Buyer Beware
2008-06-09
If you want an item that won't last very long, this is the one for you. After using the m240 for just over a year, it completely froze up. It won't do anything except sit on the startup screen. I went online to see how to fix it and found out that many, many other people had the same problem and that there is no way to fix it. In some cases, people had only owned the m240 for a month or two before it froze, and then the same problem occurred with the replacement unit. I tried to contact SanDisk about the problem and they never responded. So I am out of luck, and out of an mp3 player. All I can say is, buyer beware.

The MP3 player itself is fine but it does not come with any instructions and the SanDisk website does not help either.

After owning an m240 for 2 years (mostly good) and using it for hours nearly everyday, I will be buying a new mp3 player. Not another m240.
I mostly listen to audiobooks and it usually worked nicely. (However, the lack of a bookmark function is aggravating with any looooong tracks.) The battery life is great and I carry spare recharged ones with me so that I don't have to wait until I get home to keep listening. And I've recorded many meetings that were pretty bad in sound quality but useful nonetheless.
There are tiny things that I would have changed: the shape (I didn't realize was it curved in the back), the size and scrolling of the display font, and the bookmarking (lack). And there is definitely some problem with the firmware that requires reformatting once or twice a year. (Not in the manual. Well, didn't really have a manual.) So ultimately, I have loved it, but it has recently become extremely shock-sensitive and it turns off with the slightest of bumps.
Thanks, little mp3 player, it's been good but you gotta go.
My 10-yr old loves this mp3 player!

I bought this mp3 player for my daughter for Christmas (who was then 9). She absolutely loves it. The player locked up one time, but once I took the battery out, put it back in, and turned it back on, it worked fine, and we haven't had any problems since. It's been 5 months, and it's still going strong. I would recommend this player. The only thing is when I ordered this back in November'07, I only paid about $30 (including shipping), so I don't know what's up with this current price of $99.
do not buy this staff, broken in less than 3 month

seldom use it, yet the LCD screen broken within 3 months. Called the customer service, the worst customer service I even met. I was asked to send a picture of broken MP3 to them. Sent 4 times they still can not get it. Decide to give up. Won't buy any sandisk product anymore.
An Mp3 Player For Everyone

The SanDisk (which you may recognize from their excellent line of flash-drives) Sansa m240 1-gig silver mp3 player is a great buy for those into electronics. While it can't hold as much music as many iPods, it's still good if your tired of burning CDs. It's also unique for having a stopwatch and microphone feature. In addition, it doesn't require iTunes in order to upload music, which is a surprisingly useful feature; This means no long sync times, no advertisements, and no need to install new software (not to mention, you DON'T lose information when you hook it up to a different computer, unlike the iPod). This means that the m240 is much more user friendly.
You won't beat the price and value of a SanDisk Sansa

You want to start enjoying the benefits of Mp3's, move your CD collection to digital files and enjoy the mobile music life.
While there is always the iPod for style, the SanDisk is for the rest of us who want ease of use and don't want to pay the iPod tax for design.
I have owned three of these and currently use mine at the gym and office.
Although they are durable they are not indestructible. I have cracked an LCD (still works fine) and one of the pushbuttons jammed a few years back.
At these prices, which continue to fall like a stone, it is truly not a big deal.
1GB is more than enough for most people.
Built in digital record capability is also a plus.
Highly recommended.
Cheers!
very durable

How many MP3 players are out there? I had millions to choose from so how do I narrow my search down. Lots of memory, this player has that I could listen to enough songs for a long time. Fast download time, this one has that also, I was able to download tracks off of my media player in lightning speed. Craftmanship and appearance, vastly less than I expected, its a piece of lightweight plastic less than the weight of a pencil. Probably cost 10 cents to make at most. If your ok with that this is a nice player at the price charged. Yet I'm used to the Samsung Yepp models which are a quite a bit heavier yet real light. This loaded songs faster than the yepp and is much cheaper. I'd say if you can't afford a better mp3 player this is right for you its only under 20 bucks. If you can afford a better one I'd go with a better quality product.
