don't even need a posable thumb to get this thing open. I really don't understand why some reviewers said it was nearly impossible to get open. But here's what I think...
This case is not "expensive" by any means and its built for the price. It does its job no doubt (protecting the Z22- don't worry if the case will get scratched... it will... that's its job) but it does seem a little cheap. I fully expect the hinges to go at some point in time (they are plastic); however, the people who say they break very easily, obviously have a minor issue of aggressively opening and closing the case.
Now, about this opening issue... I believe that this product is made very cheap. They are probably profiting somewhere in the 500% range. Which explains the drastic differences in the reviewers. Some cases might go through the machine just a bit smaller than others (could be different molds, the temperature that day of molding, or the rate at which they were cooled). So some cases may be more difficult than others to open.
Overall, its super easy to open, and if my theory is true and you get a case that is "hard" to open. Trust me, it's not hard in the least bit. It is a good design (it won't come open when you don't want it to- mine never has), I just think how it is processed may be flawed. But if you are looking for a case to fully protect your Z22 and look cool at the same time... this is defiantly it!
Not worth the money

First off, the packaging and write up for this product give you the impression you can operate it with the case on. Other than charging it and removing the stylus, you can't. You need to flip the case open to use the functions.
It does a decent job of protecting the palm from scratches and dings, but the hinges are flimsy and the cover isn't very strong so if you drop it, all bets are off.
What gets me the most is that this piece of plastic retails for $19. It probably costs 50 cents to produce. It screamed ripoff from the moment I opened it.
Not good if you use your palm a lot

I bought one of these to protect my Palm however I use my z22 for booking appointments and I literally struggled with getting this thing opened and it was a nuisance every time- with a customer on the phone waiting for me to get the stupid thing open. I returned it.
Simple, cheap, and tough.

I bought this case two years ago when I purchased my Palm Z22 because it was going to live in my pocket (with my keys) and would be used in a construction environment.
It has worked very well. The cover flips up so that the PDA is easily usable for both right and left-handed people, the stylus, USB port, and reset button are accessible, and it is tough. The PDA has been dropped several times onto concrete floors with no damage to the device or the case. The case is scratched up but that's the point: the PDA isn't.
I'm going to buy a new case because after several thousand openings one of the cover hinge pins has worn away. There are more stylish cases available, but I doubt there are better ones.
Great little case!

My mom and I both have these cases for our Z22's. It's nice because it protects your palm from being turned on or scratched in your purse, but it's not bulky. I have a leather zip case from Franklin Covey that I bought with my palm that is just collecting dust--it's too big and bulky. This case is simple and serves its purpose well!

Good cheap easy protection

This is a great product for keeping your Palm from harm if you carry it in your pocket with anything hard like change, keys, etc. Its easy to open and use, really light, and keeps the scratches off the screen. And best of all, its pretty darn cheap so you can get a new one if you do manage to break it or scratch it up so bad you can't see through it anymore! Very good buy.
Confused...?
2008-04-22
I'm confused. Everyone says this product is so difficult to open/get into. I find mine almost too easy to get into. Is it broken, or did Palm redesign it based on customer complaints, or what? Pretty much all I do is lift the little latch at the bottom and it opens...so easy it almost feels unsafe. Can someone please clarify this? Did I get a dud?
Otherwise it fits well, doesn't add much thickness or weight, and keeps the palm in place even when you open the cover. So you can kind of use it while the case is on, just pull the stylus out, flip the cover up and go. Although, that might be just me because my cover seems suspiciously easy to open. Anyone have any thoughts?
A necessity, but lackluster

If you have a Z22 and don't want to mess it up (especially the screen), you need a case. This hard case does protect the handheld and still fits easily in my pocket.
But it didn't make me happy: keeping pens in the pocket quickly scratched the case and made it look ugly. In the same pocked with the same pens, the hard case for my Palm Vx looked good for years. (The 'air case' does look very cool the day you buy it.)
Opening and closing the case is not too difficult but is still more difficult than any other case I've ever owned.
In short, this is not a great product, but there don't seem to be reasonable alternatives. And it's expensive; my case cost about 25% what my Z22 cost. At that price I expect better.
