Editorial Review
This 2005 three-disc edition of George Lucas's Star Wars Trilogy is basically the same set as the 2004 edition minus the bonus fourth disc. That means you get the three original films--A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983)--in their brilliant-looking and -sounding DVD glory. That means you also get both the changes that were made for the 1997 special-edition versions as well as the revisions that were made for the films' DVD debut, including Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker) being added to a scene in Jedi, Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) replacing Clive Revill with slightly revised lines in Empire, and Temuera Morrison rerecording Boba Fett's minimal dialogue, plus some other small details.

The discs don't qualify as bare-bones because they do include the commentary tracks recorded by Lucas, Ben Burtt (sound design), Dennis Muren (visual effects), and Carrie Fisher (Leia), plus Irvin Kershner added for The Empire Strikes Back. But what you lose is the fourth disc's 150-minute documentary Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy, the three substantial featurettes ("The Characters of Star Wars," "The Birth of the Lightsaber," and "The Force Is with Them: The Legacy of Star Wars"), the Xbox sampler, the no-longer-exciting Episode III preview, and other odds and ends. Star Wars aficionados will certainly stick with the four-disc set, but casual fans might be satisfied with this lower-priced version. --David Horiuchi

Proof that George Lucas has gone senile... 2008-03-27
Why does everything need to be changed? Why are things being added to a trilogy that was perfect the way that it was? George Lucas is litterally smashing my childhood into a million pieces with his "Improved trilogy." As I was watchng this "new" trilogy, I was willing to make peace with all the little added bullcrap that he added until the end of Return of the Jedi...why? Why did he think it was a good idea to add hayden christianson as a replacement to the original anakin skywalker? Why George? Why?

Great price 2008-02-13
I bought this for my 8 yr old son birthday, and it was great! Great price, I got it in 2 days and we are both happy with our purchase. We don't care about a bonus disc.

BEST BUY 2008-02-08
I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. IT'S EVEN BETTER, WITH LARGE SCREEN TV AND SURROUND SOUND. FOR STAR WARS FANS, A MUST HAVE.

Super value and better than the original! I gave the first set, sight un seen, to my son for his B-day: he loved it also! Thank you! Jan

My kids love Star Wars 2008-07-05
Star Wars is not just for men who grew up in the 70's and 80's. My kids love it!

Star Wars Trilogy 2008-06-18
For anyone interested in sci-fi this is the series to own. Great scenery, action and story-line.

This was so much fun! 2008-06-13
It had been years since seeing this series on the equipment we had back then, an audio-cassette player. So, we played tapes. I sold the tapes several years ago to 1/2 Price Book Stores.

Because I am technologically challenged, I ordered the DVDs in full screen. Still, they were wonderful and my husband and I sat on the couch, enthralled at revisiting the series. Sound is just great, pictures clear.

I heartily recommend this series. Thanks for the memories.

I bought the wrong version 2008-05-05
I bought the wrong version of this movie :-(. I have not seen this and opened the package or the movie. I will try to sell this one. What I want is the the Widescreen version of Star Wars ;-D

I WANT THE ORIGINALS 2008-04-14
I love Star Wars but why oh why can't it be the originals? I bought this set a long time ago but didn't watch until now. I thought i had the original versions. It would be nice if there was a collection with just the originals so that fans can choose which one they want...or if they want both. Some of the new stuff looks cool. I am most disturbed by the ending of Return of The Jedi! That was just wrong to do the replacement! Just wrong! I guess i'll have to watch my originals on VHS for now.
